Hi my mother has gas trouble and sometimes she gets pain in her stomach. She in general usually consume boiled food rather than spicy. She also does her routine body check up say every 6 months and the doctor whenever diagnose her they say that you are absolutely fine and you do not have any of the disease. She is 56 now and she neither has diabetes nor Blood pressure. Still for her satisfaction the doctor prescribes her some medicine so that she get the relief from her gas trouble and stomach pain. The doctor says that gas trouble is natural and need not to be bothered indeed. Due to this sometimes there does exist a swelling within the stomach and that might be causing a pain probably. Therefore I would request you to kindly advise me on the same so that my mother can get the relief from her gas trouble and also suggest me what type of intake say the food items, beverages etc she should have and how to maintain her diet so that her pain and gas trouble get relived successfully.

Dear Lybrate User, * To combat extra acid in your stomach baking soda is an effective and a commonly available antacid. The basic nature of soda neutralizes the excess hydrochloric acid in the stomach forming salt and water. Mix half teaspoon of baking soda in half a glass of water and drink the solution on an empty stomach. It will get you fast relief from gas and indigestion. **While suffering from gas and indigestion due to spicy or fatty food, having fennel seeds can help cure your problem. The oil contained in fennel seeds reduces nausea and controls flatulence. Dry, roast and grind fennel seeds to make a powder. Take half teaspoon of this powder twice a day along with water. You will see some results. *Buttermilk is a wonder remedy when it comes to treating indigestion and gas. It is easier to digest than milk and contains more lactic acid. Buttermilk is already recommended to keep yourself cool in harsh summers and its digestive benefits just give you another reason to drink up a glass of buttermilk

Ways To Deal With Anal Fissures!

Ways To Deal With Anal Fissures!

An anal fissure refers to a tiny tear occurring in the anus's lining. This cut may occur when you pass hard stools during bowel movement. The fissures can cause pain which may be severe. This condition is most commonly seen in children and infants, though it can affect people of all ages.

Symptoms of anal fissures

The common signs and symptoms of anal fissure include:

  • A visible cut or tear in the skin around anus
  • A small lump of skin present next to the tear
  • Sharp and stabbing pain in the anal area along with itching during bowel movement
  • Spots of blood visible on stools

What causes an anal fissure?

Other than chronic constipation and diarrhea other common causes of anal fissure are:

  • Crohn's disease
  • Straining during labor
  • Anal sphincter muscles that are overly tight

What are the probable ways of dealing with anal fissures?

A digital rectal exam can be performed to diagnose the anal fissure. Anal fissures usually don't require surgery and can be treated at home by:

  • Taking stool softeners to avoid cuts in the anus
  • Increasing the consumption of fibrous foods including raw fruits and vegetables
  • Taking warm baths which will help relax the anal muscles, relieve irritation and increase the flow of blood to the anorectal area
  • Applying ointments and pain relievers to the anus to reduce the discomfort and promote healing
  • If you are overweight, it is important that you make can effort to reduce the same

Botox injections may also prevent spasms in the anus by paralyzing the muscle temporarily. If anal fissures fail to respond to any of the treatments you have to undergo an anal sphincterotomy. This surgical procedure involves making a small dissection in the anal sphincter which helps to relax the muscle.

In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!
