My daughter is 12-years-old and always fall sick. She has also deteriorated in her studies and is not able to concentrate. She gets tonsillitis, fever, morning sneeze and severe cold regularly. Blood tests which was done on Dec 5, 2015 showed that her eosinophil count is 6%, and all other reports were normal. Please advise me as to what best can be done to make her healthy and get rid of all these ailments. I am waiting for your reply.

MD - Pulmonary, DTCD
Pulmonologist, Faridabad
Eosinophils are in upper limit of normal. Can be allergic rhinitis. Get serum total ige done to r/o allergy. Avoid cold, dust, passive smoke, pollens, pollution, moulds, pets furs. Saline gargles and good diet. If ige on higher side consult a allergy specialist.

You have mentioned, he doesn't like but not what he likes. His wt is definitely very low to his age. If he is not suffering from any ailment, give him all home made well cocked nutritious rich in caloric value edibles, he likes. Don't thrust your like on him. If he doesn't like milk, give him milk made products like curd, kheer and alike. Add ghee in his diet.

On 5.10.16, we shifts with our baby just 8 months old child from our native village to New Delhi who was feeding cow and mother's milk there. Now we have changed to buffalo milk in Delhi. Today he start vomiting two or three times. Suggest us. Thanks n Regards.

What type of food is to be given for an 18 month old child to achieve WHO, Child Health Standard which is Height- 77.2-87.3, weight - 8.9-13.5 and head circumference 44.9-49.9. My 18 month's old child is having only height 76 cm, weight-8.8 kg and head circumference 41. 5 cm.

First of all, you have to understand every child is different. They grow upto their potential not upto WHO growth charts numbers. Any childs growth depends on nutrition as well as genetic and environmental factors. Your childs height seems reasonable but weight and HC are on the lower side. You need to make sure the childs nutrition is adequate by consulting a dietician, they can advice if any changes needed. Regarding HC being small, it could well be normal genetic but there are genetic disorders which can cause similar issues. Please consult for further evaluation and management.

Relax, nothing to worry. This is normal at this age. Instead concentrate on feeding, play with him and enjoy watching him grow.

Some children are late. But, before concluding anything you do her blood cbc, tft and inform me. Meanwhile you try to make her speak, (speech therapy by yourself) and I need her birth & development (like when she turned over and smiles, started telling baa baa) weight at birth and now head circumference and birth history (normal, caesarean and if baby kept in incubator, feed given now) to give a scientific advice. All details and you can remain in touch with me personally to be your private doctor if you wish!

Hello, Thanks for your query on Lybrate "As" per your clinical history is concerned please follow like this - 1)Do check his stool now and add following medications - a)[AB-CEF SYR ]-to control infection [8 mg/kg daily as a single dose] b)[CALPOL DPS oral drops] one ML every 8 hours for fever c)BIO-LYTE ORS powder for oral soln to prevent dehydration You can add [Glucon D]if he likes and continues to breastfeed Do follow preventive step like this - Wash your hands before and after preparing food. In addition, wash your hands after handling uncooked meat, using the toilet, changing diapers, sneezing, coughing and blowing your nose. Use hand sanitizer when washing isn't possible. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer when you can't get to a sink. Apply the hand sanitizer as you would hand lotion, making sure to completely cover the fronts and backs of both hands. Use a product that contains at least 60 percent alcohol. Hope that helps

Passage of urine depends on the amount of water consumed. If you are continuing breastfeeding nothing to worry.

Try offering one spoonful or two spoonfuls of the following: Pureed or mashed cooked vegetables, such as carrot, parsnip, or potato. Mashed or pureed fruits, such as banana, cooked apple, pear, or mango. Gluten-free cereal, such as baby rice, sago, maize, cornmeal, or millet, mixed with your baby's usual milk. You can also try other fruits, such as peaches and avocados, and vegetables, such as butternut squash, broccoli, and cauliflower. You could try starchy vegetables, too, such as sweet potato. See our article on first tastes for recipe ideas. Once your baby is eating these fruits and vegetables happily, you can move on to other foods from the main groups: bread, rice, potatoes, and pasta dairy foods meat, fish, eggs, and beans Introducing a range of foods and tastes at this stage may reduce the chances of your baby becoming a fussy eater later on. It's important to offer your baby savoury foods as well as sweet at this stage, so she learns to like a range of flavours. Read our article on which weaning foods to introduce when.
