Hi, I had a query for my husband he is 37 years old and suffering from CML from last 18 years earlier he was on Glivec 600 mg per day and now he is on tasigna 400 mg from last 2 months and tasigna is also not responding to his body. I had a query that is stem cell transplantation is a successful therapy for my husband's disease.

MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Nagpur
Dear lybrate-user I can understand that disease of your husband is becoming resistant to various TKIs (Imatinib and Nilotinib), it will be useful if you can provide type of resistant he had towards these medicines. Once we know type of resistance we can either switch to other medicine like Dasatinib or can suggest you stem cell transplant. In case of resistant disease allogenic transplant is choice of treatment. Donor could be sibling (need HLA typing and matching) or unrelated donor.

My niece has been detected with leukemia- 80% blast. I want to know if we can try alternative medical options. Thanks Ram.

Dear lybrate-user it's unfortunate that your niece is diagnosed with Leukemia. Please mention age of your niece and type of Leukemia. These days we have good outcome of childhood leukaemia specially of Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (b or t cell) if treated properly. These treatment protocol designed after many randomized trial. I'll not advice you to go for alternative therapy, my sincere advice to consult good oncologist/pediatric oncologist near by you.

Dear sir my brother in law is suffering with Pre BALL the treatment is going on in Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital Hyderabad, Dr. told suggest me the Best treatment is allow genic transplantation is best treatment, kindly told which is the best. thank you sir ,the 3rd chemo is going on.

Dear lybrate-user, Treatment of Acute Lymohoid Leukemia depend on few factors. Out of all these factors, MRD (Minimal residual disease) after completion of 1st phase chemotherapy (Induction phase), is most important deciding factor for further management. Other factors like cytogenetics, age of the patient, presenting WBCs are also used in risk stratification and planning of treatment. If his MRD was positive or he had ph+ve (cytogenetic finding) Acute lymphoblastic Leukemia he is a candidate for allogenic transplant. I think this will help you. Regards.
