You need to have diet plan based on your BMI & activities. Whatever we eat is metabolised by the body for the energy needed to do daily work and the excess is stored as fat. Abdomen is the first place to gain weight and last to disappear. In brief, Weight reduction can be achieved only by reducing the intake of food 1/3 of what you take now. And by appropriate exercise plans for each part like belly, thighs, legs / chest etc. To burn off fat. Some tips 1) Drink three or four cups of water whenever you feel hungry and just before eating food 2) Take boiled or raw vegetable like cucumber, carrot etc. As half of your diet. Then take 1/2 of your total diet as sprouted pulses / proteinaceous food like roti, cooked pulses and remaining with rice or other carbohydrates. Oil or ghee etc. Should be just bare minimum. And do aerobic exercises, running, jogging or at least walking briskly 3-5 KMs and swimming if possible, and in a gym if feasible. The most important is to burn off the energy intake by exercises. There is no short cut or medicines without exercise & dieting to take just as mush food as needed for your activities. The food we eat is utilised for our energy needs and the remaining will be stored as fat which leads to obesity. It is better to do some tests. People who lose weight slowly, about 1 to 2 pounds per week, are more successful at keeping the weight off. You'll also burn additional calories if you increase your physical activity.

Sir my age is 81 and for the past 2 months my two legs are swelling at the evening of the day and in the morning the swelling decreases. If you press the foot it is hard. And I am using amlongat 5mg for pressure. Please advise me what to do?

Dip. SICOT (Belgium), MNAMS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS
Orthopedist, Delhi
Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Swelling in legs is usually not caused by any orthopaedic disorder generally apart from injury etc. Since you have also been taking medicine for blood pressure, my advice for you is to get yourself checked by your physician as there are many causes for this swelling like cardiac causes, deranged lft, kft etc. Sometimes swelling is just postural, i. E when you stand and walk, swelling increases and it decreases while you lie down and elevate your legs. So get back to me once you are through with your physician consultation, I can suggest you some simple measures at home if there is no particular underlying abnormality. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Stop masturbation. The average time from vaginal penetration to ejaculation in the average man is 9 minutes. The definition of premature ejaculation is reaching orgasm within 1 minute or less after vaginal penetration (intercourse), or ejaculation that occurs too early for female partner satisfaction. This problem is common, occurring in 30% of adult men, and it is the most common form of male sexual dysfunction. It can be caused by erectile dysfunction, anxiety and nerve hypersensitivity and is, in general, quite treatable by homoepathic treatment. You can click on consult option for homoepathic treatment without side effects.

Dear Lybrate user. Don't panic. A woman's sexual desire naturally fluctuates over the years. Highs and lows commonly coincide with the beginning or end of a relationship or with major life changes, such as pregnancy, menopause or illness. Some antidepressants and anti-seizure medications also can cause low sex drive in women. You should get your sex hormones checked for their level and please bring the reports. Take care.

About vitamin d tell me the source of vitamin d.what is the problem due to lack of vitamin d.

About vitamin d tell me the source of vitamin d.what is the problem due to lack of vitamin d.
Hi, Vitamin-D is an important constituent in bone formation. Sunlight itself is an important source which converts cholesterol to vitamin-D in skin. Other sources include fish, fortified (milk, soy milk, juice, cheese), egg yolk. As vitamin-D is important in bone formation, its mild deficiency will lead to muscle pain, back pain, fatigue, delayed wound healing, bone loss. Severe deficiency leads to rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults where bone malformations occur. So, its better to take sufficient amount of vitamin-D in the form of food along with about 10 minutes exposure to sunlight per day. Intake of calcium rich foods should also be there for proper bone formation along with Vitamin-D intake.

Dear Sir, After seeing a diastolic bp of 85-95 over few months, I went to take a ecg as a precautionary. No pain or discomfort in chest. ECG results came as Normal Sinus rhythm v rate 50-99 but borderline t wave abnormalities. (T/QRS ratio < 1/20 or flat T) Rate 92, PR 134, QRSD 91, QT 354, QTc 438 P 75, QRS 58, T 3 12 Lead, standard placement Is it a problem? I'm 28/M (diagnosed with hypo thy, now in normal levels, bp 120/80)

MBBS, PGDCC
Cardiologist, Delhi
Hi, Welcome. Your ECG seems ok, but seeing the actual ECG is more important. As you said, your diastolic bp is 85-95, which is high for your age. So, monitor your bp regularly. I'll also advise you for certain tests - Kidney function test, thyroid profile, Lipid profile, Renal doppler & 2D Echo to rule out any possible causes of high bp. Come back if you need further help. Thanks.

How Lack of Sleep Impacts Your Health?

MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS
Internal Medicine Specialist, Mumbai
How Lack of Sleep Impacts Your Health?

Sleep is an activity where you do nothing, but rest. You relax your body and mind, you rest your bones and muscles and you rest your eyes after a long day of physical exertion. It is extremely necessary for you to get ample amount of sleep to stay healthy.

Otherwise there are various problems which you might have to face if you are lacking sleep:

  1. Elevates the risk of stroke: According to study, people who get less sleep are more prone to having strokes than those who get enough sleep. If you sleep for less than 6 hours every day, you multiply the risk of have a stroke four times than ordinary.
  2. Obesity: Lack of sleep can cause obesity. It usually forces you to take erratic food decisions, leading you to eat a lot of junk food. Less sleep administers certain hormonal changes which make you feel hungrier and believe that you haven’t eaten enough food. The production of the hormone ghrelin, which controls your hunger, increases due to less sleep. Hence, it may lead to obesity if you keep eating without keeping a check on what you eat.
  3. Increases the risk of diabetes: Sleep and the production of insulin are inversely related to each other. Among teenagers, the less you sleep; the more insulin resistant your body becomes. This means the body is not able to use the insulin effectively.
  4. Results in poor memory: Less sleep causes tiredness. When you are extremely tired, you are not able to focus on anything going on around you, you cannot concentrate on your work, and you get forgetful. In fact, consistent lack of sleep can even cause permanent loss of memory. This is because you are not being able to fully utilize the memory boosting ability of sleep. This eventually causes brain deterioration which results in permanent memory loss.
  5. Affects your heart: Lack of sleep can have an extremely negative impact on your heart. Less sleep also causes stress and strain to your body and mind. It results in an increased production of certain chemicals and hormones in the body which is harmful for your heart. According to a study in 2011, people who sleep less than 6 hours every day increase the risk of having heart problems by almost 48%.

It is not very healthy to sleep less as it can complicate your daily life activities. Sleep enough and stay healthy. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult the doctor and ask a free question.
