I am 21 year old male. I am having severe hair fall. Uncountable. My hair fall started from 2 years ago. I took treatment in so many clinics and doctors but nothing worked and at last I tested my thyroid. The results are T3= 112, T4 = 8.3, TSH = 11.07. I think TSH level is very high and it is Hypothyroidism. Right? Will I take medicine for balancing it. Because this is causing excessive hair fall I think. Please give me suggestions for it. So that I can decide what to do.

Mr. Lybrate-user, hypothyroidism is the main reason for hair fall, so controlling it is very essential. With treatment tsh should be around 3 to 4 milli units / ml, then there will be a greater benefit and hair fall can be controlled.

Hello, The medicines mentioned are good enough, continue those. For good control fasting should be closer to 100 mg, PP 160 to 170 mg & HbA1c<6.8. Akmost all the currently used drugs to treat diabetes and high BP are quite safe. There are NO DRUGS which are absolutely free from side effects.

Hello, Thanks for the query. A person with hypothyroidism, when on treatment with adequate dose of thyroxine, should maintain TSH around 3 to 4 mU/L.At that level all the symptoms are in check. There is no special diet for this condition. Only thing to be remembered is to avoid soy beans and soy containing foods. Consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads and fruits. Always use whole grain flour for chapati and roti. Avoid foods made from maida and bakery items. Plus exercise regularly for at least 1 hour a day. Thanks.

Dear lybrate-user, I would like to inform you that clinical studies have shown that pure honey is a healthier choice in diabetic diet than table sugar and any other non-nutritive sweeteners. You can have honey in the morning without lemon. But honey should be pure.

Hello, I am 23 yrs old girl and I am suffering from thyroid disease and my Tsh level is increased by 9, and my weight is increasing day by day. What should I do?

Diploma in Diabetology, MBBS
Endocrinologist, Mumbai
Check your levels of thyroid antibodies. If they are high then you need to start medications for thyroid. What you have is subclinical hypothyroidism. A small dose of thyroid hormone tablet will solve your problems. Your weight loss will be achieved only after correction of tsh levels & following a regular diet & exercise programme.

Dear lybrate user. Please don’t panic. You must understand ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION. There is nothing called erectile dysfunction while having masturbation. Loosing erection in the initial stages of sex or not having erection at all or having late erection or lack of sexual desire are called erectile dysfunction. Erectile dysfunction can be a sign of a physical or psychological condition. It can cause stress, relationship strain, and low self-confidence. The main symptom is a man's inability to get or keep an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse. Patients suffering from erectile dysfunction should first be evaluated for any underlying physical and psychological conditions. If treatment of the underlying conditions doesn't help, medications and assistive devices, such as pumps, can be prescribed. Yoga, meditation and diet could be prescribed once we know the basic reasons for it. Two natural treatments for ED that have shown promise are red ginseng and pomegranate juice. Ginseng is thought to increase nitric oxide production, leading to improved blood flow. Pomegranate juice is a potent antioxidant and can help too. Watermelon could also help. Psychological reasons usually get cleared with sex therapy. I suggest online sex therapy. Take care.

Better to continue your thyro norm till you conceive and have a baby. If you are planning a baby now better to continue meteor in also till you conceive. Do not stop medication without consulting your doctor.
