Hi Dr. I am taking novelon tablet. Is this tablet sideeffect of breast cancer. Breast cancer chances increase by taking this tablet somebody tell me about. Is this true. But my Dr. gave me this tablet 21 days course.

MBBS, MS - General Surgery
General Surgeon, Hyderabad
Novelon are contraceptive pills, it is known to cause breast tenderness or pain, abdominal pain, nausea, edema & head ache, at times skin rash, itching, sleeplessness etc. It contains low doses of female hormones, usage of this medicine inducing cancer breast is not known, however my suggestion is to look for alternative contraceptive methods like iucd's etc which your gynecologist can suggest.

Laser Hair Removal

MBBS, MD - Dermatology, venereology & Leprology
Dermatologist, Kota
Laser Hair Removal

Human beings are considered as the most evolved species on this planet. Though it is said that our ancestors were monkeys, very few of the habits are common between the both. In the process of evolution, civilization has always been a priority. One thing which is similar (though reduced a lot) between humans and monkeys is the hair growth over the body.

Excessive, unwanted hairs on the body (especially face) is a usual problem being faced by everyone. In this fast, competitive world, it brings a social barrier to our identity. This can affect one’s future to a varying extent. Nobody likes to compromise with the future.

There are only two ways to get rid of them:

  1. Temporary methods like Waxing, Threading, Shaving, plucking are associated with pain, thick regrowth of hairs, infections (due to poor hygiene) and life long repetition of the procedure. This costs a lot of precious money and time. These procedures are usually undertaken by Beauty Parlors.
  2. Permanent methods include Laser Hair Reduction. Laser targets the melanin pigment in the hair root, thereby destroying it completely.

Once the client is ready for the procedure, the area is cleaned and marked; the hairs to be treated are shaved. Ice pack can be used for sensitive skin. The probe is placed firmly on the skin and fired. Pricking sensation on the skin may be felt in few cases. Whole body procedure may take a couple of hours. Routine activities can be resumed once the procedure is finished. The next session may take place after a time period of 1 month to 5 years (depending on the sittings already completed).

This is considered the best treatment modality in the approach towards unwanted hairs. The total number of sessions required are few. The procedure is completely safe, effective and hygienic.

We, at SUDEH, always strive to give the best possible results with the most advanced technology and the most suited treatment as per the individual needs. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dermatologist.

Is wrecking balm effective on removing tattoo at home n how long will it take to remove .is tgat have any side effect .it is costing Rs 4300 in india. At amazon. please suggest.

MCh - Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, MS - General Surgery, MBBS
Cosmetic/Plastic Surgeon, Bathinda
Hi lybrate-user Tattoo's are permanent as the ink used for making them is impregnated slightly deep under the skin. No balms can help treat tattoos. The only proven therapy is Surgery or Laser. Lasers have a drawback that you need multiple sittings and it works on specific colours only, not on all. Also, lasers can cause burns, if not used properly. Surgery is the safest option for tattoo removal. Please consult a Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon for best results.

All About Tinea Corporis

MD - Dermatology , Venereology & Leprosy
Dermatologist, Bhubaneswar
All About Tinea Corporis

When skin is infected by a fungus, the resultant infection is called tinea corporis (ringworm). It is most common in athletes and children. The infection may appear on the scalp, beards, groin, in between the toes and other places.

Causes:

Tinea corporis can be caused by:

  1. Skin contact
  2. It is contagious, so if you use towels, bed linens and clothes of an infected person, you will get infected too.
  3. Touching a pet infected by tinea corporis.

Signs and Symptoms:

  1. The rash starts as a scant area of red, bumpy pimples and spots. Then the rash forms a ring, with raised, red borders and a clear middle. The border might look scaly.
  2. The rash may show up on face, legs, arms or other body areas which are exposed.
  3. The area feels itchy. It might also be flaky and dry. You might even experience hair loss in the infected area.

Diagnosis:

The skin in the area will be gently scraped off and the sample will be collected. Then, the sample will be viewed under a microscope. That will help discerning, which type of fungus is causing the infection.

Treatment:

The following treatment regime must be followed:

  1. The skin must be kept dry and clean.
  2. Fungal creams are best. Creams that contain miconazole, ketoconazole, clotrimazole or oxiconazole are excellent for fungal infections.
  3. Only apply the cream on clean skin. You can use it twice in a day. Bandaging the infected area is not recommended.
  4. To prevent the infection from spreading, wash your towels in warm water and use clean towels every time you bathe. Also, clean the bathroom and wear freshly washed clothes.
  5. If pets are infected, treat them as well.

The infection usually goes away under 4 weeks. The infection may branch out to the nails, groin, scalp and feet. Self-care is effective, but if symptoms persist, then do consult a specialist. Ringworms have certain complications, such as scratching the skin too much causes skin infections and other skin disorders, which may need further treatment.

I Have anal fissure since one and half months, and there is some liquid coming out whole day, but there is no blood, pain and burning sensation, please suggest me some medicine as I always feel wetness in my anus?

Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery, MS - General Surgery, MBBS, FICS
General Surgeon, Delhi
If there is no pain then it is not a fissure. As far as discharge is concerned. Have you bowels checked. Do stool examination, take some fibre at night, plenty of fruits and curds. You may also need anal toning exercises but have yourself examined by a surgeon once.

Mix a little honey in one tablespoon of coconut milk. Massage the affected area with it. Do this three or four times a day. Alternatively, you can simply rinse your mouth with fresh coconut milk or massage coconut oil on the affected area.

Dear sir/madam I have skin problem on my face have pimples, digs, and if I wash the face it will look smart but after few time it will be look black why please suggest me.

PG Hom, London, BHMS
Homeopath, Mumbai
Hi, pimples happen as a result of oily skin. When the sebum secretion of your skin increases, you tend to get pimples. Proper medication will help reduce the pimples and also the scars that you might have post the pimples. You face tends to look dark after some time of washing if because dust particles stick on the oily skin surface and make it look dull. You will need a special face wash which will make your skin less oily and therefore prevent looking dark. Please consult privately so that I can help you in a better way.

Hi, am 17 years old girl. Please tell me some effective home remedies for fairness skin.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
Everyone has a favourite face cream or treatment, but beautiful skin starts with nourishment from within. Older cells are constantly shed and replaced by younger ones and a steady supply of micronutrients is essential to support this rapid growth. Eat the correct balance of foods and you'll feed your skin the vital nutrients it needs to help it stay soft, glowing. Fair and blemish-free.------------------- eat your five-a-day--------------------- fruit and vegetables contain powerful antioxidants that help to protect skin from the cellular damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are caused by smoking, pollution and sunlight and can cause wrinkling and age spots. Eat a rainbow of colourful fruit and vegetables and aim for at least five portions a day. Betacarotene, found in pumpkin, carrots and sweet potatoes, and lutein, found in kale, papaya and spinach are potent antioxidants, important for normal skin cell development and healthy skin tone.---------------- vitamin c------------------ vitamin c is also a super antioxidant. It is needed for a strong immune system, radiant skin and helps blemishes heal properly. The best sources are blackcurrants, blueberries, broccoli, guava, kiwi fruits, oranges, papaya, strawberries and sweet potatoes. They all help to produce collagen that strengthens the capillaries that supply the skin.-------------------- cut out crash diets---------------- repeatedly losing and regaining weight can take its toll on your skin, causing sagging, wrinkles and stretch marks. Crash diets are often short in essential vitamins too. Over long periods of time this type of dieting will reflect on your skin.------------------ stock up on selenium------------------- selenium is a powerful antioxidant. It works alongside other antioxidants such as vitamins e and c and is essential for the immune system. Studies suggest that a selenium-rich diet can help to protect against skin cancer, sun damage and age spots. One way to boost your intake is to eat brazil nuts. Just four nuts will provide the recommended daily amount. Mix brazil nuts with other seeds rich in vitamin e as a snack or salad sprinkle. Other good sources are fish, shellfish, eggs, wheatgerm, tomatoes and broccoli.---------------- vitamin e-------------------- vitamin e protects skin from oxidative (cell) damage and supports healthy skin growth. Foods high in vitamin e include almonds, avocado, hazelnuts, pine nuts and sunflower and corn oils.-------- drink up-------------- skin needs moisture to stay flexible. Even mild dehydration will cause your skin to look dry, tired and slightly grey. Drink six to eight glasses of water a day - all fluids count towards your daily allowance, but water is the best. If you work in an office, keep a large bottle of water on your desk to remind you to drink. Herbal, caffeine-free teas are good too. Try to avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, both can age the skin.------------ lactic acid is a known remedy for natural skin lightening. This acid is the most gentle alpha hydroxy acids (ahas). Alpha hydroxy acids act as exfoliants by contributing in rapid shedding of dead skin cells on the surface. This leads to cell renewal which in turn removes dullness from your skin giving you a brightening effect. As a skin lightening agent, lactic acid helps bleach the hyperpigmented skin by suppressing the production of melanin. Therefore, using yogurt loaded with lactic acid, makes sense when it comes to skin lightening with natural remedies. Ways to use yogurt for skin lightening 1. Take some plain, unflavored and unsweetened, yogurt. Rub this gently on to your skin for a couple of minutes. Then leave the yogurt on your skin for another few minutes. Now wash off using lukewarm water. Repeat this daily. 2. Mix yogurt, lemon juice and oatmeal to get make a face mask. Apply this to your skin. Leave it there for 15-20 minutes before washing off with water. Add 1-2 tsp of honey to 1 tablespoon of yogurt. Apply this to your skin. Leave it for 10-15 minutes. Wash off with water. Repeat daily.
