Diapers can be used all the time. Rashes and skin infections only come when wet and dirty diapers are not changed frequently.

As narrated earlier, we should try to maintain proper hygienic condition while eating, drinking, mouth gargles etc. The container which we use for taking any food/water etc. Should be properly cleaned. Infection can be treated by proper antibiotics etc. But to avoid repeated infection, proper hygiene is tb maintained. As repeated infection lowers the immunity of body and invites to get infection again. This is a vicious circle which nedds to be taken care. Thus treatment is in the hands of parent for avoiding repeated infection. Doctor can only treat the infection once it is there.

How can I change the habit of breast feeding of my child of 3 yrs? She is not taking any other foods. please help.

Pediatrician, Mumbai
How can I change the habit of breast feeding of my child of 3 yrs? She is not taking any other foods. please help.
As long as she gets what she wants she is not even going to make an effort to try anything else. Besides, she has got addicted to breastfeeding. The only way out of this is to be firm and stop it altogether, no matter how much she pushes you. Offer solids at 4 hours intervals. Don't try feeding in between.

I have a girl baby who is 40 days old.Usually she is getting severe stomach pain and gas trouble Dr advised me to give her colicaid 2 to 5 drops according to the pain even though sometimes she is normal sometimes she is struggling a lot.Is it advisable to use gripe water for pain or can u give alternative medicine.

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
If baby is gaining weight about 500 gms per month & passing clear watery urine, your baby is absolutely fine. Just give him comfort, love & support. Be along with him during distress,i.e.Crying. We can not always stop a crying child, we can't know the cause every time. World over all babies cry for no reason, at some or other times. Colicaid may or may not help. Don't blame yourself for inability to stop cry. Things will settle in matter of few months. That is a part of life, we can't avoid. Being with the child supporting, comforting, showering love during distress is the only way. That is optimum & enough.

Your daughter who at 13 years age is overweight needs a proper diet, exercise and counseling. You can consult a dietician to start her on a proper diet along with walking in the morning and evening. She may need some supplements and protein powder so that she does not become giddy. As per her weight she needs around 3.5 liters of fluids which includes water, green coconut water, nimbu pani without sugar, green tea and soup. If she has this low carb, no sugar diet you will get good results. She also needs to learn yoga so that her menstrual cycle starts.

Today my 6 week old child was administered pentaxim vaccine's first dose but I have read that this vaccine is banned by Indian govt and its efficacy reduces in few years. It's mentioned that better to administer quadravac along with polio but they are not painless. Kindly suggest.

DCH, MBBS (MAMC)
Pediatrician, Delhi
Pentaxim is not banned by govt. Pentaxim is also a good vaccine, we prefer Pentaxim in those child where there is risk of complications because of quadravac.

I do not think if any medicine can be useful. Vitamin B complex and zinc may be tried for long time. However you may consult skin specilist.
