Mr. Lybrate-user, the various things you have mentioned are some what inter related but everything can not be predicted as you may be thinking. Various things can cause problem with heart. High cholesterol can cause blocks in the coronary artery which can lead to angina or later myocardial infarction (heart attack). High blood pressure puts extra work load on the heart. Diabetes does affect large blood vessels (coronary artery) and also aids dyslipidemia. Tests like echocardiogram and angiography do help in identifying possible causes leading to heart attacks.

Hello dear High triglycerides and cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Change life style .do meditation, yoga, Go walk daily, do any one physically activity daily i.e.play any game., Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take plenty of water in day time. And 1 glass of water before bed at night. use flax oil, omega-3 fatty meal or cap., take .green veg., whole grain. garlic,.cod liver oil. Take anti cholesterol medicines .

My husband is 28year old, just in hos tegular check up his bp was really high 96/145. He does night shifts occasionlly. He is 6 feet 2 inches in hieght,120kg wt. How can i manage his high blood pressure without medication?

Homeopath, Anand
You should remain cautious about BP of your husband. BP should be checked daily or next day that is the prime condition. After wards we can think about dietary salt restrictions. Not only salt restriction but less and liquid diet free from harmful cholesterol should be given. Correction of Vitamin B12 levels by injectables or tablet can also be helpful.

Hello Lybrate user according to Ayurveda breathing problems arises because of Kapha Dosha Vikriti Home Remedy- 1-Take ginger tea mixed with 2-3 crushed garlic cloves. 2-Massaging the chest with warm sesame oil mixed with salt helps to loosen the phlegm deposited in the chest, especially, when followed with steam inhalation. Treatement- 1-Take shwas kuthar ras twice a day. 2-pranacharya asthamin capsule 1-1 twice a day. 3-pranacharya shwas vikarasav 2-2 tsf twice a day. 4-put 1-1 drop of cow ghee in both nostrils at night time before sleep. 5-take hot water steam. Diet- avoid smoking. Alcohol consumption. Do pranayama early morning.

Dear user. I can understand. Quit smoking and consult a doctor. Tobacco is addictive. Cigarette also contains 4000+ carcinogenic chemicals other than nicotine. Smoking can affect your mouth, throat, lungs, heart, stomach and brain in many ways. Cancer is one among the potential diseases smoking can cause. The best method is to leave it and continue with your will power. There are other methods like Nicotine Replacement therapy and pharmacotherapy combined. Nicotine chewing gums too help as an alternative for cigarettes. But still you will need will power. You may consult a physician or deaddiction therapist or a rehabilitation facility for further advice. You can also opt for online deaddiction therapy. Take care.

Low Vitamin D Linked to Heart Risk
Low blood levels of vitamin D are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular problems such as heart attack and stroke.
The 5-year research with participants in the Framingham Heart Study was published in the journal Circulation. The study, which included 1,739 people, average age 59 years, found that those with the lowest levels of vitamin D had a 62 percent greater risk of a cardiovascular event than those with the next highest levels.
An hour or so of sunlight on the skin each week allows the skin to produce blood levels of about 30 nanograms of vitamin D per liter of blood, more than enough to prevent a deficiency such as rickets.
Food sources of vitamin D include fortified milk and oily fishes such as salmon.
Recommendations from the Institute of Medicine in the United States call for a daily intake of vitamin D ranging from 200 International Units (IU) for young people, to 400 IU for the middle-aged, to 600 IU for older people. But getting that amount from food and sunlight may not be easy. A glass of fortified milk contains only about 100 IU of vitamin D. The suggested recommendation is 1,000 - 2,000 IU.
The cardiovascular risk associated with low vitamin D levels was especially greater for people who also had high blood pressure. Their incidence of cardiovascular events was double that of people with higher blood levels of vitamin D.
