I had a miscarriage 3 months before. The reason for my miscarriage was Uterine septum for hysteroscopy resection. I had my surgery done after getting my periods. Now after 3 months of my miscarriage I am pregnant again. Can I have a healthy pregnant now. I am really scared please suggest.

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
Yes it is likely to be healthy if the surgery was done well. Also make sure that chances of abortion increases if woman gets pregnant within 6 months of miscarriage. So it is better to put cervical stitch to prevent miscarriage again, specially with your history and uterine anomaly.

Different blood group of couple doesn't hamper the chances of getting pregnant. Get tested for him also. Simple semen test. You get back here with details of your cycle you must have a regular cycle to conceive get ultrasound abdomen done. There will be growing up follicles seen around 12 th day of cycle. Consult your doctor who will suggest some basic blood tests.

Hello Doctor, Why one breast is leaking milk while I feed in the other side. Is it the symptom of overflow or it has some other reasons. I'm a mother of 4 month old kid.

D.E.H.M, B.E.M.S, M.D.(E.H)
Sexologist, Faridabad
It'€™s normal for your breasts to leak, or even spray milk, during the first few weeks after having your baby. Your breasts may leak: Most often in the mornings, when your milk supply is at its highest. From just one breast, during almost every feed. From both breasts, when you're not feeding. Milk leaks can be inconvenient and sometimes embarrassing. But it’s actually a good sign that your body is capable of making lots of milk for your baby.

Hi I I'm a married girl. I'm using femilon medicine since last one year to prevent pregnancy. Let me Clear that these medicine are safe or not. Is there any side effect? I'm worried about side effects. I don't find any side effect till now.

These medicines are absolutely safe and you can have them till the time you don't want to be pregnant. No side-effects if used for longer time and the fertility will resume once you leave them.

Hello, You had sex in your safe period, however bleeding after coitus is mostly seen with cervicitis or cervical erosions and needs to be evaluated. Pregnancy is unlikely as you were protected throughout.

My first child birth was on 19 Jan 2016, my period occurs early for first 2 months. Last period date was 5 mar 2016 but till period not occurs for this month, any issue please refer.

BHMS

Hi I presume you are breastfeeding your baby; and when baby sucks on the nipple there is release of some hormones in blood which delays periods. It is entirely normal for any female who is breastfeeding her baby. So just relax and enjoy your motherhood with your baby because the periods will return to normal when breastfeeding will be reduced after 6 mnths of your delivery.

Paralysis Of Vagina - Things You Must Know!

Paralysis Of Vagina - Things You Must Know!

We all know that our intimacy plays an essential role in how we feel about ourselves and how others perceive us. But what happens when one is stuck with paralysis, what’s the effect of this event on our sexual image and performance?

  1. Paralysis impacts a woman’s sexuality because it changes the physical functioning, sensation and response.
  2. Apart from all the life changing things that happen post-paralysis, women are also left with a great emotional and sometimes, a physiological burden. They wonder if they can have sex again, and whether it’s possible to get pregnant and have babies.
  3. Paralysis doesn’t affect physical attraction and the desire for sex. In fact, in many cases, though not all, sexual pleasure is also possible as sexuality in women living with paralysis is less affected than in men.

Physiological changes

  • Most women with paralysis have no physiological changes that prevent them from having sex.
  • But some women who are paralysed from the waist down or neck down may suffer from paralysis of the vagina.
  • In this condition, the nerves that feed the vagina become completely dead, leaving a woman with no sensation in her genitals.
  • These women are unable to experience the feeling of having penetrative sex or oral or manual stimulation of the genitals or very little.
  • Sexual touch and pleasure can sometimes be experienced by women due to the vagus nerve which bypasses the spine.
  • The woman thus, has to re-learn other ways of enjoying physical closeness with her partner. It is also often seen that loss of sensation in the genitals is offset by an abundance of sensation in other parts of the body like the neck or just above the point of paralysis.
  • Women also have to be trained differently to enjoy penetrative sex by say inserting a finger into their vaginas during penetration as otherwise, they are unable to experience the feelings during penetration due to a paralysed vagina.

Other problems usually found in women with paralysis are

  1. Autonomic dysreflexia or sudden high blood pressure due to spinal cord paralysis at the time of sexual activity.
  2. Many women also experience a loss of vaginal muscle control and most are unable to produce enough vaginal lubrication during sex due to the interruption in normal nerve signals from the brain to the genital area.
  3. Muscle loss can’t be corrected but lubrication can be taken care of by using water-based lubricants like K-Y jelly.
  4. Also, low sex drive is common among women with paralysis.
  5. Viagra has been clinically tested on women with spinal cord injuries and it’s been reported to be effective in promoting sexual arousal and sensation during intercourse.

Orgasm

  1. A woman with paralysis can experience normal orgasm during sex if there is some pelvic denervation, but in women, with paralysed vaginas, a normal orgasm doesn’t seem very likely though researchers are trying to explore more.
  2. Some researchers think that paralysed women retain an ability to orgasm due to a ‘reflex’ that requires no brain input. Research also indicates that ability to achieve orgasms is independent of neurological impairment.
  3. What happens more often is that paralysed women quit trying to have an orgasm because they lack or have limited sensation in the genital area.
  4. Research also suggests that these women can achieve orgasm using an FDA approved clitoral vacuum suction device to treat female orgasmic dysfunction. The device works by increasing blood flow, and improves engorgement of the clitoris and vaginal lubrication and thus enhances orgasm response. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a sexologist.

Does a normal period means pregnancy ? Should we go for a pregnancy test even if we had periods go delay by just 2 days? And then the normal menstrual cycle came for for 5 days which was very normal as earlier one.

Menstrual cycle may be 28 +/- 7days, its normal, cycle may be irregular due to mental stress tensions etc,PCOD Thyroid also causes irregular period. Pregnancy may positive after regular intercourse without protection followed by missed period

Last 2 years I am taking the Novelon Tablet because that time I don't need to get pregnant. Now I need to get pregnant for that what I can do please suggest me like I have to stop the medicine and any new medicine I will take. Last 3 days before my period start and today is the fourth day. Please suggest me so that I can process to get pregnant. Please mention which medicine I will take to get pregnant.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. If you have stopped the contraceptive and period has occurred, then there is no need to take any medication for conception. What is needed is successful contact with your husband. Around 10 to 12 th day of the cycle. Plus get your Thyroid test doen to see if everything is normal. As if TSh is higher then conception may not occur. Thanks.
