Dear Mr. Lybrate-user. Pimples i. E. Acne vulgaris has many causes such as oily skin, digestive disorders, intake of excess fatty food etc. Since you have not mentioned your food habit, your life style and what type your skin is, I could just advise you to follow some simple measures and check the result after 15 days. Whenever you come home from outside wash your face with a facewash. Also wash your face before going to sleep and after waking up. Drink plenty of water. You can make a schedule of drinking 200ml water (one glass of water) after every one hour. If you have a habit of adding extra table-salt on your food then stop it immediately. These are very simple measures. Follow these for 15 days. If your problem is not reduced after 15 days then you may need a detailed consultation.

Infertility - 4 Causes Behind It

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, MBBS, DGO
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
Infertility - 4 Causes Behind It

Infertility is a condition wherein a woman does not get pregnant in spite of having unprotected intercourse over a period of a year or even more. An abnormal menstrual cycle that is either too short or too long, irregular or even scanty can be an indication of a lack of ovulation, which in turn, is another factor behind female infertility.

Causes

  1. Ovulation disorders are characterized by either a lack of ovulation or irregular and infrequent ovulation. These are a major cause of infertility. This may be due to defects in the regulation of the reproductive hormones by the pituitary gland or the hypothalamus (brain center responsible for producing some of the most essential hormones required by the body). Malfunctioning of the ovary is another cause in itself. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, premature failure of the ovaries (a condition wherein a woman’s ovaries fail to function properly even before she is 40 years old), hypothalamic dysfunction (a dysfunction of the hypothalamus) and excessive production of prolactin (a hormone that stimulates milk production among women after childbirth) by the pituitary gland are some of the factors responsible for the occurrence of such a disorder.

  2. Damaged fallopian tubes do not allow the sperms to fuse properly with the egg. They might also prevent the fertilized egg from entering into the uterus. This condition may be caused due to pelvic inflammatory diseases (a group of infections of the reproductive organs in women), an infection in the fallopian tubes or the uterus caused due to various Sexually Transmitted Diseases, any abdominal surgery or surgery of the pelvic region and pelvic tuberculosis.

  3. Endometriosis, wherein the tissue that usually grows in the uterus, starts growing outside it, is another factor responsible for infertility.

  4. Several cervical or uterine disorders, such as tumors, inflammation within the uterus, uterine abnormalities, a cervical narrowing or the inability of the cervix to produce mucous for the sperm to travel to the uterus, are likely to impact fertility by obstructing implantation or enhancing the chances of miscarriage.

Treatments

Fertility drugs can be used to regulate and induce ovulation. But they carry with them certain risks and therefore you should consult your physician prior to consumption. Few examples of these drugs are Clomiphene Citrate, Gonadotropins, Metformin, Letrozole and Bromocriptine.

  1. Surgical procedures can be recommended to correct reproductive abnormalities and restore fertility. A laparoscopic surgery or a tubal ligation reversal surgery (a surgery that unites one’s fallopian tubes again in order to enable the woman to have a baby) can be advised by the doctor.

  2. Reproductive assistance by Intrauterine insemination (a process that involves putting sperms inside a woman’s uterus in order to help her conceive) and Assisted reproductive technology (consisting of IVF and surrogacy).

I have acne on my face from last one year and also have hairfall from last one month. What to do?

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
I have acne on my face from last one year and also have hairfall from last one month. What to do?
Hi. For acne: Wash your face with Bakson's Facewash (wash your face with warm water only) and followed by CTMP, i.e., cleansing, toning, moisturising and protection (apply liberally Sunscreen Gel with SPF-30) after washing your face daily. Home-made remedies: - Take 1 tbsp of fuller's earth (multani mitti) + a dash of lime + bit of rosewater – apply this on your face till it gets dried up, then rinse it off. - Take 1 tsp of Alum (or fitkari), make it slightly wet with water and apply this on your wet face, spread it well; let it dry and rinse it off. Alum remove your excessive moisture or oil and it also tightens the skin's tonicity. Medication: You can take homoeopathic medicines – Berberis Aquefolium Q/ 10 drops in 1/2 cup of water/ thrice a day (and for local application as well) and Kali Brom. 200/ thrice a day – for 20 days. For Hairloss: It's normal to lose up to 100 hair per day, and in most people, those hairs grow back. But many men -- and some women -- lose hair as they grow older. You can also lose your hair if you have certain diseases, such as thyroid problems, diabetes, or lupus. If you take certain medicines or have chemotherapy for cancer, you may also lose your hair. Other causes are stress, a low protein diet, a family history, use of bore water, or nutritional deficiencies. Need to rule out any causative factor or underlying medical condition. Management: Take diet rich in protein like non-veg, eggs (it's loaded with essential nutrients such as proteins, vitamin b12, iron, zinc and omega 6 fatty acids in large amounts and biotin), different pulses & legumes, sprouts, nuts (sp. Walnuts and almonds); iron-rich food like green vegetables, dates, carrots, prunes, green peas; also oats, shrimp, take flaxseeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, green tea, soyabean, fruits, salads, etc. Take low-fat dairy products (they also contain whey and casein, two high-quality protein sources) take proper 6-9hrs of sound sleep. Give up the habit of smoking and excessive alcohol intake. Avoid junk food and any kind of beverages (tea, coffee, aerated drinks, cold drinks, etc.) avoid canned/ tinned food or food that contains preservatives (eat fresh ones). Avoid use of hard water to wash the head rather use boiled water for head wash. Avoid use of harsh hair colour, hair treatment like rebonding, straightening, perming, etc. Avoid vigorous exercises or any supplements provided by the gym! cover your head with scarf or cap while stepping outside. Use rose wood/ any wooden hair comb to brush your hair. Regularly massage head and hair with coconut oil, almond oil (depending upon your scalp type) 1 to 3 times a week. Regular exercising is also one of the important point, but should be done under some good, qualified yoga teacher or instructor for proper guidance; it also releases the stress/ tension in the mind and the body and keeps you fit and young! Medication: Take homoeopathic medicines - Schwabe's Wiesbaden 200 & Alfalfa tonic twice a day for 1 month and revert. Use Schwabe's Arnica shampoo and Hair Growth oil regularly as per the condition of your scalp (minimum 3 times a week). After shampooing, use Bakson's Arnica hair conditioner as well after every head wash.

My baby boy is 1 1/2 month old. Which oil is best for baby's massage for his fair skin tone.

MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Zirakpur
My baby boy is 1 1/2 month old. Which oil is best for baby's massage for his fair skin tone.
Using an oil can make massage easier for you and more relaxing for your baby. Everyone seems to have an opinion on which oil is best for baby massage. Some parents favor baby mineral oils, while others choose a particular vegetable oil. Some oils are thought to be more easily absorbed into skin. You may find massage easier with an oil that soaks in, or you may prefer one that stays more slippery on your baby's skin. Your decision about what to use also depends on your baby's skin. If your baby has eczema, it is better to use her medical emollient cream or ointment. There are some oils or creams that it's best not to use, whether or not your baby has eczema. These are: mustard oil, because it has a toxic effect on the skin barrier, causing irritation and potential damage to delicate baby skin. Unrefined peanut oil, because the proteins it contains may sensitise your baby to an allergic reaction to peanuts or cause a reaction on your baby's skin. It's also best not to use refined peanut oil. Although it's unlikely to cause a problem, refined oil may be cross-contaminated with unrefined oil. Aqueous cream, because it contains a harsh detergent called sodium lauryl sulfate that may irritate your baby's skin and damage her skin barrier vegetable oils that are high in linoleic acid may be gentler on your baby's skin. Linoleic acid is an essential fatty acid that helps to protect the barrier element of your baby's skin. Vegetable oils that usually contain high levels of linoleic acid include: sunflower oil grapeseed oil if your baby has dry or broken skin, or atopic eczema, avoid vegetable oils that are higher in another type of fatty acid called oleic acid. Vegetable oils high in oleic acid may be harsher on your baby's skin than vegetable oils rich in linoleic acid or baby mineral oils. Olive oil is high in oleic acid. One study on adults found that, compared with sunflower seed oil, using olive oil on the skin damaged the skin barrier. It caused mild redness even when there was no history of sensitive skin. Oleic acid can make some layers of your baby's skin more permeable. This permeability could help oil and water to be absorbed into your baby's skin. But it could also mean that oil and water is lost, rather than trapped in. So if your baby's skin is already dry and tender, then oleic acid could increase moisture loss from it, which causes dry skin.

Hi, I am 18 years old. I have problem with pimples since a long time. About a year back I consulted a Derm. He treated me for about 6 months. The treatment was Isotretinoin. He prescribed me for a capsule sotret for 3 months daily and one month in alternative days. I also used a Benzoyl peroxide cream 2.5% initially then 5% as per his instruction. He also prescribed some kind of anti biotic for three consecutive days after i consult him every month. He also gave me clyndomycene for fresh pimples. After a 5-6 months of expensive treatment the problem was almost gone. He said to do chemical peels for marks. I did it once but it didn't have much effect. He said i will have to do it 3-4 times to get rid of marks. Since it was expensive i didn't do it. There was no problem of pimples for next 6-8 months. Now it is back again. Is there any treatment for acne for getting rid of it permanent?

Diploma In Dermatology And Venerology And Leprosy (DDVL), Fellowship in Dermatosurgery

Hello, thanks a ton for writing up such a detailed summary. Most people ask such vague questions and i spend 2 days only trying to figure out the entire problem. Coming to your querry, pimples cant be cured completely. They are known for recurrence. And peels will take 3-4 sittings for results. There are peels which will give results in 10 days but are risky(google for jessner's peel). I will be able to help if you could send your pictures. Also mention if you have dandruff and are you on any therapy right now?

Homeopath,
My skin is turning black coz of this humid. What can I do to stop this.
Use this home remedy:- *orange and curd mixture works well on dark damaged tanned skin. Orange has skin lightening properties and works well as a face mask. Curd works as the cleansing component on the skin and gives brightening glow to the skin. Mix dry orange peels with curd and make a fine paste. Gently apply this pack on your face and wash it with chilled rose water after 10-15 minutes. It makes your skin look fairer naturally. * mix cucumber juice+ tomato juice, then apply this on your face.
