Dear lybrate user, cholesterol is naturally produced inside the body of every living animal. Human beings are no exception to that. But when we take mutton, chicken, yellow part of a boiled egg, ghee, butter etc we intake cholesterol from external source. This extra cholesterol from external sources increase the total cholesterol content of human body. You should always keep your cholesterol level within normal limits as high cholesterol serves as a precursor to various cardiac diseases. Avoid the aforesaid food. Walk at least 1 hour in a day without any interval. Also you can take homoeopathic mother tincture fucus vesiculosus q, 30 drops, thrice daily, after meals, in a cup of water.

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine

I am 23 years male. I always have cough problem. I think it maybe thyroid. Can you please tell me symptoms of thyroid?
IF you have cough it mean not you have thyroid. but it is chest infection. go for test cbc, x ray chest. and consult doctor. IN HYPOTHYROIDISM:--- where there is deficiency of thyroxine hormone leading to sluggishness, tired feeling, weight increase, slow heart beats, intolerance to cold, swelling of legs, feet and face, difficulty in concentrating and at times in speech. Treatment for hypothyroidism is giving thyroxine tablets. And dose are according to level of thyroid for life time. Avoid bad habits . Avoid stress. Some Relax during work. Go for walk, Take plenty of water, high-carbohydrate foods such as potatoes, rice, pasta and bread. Nutrient-rich foods that improve your health may also benefit your thyroid gland, antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables more plenty of water: Blueberries, tomatoes, bell peppers, and other foods rich in antioxidants can improve overall health and benefit the thyroid gland. Eating foods high in B vitamins, like whole grains, may also help. flax oil, Selenium: Tiny amounts of selenium are needed for enzymes that make thyroid hormones to work properly. Eating selenium-rich foods, such as sunflower seeds or Brazil nuts, can be beneficial. Tyrosine: This amino acid is used by the thyroid gland to produce T3 and T4. Taking a supplement may help, avoid oily foods, junk foods, go for walk. Do Tests every 3 to 6 months. And consult doctor on time.

I ve diabetic retinopathy is their any other medication than laser. Please tell me.

I ve diabetic retinopathy is their any other medication than laser. Please tell me.
Lybrate-user, laser is used when there is proliferative retinopathy and bleeding (pre- retinal, or vitreal). Because those newly generated vessels which bleed have to be burned. Once that is done, if needed other treatments also can be used like intra vitreal injections. The treating ophthalmologist is the best judge for treatment choice. It better to follow that, as this is a sight threatening condition. Thanks for the question.

How should we calculate insulin for type 2 Diabetes mellitus condition ?plz give me with example.

MBBS, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Mumbai
How should we calculate insulin for type 2 Diabetes mellitus condition ?plz give me with example.
Normally starting dose of insulin for type 2 diabetes is roughly 0.4-0.6 units/kg weight. But in type 2 diabetes insulin resistance is variable. In long standing diabetes pt whose beta cells are exhausted and who is obese insulin requirement may go beyond 2-3 units/kg. HbA1c is approx average of blood sugar control in last 3 months. More HbA1c means more uncontrolled diabetes and may require more insulin. Normally diabetologist starts insulin considering age of patient, duration of dm, HbA1c, obesity, current medication details, co morbidities, meal pattern and few other factors. Its individualised treatment and may not work same in other individual. Even insulin has different analogues and have different duration of action. For e.g. Lantus (glargine) has 24 hr action (basal insulin) and humalog (lispro) has 4 hr action. Human actrapid or huminsulin R (regular insulin) has 6-8 hr action. Etc so dosage and timing of insulin is also variable, it depends on which insulin you are taking or which insulin is suitable for you. I hope this answer help you to understand your doubt.
