How can we live without cavities?

A.C.C.I - Accredited and Certified Course in Implantology, MDS - Pediatric & Preventive Dentistry, BDS
Dentist,
Dear, Living without cavities requires the same amount of attention as we give our skin, face and hair. It is important to brush efficiently without putting too much pressure after breakfast and after dinner, have fibrous foodstuff and ensure that you visit your dentist every 6 months. If there is a slight senstivity or pain lasting more than 2 days - prepone the visit to him/her.

Excess saliva having saliva secretion is a normal body mechanism. There's nothing to worry about it. One good thing you should know about saliva that most people don't know is its a natural antibiotic produced in our body. It contains digestive juices also which hepls in a better digestion process. We usually consider saliva as a irritting thing when we get up in the morning and we spit it out with gargles. Instead of spitting it out we should swallow that saliva which in turn plays an important role in terms of digestion as well as a immunity booster. And having much saliva secretion also keeps our teeth clean which again keeps our mouth cavities free. So having much saliva secretion is a good thing rather than irritating. For bad odour: 2- scaling first of all undergo scaling (cleaning of teeth) by a dentist - use proper brushing technique. - brush twice a day which is most important (at night specifically just before sleep and avoid any food or liquid except water when you finish your brush at night) - after each meal (i. E breakfast, lunch, dinner and any time when you take snacks) rub your finger on all tooth surfaces inside and outside and than do forcefull gargles 2-3 times. Jay swaminarayan.

I am suffering from recurring mouth ulcer for over 4 years I am taking beplex forte tablet for 8 months then also I am having recurring mouth ulcer. What should I do .

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
If the mouth ulcer is causing a lot of pain, gently rub a small ice cube over the spot or rinse your mouth with ice-cold water. You could also chew on a clove bud (lavang) and direct the juice generated to the area where the ulcer is located. Clove buds are a great ingredient to cure sore throat too. To prevent the ulcerated area from getting infected, make it a point to rinse your mouth with a little salt water. Remember, this won’t make the ulcer disappear, but it can help reduce the pain. Honey is a natural humectant. It helps reduce scarring and hastens the process of new tissue growth. This, along with its anti-microbial effect ensures faster healing of the mouth ulcer. Chew a few leaves of tulsi along with some water about three to four times every day. This will help in getting rid of ulcers faster and also have a preventive action against their recurrence. Applying a little coconut oil directly onto the mouth ulcer or chewing some coconut (fresh or dry) helps reduce pain and inflammation and hence, ulcers heal faster. Mix some sugar to crushed khus-khus seeds and consume this mixture for instant relief from ulcers. You could apply a little ghee directly to the ulcerated area, or drink a glass of buttermilk two or three times every day. Mouth ulcers left untreated generally go away in a week or so; with these home remedies, you can expect faster relief. However, if you notice an ulcer in the mouth that is persistently present although it does not cause you any pain, do not neglect it or try to treat it with home remedies beyond a few days. Make it a point to see a doctor soon because often, a painless mouth ulcer is one of the earliest signs of oral cancer.

My toothbrush is very normal but some times my teeth is very cold then what is the solution? Please advise.
Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations to decide upon treatment. You may need deep cleaning along with desensitizing procedures and / or artificial enamel filling or root canal treatment. You may consult me in person too. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush.

Dentist,
Hi chewing food becomes difficult when the amount of saliva in the mouth has reduced. This could be due to medications or due to radiotherapy. She could use artificial saliva which keeps the mouth moist.

I am having mouth ulcers frequently and are painful at times and irritating other times. I am taking lactobasil plus ...
Ulcers occurred due to sharp edged tooth or some overhanging margin of a filling or crown. Mouth ulcer has so many causes. The most common associated cause is vit b12 deficiency, local trauma or apthous stomatitis. Local trauma includes rubbing on sharp edges, fillings, false teeth, dentures, orthodontic treatment eating rough foods like potato chips can cause ulcers thermal burns can happen after eating very hot foods or beverages in the mouth. Holding an strong concentrated medicine next to mucosa can cause ulcer a person undergoing radiotherapy develops ulcer recurrent apthous stomatitis is also associated with ulcers. Underlying cause is hematinic deficiency (folate, vitaminb, iron), stopping smoking, stress, mensturation, trauma, food allergies or hpersenstivity to sodiul lauryl sulphate found in toothpaste. Many infections are also associated with ulcers like chicken pox, herpetic stomatitis, anug, syphilis, tb many drugs can cause ulcers like alendronate (a bisphosphonate drug for osteoporosis, cytotoxic drugs, nsaids (pain killers), nicorandil for angina and propylthiouracil for hyperthyroidism. I have tried to elaborate as many causes as possible. The purpose is that" ulcer is not a disease but a symptom of may other disease, please try to find your problem, then the treatment can be started after that. We need to find the right cause before we can start over the treatment. For pain relief, you can apply a topical oral ulcer gel containing choline salicylate and lignocaine hcl. Aslo start warm saline rinses if the problem persist, you need to consult a dentist for more specific diagnosis and treatment would be tailored accordingly.
