I have taken up a preventive test and few items are inbred, please help interpret the report Cardiac Risk Makers:- apolipoprotein -A1 (APO-A1)-97mg/DL apolipoprotein -B (APO-A1)-97mg/DL High Sensitivity C Reactive Protein (hs-CRP)- 8.81mg/L APO B/APO A1 Ratio: 1 Liver apart amino transferase (SGOT)-38.5U/l Alanine Transaminase (SGPT)-52.7U/l Please note I have diabetes 2 and its avg of 140 I am on no medication from past 1 year.

Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
Liver enzymes are normal, c reactive protein is high -it can be due to infection/inflammation anywhere in the body, need not be due to heart or only due to heart in absence of specific symptoms of other organs, apo-1 is normal it is a fat+protein combo in blood that is water soluble and keeps circulating in the blood, in a way it reflects the good cholesterol which should be at a higher level to prevent blockages in the blood vessels, apo-b is very high -means it is a precursor of bad cholesterol in the blood that is responsible for blockages and plaque formation. Your dm-2 is under control with medication. You have to bring down apo-b by cutting down bad fats like transfats, oily food, etc which I am sure you are doing to control your dm. By increasing good cholesterol precursors like apo-1 & other apos except b (remember b for bad) your chances of getting bad fats on higher levels will get reduced. Take water with a spoon of honey (allowed for dm) with juice of a lemon every morning on empty stomach -it does burn bad fats, eat a spoon of good fats like desighee/ butter + a katori of assorted nuts every day (allowed for dm) cut down extra carbs in place of good calories gained.

Sir my age is 34 and since from 10 months I have high bp more than normal and now I quit smoking since from 4 months and started walking up to 6 km since 8 month but still I am taking bp tablet amlokind at and its normal when I take tablets , if I left the tablet it will be high only . . Sir give me any suggestions to be normal bp with out taking tablet .

MBBS, DPM
Psychiatrist, Bangalore
Dear lybrate-user, blood pressure is one of the conditions that predispose you to heart attack or stroke. The other modifiable condition is smoking which you could quit. Healthy habit of walking you have started. Why don't you continue all - no smoking, walking, bp tablets to keep bp normal - forever to protect your heart and brain? if amlokind gives any unwanted effect, please discuss with your doctor. He will adjust the dose or change the tablets. Stopping smoking and walking are just bp treatment. Happy to know that your bp is normal with just one amlokind. Take care.

Dear doctor, I'm underweight, y age is 28 , weight- 48 kg, height- 169 cm. I underwent some medical tests. In this tests, my HDL cholesterol is 36 mg | dl and LDL cholesterol is 112 mg | dl . Because of anxiety, I'm losing my weight a lot. My question is whether anxiety cause many heart diseases? And which of those cholesterols will be reduced because of chronic anxiety and confusion? Is it very harmful to human health?

Chronic stress is associated with most chronic diseases. You have mentitled about your anxiety. I am not sure if you are doing any kind of exercise on a regular basis. Regular exercise will surely help you wit anxiety. If need be you may consult a counselor and learn few techniques to manage and overcome anxiety. This will enhance your quality of life. Also your hdl cholesterol which is a good cholesterol is relatively low. May be because you don't exercise regularly. You are quiet young. Start regular exercise Join gym or go for run or even sport like football or tennis badminton would be good. Exercise will help you wit anxiety. It will increase your good cholesterol. It will also increase your overall energy level. Which will help.you produce better result. Only good things will come out of it. Remember that our best friend and worst enemy is our own mind. If you keep worrying it will effect you adversely. And instead of worrying if you take positive actions yoh will have positive outcome. Hope this helps Wishing you very best

I am 39 years old. I smoke 10-15 cigarette everyday. I am with high blood pressure. I don't do any hard physical work. Please what should I do?

MD - Consultant Physician, MBBS

Chelation helps in detoxification due to heavy metals. It is used for heart problems also. There are other effective, safe and economical non-invasive, non-surgical options like Artery Clearance Therapy (ACT) / Chelation therapy and External Counter Pulsation (ECP/EECP) for patients unfit for heart bypass surgery or angioplasty stents, where these have failed, when there is recurrence after surgery or stents get blocked again and for patients who want to avoid surgery.

Open Heart Surgery - What Should You Expect?

MBBS, MD , DM Cardiology
Cardiologist, Bhopal
Open Heart Surgery - What Should You Expect?

One of the crucial types of surgery is the heart surgery, which is commonly known as the bypass. It is a type of surgery in which the chest is cut, and surgery is done on valves, muscles, and heart arteries. As per the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, it is one of the most common types of surgeries, which is performed on adults. During this surgery, the prime focus is to remove the blockage from the heart so that fresh blood can easily flow into the heart. No doubt that this process is critical, but it is easily true that after the surgery you have to take extra care of yourself.

Talking of which, here are certain things that you can expect after the surgery.

  1. Moved To ICU: The moment, the surgery is done, you will be moved to the Intensive Care Unit where the person’s health conditions will be monitored, vital signs will be checked, and medical professional will frequently visit to make sure that the patient is just doing fine. Once the surgery is over, you may not wake up quickly, but you will continue to breathe through the breathing tube. About food, of course, you will not be allowed to take solid food, but there is an intravenous (IV) needle will be put in a blood vessel in your chest and arm from which you will be given fluids.
  2. Recovery At Home: Once you are given the discharge, your focus should be to get recovered quickly. Recovery at home entirely depends on the heart problem for which the surgery was done. Of course, the doctor will give you necessary instructions with regards to healing incision, dealing with after effect is and understanding the signs of complications. Follow up the medicines and attend the appointments as advised to keep track of your health condition. You may face some after effects such as appetite loss, constipation and sleeping problem. If there is any complication, make sure you speak with a doctor about the same immediately.
  3. Ongoing Care Is Important Too: Once the surgery is over, as said, you will have to go for frequent checkup with your doctor. During these visits, your doctor will tell you to get blood, stress test and electrocardiogram done, which will assess the working condition of the heart. You might also be given few blood-thinning medicine and bring certain changes in lifestyle and medicine.

There are certain phases of recovery which will take time eventually. The first phase is the lengthy one that can last for around 6-8 weeks. Once you get a discharge from the hospital, you will be given instructions that you must follow with good care. This will pace up the healing process and make the process better.

1. Male boob is due to a medical condition called gynaecomastia which is some times seen in adolescent age group or young adults 2. It is due to elevated level of blood estrogen and decrease level of testosterone. 3. It is not serious and sometimes go away on its own otherwise has to be treated by medicine or surgery 4. It is due to excess accumulation of fat in the chest 5. Regular chest and arm exercise like dumbbell exercise and push up exercise will help reduce the gynaecomastia 6. Reduce intake of fatty food like red meat, cheese, butter, ghee, cream, whole milk etc 7. If no relief, consult surgeon for advice.

My age is 32. I have cholesterol patches around my eyes from last 3 years. I tried many things but of no use. What treatment should I take to remove these cholesterol patches?

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Faridabad
first you menage your high cholesterol by low fat diet, you can use soft face wash. Dark discoloration of the skin under the eye is mainly referred to as dark circles. It is also known as dark rings or shadows. Some of the main causes behind the formation of dark circles are heredity, aging, dry skin, prolonged crying, working for long hours in front of a computer, mental or physical stress, lack of sleep and an unhealthy diet. Both men and women of different age groups can have dark circles. Dark circles are not a serious skin problem, but they make people look tired, exhausted, unhealthy and older. You can easily get rid of unsightly shadows under your eyes using some easy home remedies. you can take vit. E cap. 1od ..
