•Eat a healthy, balanced diet and avoid eating strongly flavoured or spicy food. •Cut down on sugary food and drink, as it can increase the amount of bacteria in your mouth. •Reduce your alcohol consumption. •Stop smoking. •Cut down on coffee. •Drink plenty of water to help prevent your mouth becoming dry. •Chew sugar-free gum after eating, to stimulate the flow of saliva. This will help clean away any remaining food particles. •Don't use toothpaste to clean your dentures, as it can scratch the surface and cause stains. •Clean your dentures thoroughly using soap and lukewarm water, denture cream or a denture-cleaning tablet. •Use a separate toothbrush to clean your dentures. •Make sure you visit your dentist for regular check-ups. Having regular dental check-ups will ensure that any plaque is removed from your teeth, particularly in areas that are difficult to reach. •Your dentist can recommend the best way to clean your teeth and gums, and point out areas you might be missing. They can also identify any signs of gum disease and ensure early treatment. •Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. •If your bad breath is caused by a gastrointestinal problem, such as an H. Pylori infection or gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), you may be referred to a gastroenterologist. •Persistent bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth may be a warning sign of gum (periodontal) disease. Gum disease is caused by the buildup of plaque on teeth. •You may need deep cleaning & fill tooth cavities with artificial enamel filling. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash until then. Advance procedures can be done with laser too.

I got injury in my tongue with out any bite. Why it happened and what will happen if I neglect?

MBBS, MD - Medicine, Masters In Evidence Based Medicine
General Physician, Delhi
That totally depends on the magnitude of the injury. If it's minor then it will heal on its own, just take care of the hygiene part. If it's major, consult an ENT.

Taking Care Of Your Teeth!

Munching foods like apples, pears, carrots or celery after brushing can help in preventing discoloration as they trigger tooth-bathing saliva which helps in keeping the teeth whiter.

Kisi daant ke doctor ko dikha lijiye isse pahle ki samasya badh jaye. Ho sakta hai ki RCT ki jarurat ho jisse daant bhi bach jayega aur dard bhi khatam ho jayega. Der hone per daant nikalwane ki jarurat padti hai.

Hello lybrate-user. I do understand the reason of your worry but kindly do not panic. Jaw can be locked due to reasons like a abnormal click in the joint that opens and closes the mouth or even due to simple reasons like gum infection around the wisdom tooth. Incase you have taken an injection for any previous dental treatments then maybe a minor trauma on your jaw tissues, its advisable that you see a dentist asap. For further queries contact Do notia Dental Care.

I am a 32 years old professional. I have bad breath since last year. When I take medicines, there is no problem. Soon I stop the tablets, the problem appears again. Please help.

Advanced Aesthetics, BDS
Dentist, Mumbai
Hi, there are various reasons of bad breath, like impurities in blood, inefficient digestive system, dry mouth (lack of saliva production), gum disease, cavities, plaque and tartar formation around teeth and gums, kind of diet, improper brushing / cleaning of mouth etc. I would advise you to get a thorough physical and dental examination to rule out the cause of bad breath and to solve it permanently. Regards
