What is the meaning of retinal holes? Is it risky? And laser treatment for this is risky?
Retinal holes and tears are small breaks in the retina. The retina is light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. Usually holes and tears do not mean you will have serious vision problems right away. However, retinal holes and tears may cause problems if they allow fluid to seep behind the retina. In either case, the fluid that has replaced the shrunken vitreous can then seep through the hole onto the macula, blurring and distorting central vision. Macular holes can also occur in other eye disorders, such as high myopia (nearsightedness), injury to the eye, retinal detachment, and, rarely, macular pucker

Dear lybrate user with the limited information provided it appears that you are suffering form indigestion issues. This is a common entity when we consume a high carbohydrate load and our intestines are not able to cater all of it, which is then converted to free compounds which later presents as flatulence and uneasiness. It is advisable if you can start exercising regularly along with intake of high fibre diet and liberal fluid intake. Hope this solves your query. Anything more then feel free to revert.

It's a probitic have healthy bacteria like lactobacillus for food pipe. Your curd also gives you same on a daily basis a healthy dose through food, you cannot go on taking sachets. It's given along with antibiotics which tend to destroy the healthy bacteria of food pipe but given for 10 days, do consult your doctor about duration of your treatment with these sachet, or give it up on your own and eat lots of curds which is harmless if made with toned milk. Curd and bananas diet helps cure chronic diseases of food pipe besides helping in weight loss.

If you want good health and a smooth sailing middle age then you have to focus on a healthy lifestyle. Choose healthy habits over bad habits. It requires a little bit of patience and persistent efforts till the good habits become routine for you. So eat healthy food (daily fruits and vegetables ). Prefer simple and freshly prepared homemade food. Avoid junk food, cold drinks, and stimulants including alcohol and tobacco. Drink warm water before every meal. Start Yoga and physical exercise like brisk walking for 30 mins everyday. Sleep on time and relax your mind by indulging in some hobby that makes you feel better. You can include Homeopathy anytime as it is safe and holistic in nature. You can contact me whenever you require Homeopathy.

Colorectal Surgery: How To Be Sure You Really Need it

MS - Surgery, MAMS, Senior Residency , MBBS, Fellow IAGES
Gastroenterologist, Delhi
Colorectal Surgery: How To Be Sure You Really Need it

Colorectal surgery is performed to repair damages that occur in the organs of the anus, rectum, and colon. The damage that takes place in these organs can be the result of problems with lower GI like diverticulitis (a condition wherein pouches known as diverticula in the colon wall become inflamed), cancer and inflammatory bowel disease (a group of intestinal disorders that bring about inflammation of the GI).

Who needs this surgery?

In general, colorectal surgery is an essential treatment option for ulcerative colitis, colorectal cancer, Crohn's disease (an inflammatory bowel disease that gives rise to inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract) as well as certain diverticulitis cases. In such cases, the intestinal tract undergoes major reconstruction.

There are also other bowel problems that may require surgery but not of a serious nature and these are anal fissures, hemorrhoids, bowel incontinence and rectal prolapse. Most of the surgical procedures will aid in repairing tears, get rid of blockages, or make tighter sphincter muscles (muscles that surround openings in the body).

Colorectal surgery is also performed in cases of pelvic floor disorders like rectocele (a condition in which the rectum bulges towards the vagina) and perineal hernia (a hernia that involves the pelvic floor).

At the same time, injury, ischemia or compromised blood supply and obstruction may require the performance of bowel surgery as well. Scar tissue and masses can form within the rectum, clogging the organ and preventing the normal discharge of feces from the body.

Problems like ulcerative colitis (an inflammatory bowel disease that leads to the development of ulcers in the colon as well as inflammation of the area) and diverticulitis can give rise to perforations in the rectum. Surgery is suggested in instances when drugs fail to treat the problem of ulcerative colitis.

Likewise, in the case of recurrent instances of perforations or complications in diverticulitis, surgery may be required to remove the portion of the colon affected.

'Consult'.

My father-in-law (75) is having a lot of gas in the stomach. Could you please suggest some ayurvedic/homeopathic cure?
Hello, Thanks for your query. Try an over-the-counter medicine containing simethicone, which helps to break down gas bubbles. You can try a process of elimination by substituting a gassy food for a non-gassy one, and see which one is giving you the most trouble. A few basic substitutions: • Rice milk for cow’s milk • Bananas, blueberries and melon for apples, peaches and plums • Gluten-free and spelt cereals and bread for wheat and rye products • Bamboo shoots, bok choy, carrot, celery, corn, eggplant, green beans, lettuce, chives, parsnip, pumpkin, and tomato for artichokes, asparagus, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cabbage, okra, onions, and peas. I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care.

Hello constipation may also happen because of some problems in the absorption of the nutrients and in the proper formation of the stools. You will have to undergo some tests to find put the reason behind your constipation problem. After coming to a definite conclusion, I will be able to prescribe you the best medicine for your condition.
