I have been operated twice for nasal papilloma. Recently I had third surgery to remove inverted papilloma. I have been told that there are chances of recurrence Please advice the solution to avoid the recurrence.

Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Bangalore
Inverted papilloma is known for its recurrence. But if operated by a good endoscopic surgeon chances of recurrence are less. Try finding a good endoscopic skill base surgeon in your area.

Ear, nose&throat (ent) are interconnected & thinking in terms of recurrent infection, tonsilitis, adenoids swelling & chronic discharge from ears if you remove tonsils &adenoids which are septic, there are chances of getting better of ear infectionafter operation. Ear operation (tympanoplasty) after the age of 21yrs. You may try other modalities immunotherapy, certain herbal therapy. High protein diet & supplements etc. Can help.

Use regular medicine, don't put any thing in ear. Ear pain in cold is due to nasal blockage so use nasal drops, steam inhalation to relieve blockage which will take care of ear pain. Continue antibiotics for 14 days.

I am 59 years man and suffering from tinnitus from last 4 years. It comes and gone. Sometimes problem of vertigo raise due to tinnitus. At that time I am taking vertin od tablet. While please in tinnitus I am taking bilowas 2 time daily. But ringing come and go. When tinnitus come I am takingn bilowas tablet and naas. Suggest treatment or test.

MBBS, DGO (cal)
General Physician,
Possibly you are having meniere' s disease. Vertin od is helpful in acute vertigo attack. Bilowas has no proven benefit for tinnitus. Tinnitus is not a disease, but a condition that can result from a wide range of underlying causes. The most common cause is noise-induced hearing loss. Other causes include neurological damage (multiple sclerosis), ear infections, oxidative stress, emotional stress, foreign objects in the ear, nasal allergies that prevent (or induce) fluid drain, earwax build-up, and exposure to loud sounds. Withdrawal from benzodiazepines may cause tinnitus as well. Tinnitus may be an accompaniment of sensori-neural hearing loss or congenital hearing loss, or it may be observed as a side effect of certain medications like quinidine, chloroquine etc (ototoxic tinnitus). So my advice is, you please consult a good ent specialist of a hospital of repute and get the right treatment.

Hello, this tinnitus. U need to get your ear checked. Some times it can be because of ear wax or ear infection. Also weakness of ear nerves can lead to this. Consult your nearest ENT specialist for this.

My son 0f 4.5 yrs ages in his xray report of throat mentioned that Lobulated soft tissue density is seen in the posterior nasopharnyx, indenting the air column-adenoid hypertropy of grade 3. The ent doctor says operation of the adenoid is necessary. Hence i request you to let me know whether any alternative therapy is available to avoid surgery ?

He can be given a trial of a steroid nasal spray. However, if frequent colds, snoring, mouthbreathing or frequent awakening at night persist, it is advisable to undergo surgery.

Sir, I have tinnitus problem in ear. I have taken lot of treatment s but not relief. Kindly suggest any treatment.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Sir, I have tinnitus problem in ear. I have taken lot of treatment s but not relief. Kindly suggest any treatment.
Thank you for your query. 1. Almost all people at some point in their lives experience tinnitus. Tinnitus does not have a cure, however, it may be controlled. How severe is your tinnitus on a scale of 1 to 10? 2. Get your ears examined to rule out any ear wax which is one of the commonest causes of Tinnitus. Also rule out any perforation of the ear drum. Decreased hearing also makes one more aware of tinnitus. Get a PTA (Pure Tone Audiogram) done. If you have a hearing loss, amplification may help mask the tinnitus. You may also get your middle ear pressures checked (Impedance Audiometry or Tympanometry). 3. The exact cause of Tinnitus is unknown. However one of the the agreed pathologies is damage to or loss of to hair cells in the inner ear. The role of the brain in the perception of Tinnitus also exists. For example, some people have been relieved of Tinnitus after a cerebral stroke, while some continue to hear it even after the Cochlear (Hearing) Nerve is cut. 4. What is your age? What is your exposure to occupational noise and loud music / earphones / mobile phones? Exposure to loud noise is also a leading cause for tinnitus. 5. If your Tinnitus increases on clenching the teeth, it may require dental bite correction. 6. I have noticed patients who have increased Tinnitus when they are stressed, have fluctuations of blood pressure, low hemoglobin, low blood sugar levels and so on. 7. Cochlear Synaptic Tinnitus may be treated in up to 50% people with Caroverine infusion followed by capsules for two months. Other treatments such as transtympanic steroids, gingko biloba, multi-vitamins and anti-oxidants may also help in reducing Tinnitus. 8. Kindly let me know the results of your investigations. This will help in suggesting further treatment. 9. I must emphasize that in a vast majority of patients of tinnitus, the cause is never found. However there are further treatment options depending on the type of tinnitus. I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them. Regards.

How long does it take for an inner ear infection to get fully recovered. I have been feeling dizzy for the past one month now! I was on cinnarizine 15 mg twice a day for a week. Now my doc suggested stemetil 5mg which have been taking 3tabs daily for the past 3 days. No improvement yet. I am growing worried. Is this normal? does it take so long for an inner ear infection to get treated? do I need to see an ent specialist. Please advise.

MS - ENT(Gold Medalist), MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Delhi
Definitely u should consult an ent specialist. Its not necessarily inner ear infection, cause can be bppv benign paroxysmal positional vertigo that occurs due to dislodgment of some particles in the inner ear from one place to another and this can be corrected by a manouvre done by an ent specialist.

My nose producing so much sound. So that my family members become annoyed. Please help me.

MBBS, MS - ENT
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Ahmedabad
The sound is called snoring if it is produced during sleep. It can sometimes lead to serious problems apart from nuisance to your relatives. You must ask relatives to note if you stop breathing during snoring. Also if you wake up with dry mouth and tired feeling. If you sleep easily during daytime than you should undergo a test called sleep test or polysomnography. It will help to know wether you are suffering from a condition called sleep apnea or not. For snoring you should exercise regularly. Avoid smoking and alcohol if you have habits. Reduce weight to around 70 kg. Tongue and palate exercise are helpful. Try to sleep on side instead of back.

But I have been feeling dizzy ,light headed and fatigued all the time since last month. There is no feeling of nausea. Even consulted an ENT doctor for diagnosis ,but nothing came up. Also there is problem in digesting food and m passing gas after every meal. Should I get a blood test done for HCG or consult some other specialist?

Had sex in 1st week of august. Periods came right on time around 26th of august and were normal. Took a urine test on...
As you had your regular normal period, you can completely rule out pregnancy. The light headedness, uneasiness etc. Could be due to Hyperacidity. As you are passing gasses, it indicates amoebic infection, which need to be treated along with medicines for indigestion and hyperacidity which will set right your discomfort. Fatigue could also be due to stress you are having due to the thought of pregnancy. If it gives any comfort, get the hcg test done which will be confirmatory regarding pregnancy or otherwise, which will give you peace of mind and the acidity etc. Will come down if your stress levels are low. But you definetely to take medicines course for amoebiasis and stop eating outside food, if you are forced to take outside food, take only hot stuff and avoid junk food. All the best.
