My husband suffering a high blood pressure problem please suggest me what I do for his health?

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)

My husband suffering a high blood pressure problem please suggest me what I do for his health?
Dear, *high blood pressure is a common disease in which blood flows through blood vessels (arteries) at higher than normal pressures. *chew 2-3 raw garlic cloves everyday, garlic slows down the pulse rate and smoothens the heart's rhythm. *nutrition, exercise, breathing exercises (pranayama), yoga, meditation, behavioral modification along with various herbs and minerals are prescribed. *ayurvedic diet for hypertension: avoid meat, eggs and salt, reduce protein intake, follow the following vegetarian diet: vegetables: garlic, lemon, parsley, fruits: indian gooseberry, grape fruuit, watermelon, dairy: milk, cottage cheese, clarified butter. Limit sodium in the diet. Cigarette smokers tend to have high blood pressure. Nicotine increases the resting heart rate and increases the release of the adrenaline correct diet and control weight. One important thing to do is lose any excess amount of body fat. One of the good reasons to be slim (lean) is to keep your blood pressure low, losing body fat will lower the pressure *life style: *regular exercise is one of the best ways to lower blood pressure. Exercise has to be of right kind. A good exercise programme, particularly endurance exercises such as jogging or athletics, will cause the peripheral resistance to decrease. Exercise helps to eliminate body fat, lower total cholesterol and raise hdl cholesterol that prevents fatty - cholesterol deposits. According to ayurveda exercise improves the body, depletes excess fats, brings lightness of the body. *yoga and breath therapy, *meditating and practicing breathing exercises regularly are essential to establishing a new relaxation response in place of the hypertensive reflex to stress.

My cholesterol level last 2 years continuously on 210-220 range. What should I do?

Certified Diabetes Educator, Registered Dietitian (RD), PGDD, Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (B.U.M.S), General Physician
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
My cholesterol level last 2 years continuously on 210-220 range. What should I do?
Too much cholesterol in the blood can lead to cardiovascular disease. What you eat has a direct impact on your cholesterol level. In fact, a diet rich in fiber and other cholesterol-lowering foods may help lower cholesterol as much as statin medication for some people. Working with a registered dietitian and doctor is the key to develop and maintain a successful health program to manage it. I will inform you on how to make diet, lifestyle changes, make you understand instructions for taking medication because it won't work if you don't take it as directed. Consult privately for a holistic dietary therapy to solve your problems.

Hello dear High triglycerides and cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Change life style .do meditation, yoga, Go walk daily, do any one physically activity daily i.e.play any game., Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take plenty of water in day time. And 1 glass of water before bed at night. use flax oil, omega-3 fatty meal or cap., take .green veg., whole grain. Garlic,. Cod liver oil. Take anti cholesterol medicines . for uric acid take tab. zyloric 100 mg once a day.

Renovascular Hypertension - What Is It?

MBBS, MS - General Surgery, Fellowship in Vascular Surgery, Ted Rogers Fellowship
Vascular Surgeon, Delhi
Renovascular Hypertension - What Is It?

Renovascular hypertension is also known as renal hypertension. This can be defined as a rise in blood pressure because of partial or complete blockage of the renal arteries. It may be caused by a blockage in only one artery or multiple arteries. This condition does not usually exhibit any symptoms unless it is a long-standing condition. Renovascular hypertension may be caused by a narrowing of one or both renal arteries or fibromuscular dysplasia. It can also be affected by kidney disease.

Without treatment, renal hypertension can affect a number of other organs. In extreme cases, it can even be fatal by causing kidney failure, heart attacks or a stroke. Hence, an early diagnosis and treatment is a must. Medication is usually the first form of treatment advised by a person. This takes the form of ACE inhibitors and angiotensin II receptor blockers. However, in some cases, taking both types of medication may still not be enough to reduce renal hypertension. In such cases, surgical procedures may be required. Surgery has longer lasting results and it helps control hypertension to a much higher degree as compared to medication. The results of a surgical procedure are also quicker.

The most common surgical procedures used to treat this condition include:

  1. Angioplasty: This is a minimally invasive procedure that does not always require hospitalization. The procedure involves threading a catheter through a large artery in the groin and taking it to the renal artery. The catheter is then used to inflate a balloon in the renal artery for a few minutes. This helps widen the artery and increase the blood flow rate.
  2. Stenting: This can be considered an extension of an angioplasty. Along with the balloon, a wire mesh stent is also expanded in the renal artery. Though the balloon is later deflated and removed the wire mesh is left in place. This helps keep the artery open and improves blood flow.
  3. Bypass Surgery: This procedure is an open abdominal procedure for which the patient is put under general anesthesia. A bypass surgery is usually considered only if an angioplasty and stenting are not viable forms of treatment. This procedure involves sewing a healthy blood vessel in place beside the renal artery and redirecting blood flow to this blood vessel. This blood vessel may be harvested as part of the aorta. Bypass surgery is the most effective form of treatment and has the longest lasting results. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Dear, there is nothing to worry at the moment. Minor change in bcr_abl does occur. By continuing the same medicine it should come to normal. I feel that the dose of medicine you are taking is on lower side. You can seek the advice from your treating doctor to increase it to 200 mg. Daily.
