Trichoepithelioma - Causes + Treatment

Trichoepithelioma - Causes + Treatment

Puberty brings hormonal changes which affect the body in a number of ways and the skin is one of the main affected organs. While acne is the more common issue, there are also other lesser known skin lesions, which can bother teenagers. The less common trichoepithelioma is one such disease.

In this health condition, multiple hair follicle tumors are seen on the face after attainment of puberty. These are benign, but not very common. They form small hair shafts, but do not develop into full fledged hair follicles. While the exact cause of these lesions is not identified, they are related to a syndrome called Brooke-Spielger Syndrome. There is also a genetic component where the CYLD gene is affected, and the proteins required for self-protection of the skin are missing. There is also a theory which states this condition to be an autosomal dominant condition. In such a scenario, multiple lesions are seen, and it is also the most common variant of the disease.

The lesions are small, less than 1 cm, isolated, firm, round, and shiny. Their color can vary from brown, to blue, yellow, or pink. The face is first affected, starting from the cheeks, and then slowly moving to the eyelids, and the nose. Multiple lesions are easier to diagnose, while individual lesions can be confused with basal cell carcinoma. The lesions grow very slowly and when multiple lesions are present, they can cause aesthetic concerns. There could be ulceration and recurrence in these patients. The genetically correlated ones have a higher incidence of aggressive behavior both in terms of severity of the lesions and the rate of recurrence.

Treatment: Though they are benign, aesthetic concerns may mandate treatment. The treatment is usually multipronged and includes the following genetic counseling, drug therapy (mostly topical creams and lotions), and minor invasive procedures.

  1. The best solution is to let them run their natural course, as they usually subside with age, both in terms of numbers and the severity of the lesions.
  2. Dermabrasion or carbon dioxide laser is useful in improving facial appearance too.
  3. In more severe cases, surgical removal may be done, which is partial and does not cover the entire depth of the lesion.
  4. However, in some cases, if there is a concern for malignancy, the lesions are completely excised (excision biopsy) and then sent for biopsy to confirm their benign nature.

Trichoepithelioma is also known by the name hereditary multiple benign cystic epithelioma, which explains the nature of the disease quite well. Other than cosmetic concerns, more so because if affects females, these are harmless in nature. But a detailed discussion with your dermatologist is suggested to confirm the state of the condition.

Immediately after the abortion may bother cramping pain in the lower abdomen, caused by contractions of the uterus to its normal size. This is a normal phenomenon. Normal are also slight bleeding from the vagina for a few days. At interruption of the pregnancy for less than 13 weeks, most women can return to their normal work during the day or even immediately after the abortion, unless of course there was no complications. You should perform all doctor's prescription and be sure to visit doctor in 2 weeks.

Let her have folic acid and calcium and vitamin supplements along with a balanced diet rich in green vegetables and fruits and milk ,and also some vitamin E capsule for hair loss. You may give her vit D and calcium supplements too, not forgetting that all kinds of milk products are helpful too.

Hi, I would like to know how likely is to get pregnant when one has had unsafe sex during one's period and the male has not had the orgasm inside but outside the vagina. My period started on the 1st of August and I had sex on the 8th and 9th of August and also there was a slight brown discharge happening on those days too! please help me with the stress and tell me how likely it is for me to get pregnant!

The chances are 50 %.but I do not think there is any reason to get stressed. You can wait for the periods to come. If they get missed then do a urine pregnancy test. Even if the test is positive you can get it aborted by taking tablets only. At present you can do nothing so do not take stress. Stress itself can postpone your periods.

Hello, It is too early actually as the gestation would only have been 2 weeks practically after fertilisation. This at present is an ongoing pregnancy which is too small to even may have been missed on ultrasound. If the SECOND BETA HCG TEST LEVELS ARE MORE THAN 65%raised than previous levels then its an ongoing pregnancy.

Husband and wife together must adopt better eating and exercise habits and support each other so that the problems do not become worse. It has been seen in households where excessive food / junk food is consumed.. everyone in the house, spouses.. children.. ultimately suffers from weight related lifestyle diseases like Hypertension, Diabetes, Cholesterol, Heart Diseases, Joint Pains, Obesity etc... While Diabetes etc is not transmitted through Sex... but definitely these diseases are transmitted through Food Habits. It is recommended that as couple you can take diet counselling to ensure that such problems are naturally controlled.

Vaginal discharge is a whitish liquid that is produced in the uterus and is discharged by way of vagina. It is a normal process and it generally begins in a girl life when she is due to attain puberty or prior to menstruation. It is the nature’s way of keeping the vagina healthy and lubricated. Women experience vaginal discharge all through their lives though it reduces after they reach the menopausal stage. Normal vaginal discharge helps to keep the vagina clean and healthy. It does not have a bad odour or you can say that it has no smell at all and you may see the traces of discharge on your under garment. It is normal for vaginal discharge to increase under certain conditions like- A few days before menstruation During pregnancy During ovulation Hormonal treatment Sexual excitement Emotional stress

Hello this is not the time to worry regarding your sisters fertility as she is unmarried. But definitely we have to treat her for pcod. In the treatment of pcod instead of medicine we should mainly focus on weight reduction. Now she is taking metformin means in her body insulin resistance is already set in. We need to treat that. Then only her hormones will be in harmony with body organs and she will get normal menses. Pcod management can't be done at this platform it needs personal attention and care.
