Is there any side effects if we change brand of Hypertension tablets with same molecular formulae.

MBBS, Dip.Cardiology, Fellowship in Clinical Cardiology(FICC), Fellowship in Echocardiology
Cardiologist, Ghaziabad
Is there any side effects if we change brand of Hypertension tablets with same molecular formulae.
No there are no side effects and you can change the brand of the same molecule of antihypertensive medication anytime. You need to understand about high blood pressure.  Normal range of blood pressure is between 90/60 to 140/90, anything above or below is is abnormal. Many factors can affect blood pressure, including: 1) The amount of water and salt you have in your body 2) The condition of your kidneys, nervous system, or blood vessels 3) Your hormone levels 4) your lifestyle - smoking, drinking, exercise  You are more likely to be told your blood pressure is too high as you get older. This is because your blood vessels become stiffer as you age. When that happens, your blood pressure goes up. High blood pressure increases your chance of having a stroke, heart attack, heart failure, kidney disease, or early death. DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. DASH lowers high blood pressure and improves levels of cholesterol. This reduces your risk of getting heart disease. The DASH Diet Emphasizes vegetables, fruits, and fat-free or low-fat dairy products. Includes whole grains, fish, poultry, beans, seeds, nuts, and vegetable oils. Limits sodium, sweets, sugary beverages, and red meats. Along with DASH, other lifestyle changes can help lower your blood pressure. They include staying at a healthy weight, exercising, and not smoking. My advice to you would be 1) Keep a BP daily record for at least one week 2) Basic tests should be one to rule out cardiac / kidney issues 3) unless any recent evaluation has been done I would advice these test ECG ECHO Lipid Profile TSH KFT  Renal doppler  Get back to me with a detailed history and  old / new records for a better individualized advice.

My mother has high blood pressure for years, more than 10 years and she has to take medicine[prescribed at the polyclinic] daily to control the pressure from increasing, thing is if she skip the medicine, the reading does goes up and sometimes she skip the medicine taking with intention as she strongly believe long period consumption of'western' medicine is detrimental to one's body organs. So she prefer non-medication method from hear-say basis, like consuming certain vegetables, is there truth in this non-medication approach? How do we manage hypertension? Is medication the only option? And is it true that with hypertension, getting work-up, angry, excited must be avoided at all means because this will lead to heart attack?

Does she wear spects for weak eye sight. Tv programmes claim to'cure' eyesight! does it ever happen? eye power keep fluctuating with age and in growing up kids, may be gets corrected but not in seniors. Tell her medicines for high bp, besides lowering the bp, also protect the heart. Vegetables and fruits are good but cannot lower bp once it has been recorded on a higher level - 120/80 is safe, 130/85 is borderline-no medicines, just reduce the salt, above 130/85 some safe medicines like beta blockers are given to reduce the risk of heart attack & stroke. Yes she has to keep her cool.

Stop smoking, stop taking stress of getting angry and do not take everything to heart. Eat a healthy food with less oils, more seasonal fruits and vegetables and be your own doctor to reduce stress.

Dear Mr Vinod....as human gets older the walls of blood vessels becomes less elastic and it becomes hardened..as a result it exerts more pressure on the blood flowing through the vessels.....another cause of increasing blood pressure may be atherosclerosis....atherosclerosis is caused by high cholesterol level in blood......Since your age is 56 years i would like to advise to walk for 1 hour daily.....you can try Homeopathic Mother Tincture RAWOULFIA SERP Q, 30 drops in water, thrice daily after meals......You should also check the lipid profile of your blood

I am 41 years old. Having blood sugar 160/260, bp 150/100, having lots of stress in office work and family life.
Hi there ~ first things first. You need your blood sugars under control, and this is a priority. You need to get yourself to a diabetologist and consult them to check if you need changes in your medications. I strongly believe that you do. Next off, you need to control your blood pressure and hypertension along with uncontrolled diabetes is the cause of many medical emergencies like stroke, heart attack, etc, stress is the result of or the causative factor in many cases for the medical conditions that you are experiencing. I believe that you may need to consult with a psychiatrist after your medical problems are solved to see if you need any medications or therapeutic measures like relaxation techniques and yoga pranayama dhyana meditation and mindfulness to overcome stress. Hope this helps. Take care and have a lovely day!

Your chronic problems are under control and doctor has suggested some eye drops for cataract which is developing and you do not want to get operated as you have no difficulty in seeing. Why do you worry about some cataract which is just developing but not giving you any visual problems? do get your eyes examined frequently for assessment of dm & bp.

High triglycerides and cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney.
