As it is more than 72 hours i-pill may not work. The only option is to get a copper coil fitted within the next two days or wait to see if she misses her periods!

Vaginal infection

General Physician (AM)
Alternative Medicine Specialist, Chandigarh

It is a common condition, and causes discomfort in post-pubertal and adult women, whether sexually active or not.
Though the condition will affect around one third of women during their lifetimes, there are steps you can take to prevent having an itchy, fishy smelling vagina.

Prevent vaginal infections:

- wipe from front to back after a bowel movement. Pat yourself dry after passing urine. Use unscented, uncoloured, double-layered toilet paper.

- wash your genital area once a day with plain water or use a mild, unperfumed soap to wash the genital area. Rinse well with a hand-held shower head and dry the area thoroughly with a soft towel or a cool air hairdryer before getting dressed. Don? t use bubble baths, vaginal deodorants or talc, or douches.

- use sanitary towels, rather than tampons, or change tampons every 4 hours. Do not forget to remove tampons.

- eat a well-balanced diet, which includes dahi, curd, yoghurt. Follow a healthy lifestyle, since a healthy person fights infection more effectively.

- when taking antibiotics, take probiotics, such as yakult, or increase your intake of live yoghurt.

- if you are overweight, get into shape, as being overweight might cause repeated yeast infections.

- wear cotton underwear. Cotton absorbs moisture. Yeast thrives in a warm, damp atmosphere. Let your body breathe. Avoid tight-fitting jeans, lycra shorts and tights. Wear loose clothing and sleep without any undergarments at night.

- do not use any chemicals, such as douches, spermicides

One of the common reason is the pressure caused by the baby against your muscles and pelvic bones. You cud also have vaginal/vulval vericosities if there is swelling also. Get urself examined by a nearby gynecologist. If nothing is there then nothing to worry. Take more of rest on left side.

I have herpes type 2 and I'm a female, my boyfriend is wanting to perform oral sex on me but I won't let him because I'm scared although I do want to and I miss it. We currently don't know if he has herpes. My doctor hasn't say much about oral sex but I would like some information do people who has.

MBBS, PGDUS, Fellowship In Aesthetic Medicine, Advance Course In Diabetes - USA, MD - Medicine
Aesthetic Medicine Specialist, Delhi
Hsv 2 is genital herpes. Can spread through vaginal sex or oro- vaginal sex but transmission is common only during active episode or period. You can do but avoid during active periods. In non active periods there is 4 percent risk of transmission as found in some research papers. Oral mouth to mouth you can do.

10 Side Effects of Birth Control Pills

MBBS, DGO
Gynaecologist, Gurgaon
10 Side Effects of Birth Control Pills

Most medications are used because of their one particular therapeutic effect. However, invariably, they affect other organs or systems and produce some good and some adverse effects. The same happens with birth control pills (BCPs), which are the most commonly used method of contraception. It is also the most effective method. It contains the female hormones estrogen and progesterone in various combinations and these have an effect on various body functions, so it should come as a surprise that regular use of BCPs leads to a number of side effects.

Read on to know more

  1. Intermenstrual bleeding: This is the most common side effect and occurs in about 90% of the women, but usually subsides within 3 months. They experience bleeding between their regular periods. While mere spotting can be ignored, bleeding for more than 4 to 5 days needs a visit to the doctor.
  2. Missed period: It is very essential to take the pill at the same time daily. Sometimes, a period might be missed or may be very light and this should be reported.
  3. Effect on libido: While some report a decrease in libido, there are others who experience an increased sex drive. This depends on the individual and not consistent.
  4. Vaginal discharge: The amount and type of discharge can change when on the pill. Decreased lubrication may lead to a reduced sex drive, as it might be painful. If the discharge is foul-smelling or looks suspicious for an infection, then a doctor should be consulted.
  5. Mood changes: Changes in mood and prominent mood swings are very common in women using contraceptives, with many feeling depressed often.
  6. Effects on breasts: While it is not yet proven if they increase the risk of breast cancer, most women experience breast enlargement, tenderness, and sometimes pain. This is more common in between their periods.
  7. Headaches and migraine: BCPs are also proven to have worsening effects on migraine and headaches.
  8. Circulatory effects: Oral contraceptives increase the chances of heart attack and stroke, especially in women who are over 35 and are smokers. Most women experience a slight increase in blood pressure and are more prone to form blood clots. It is essential that contraceptives are used under medical guidance only.
  9. Digestive effects: Oral contraceptives can cause loss of appetite, changes in body weight, diarrhea, and nausea. The weight gain is also attributed to increased fluid retention, especially in the hip and breast areas.
  10. Skin: Some women may experience skin rashes and acne and sometimes hair loss due to the increased level of hormones in circulation.

It is very important that the pill is taken at the same time for best results. Any suspicious symptom should be immediately reported to the doctor.

Hello , If pregnancy is ruled out then the delay is stress induced or due to possible PCOD, which needs to be ruled out before opting for withdrawal bleed with progesterones.

Even if your husband has not ejaculated inside your vagina, yet mere penetration may be enough since sperm leaks and travels fast. Please get a pregnancy test (Blood) on 17th and repeat (both blood & urine) after 7 more days to rule out pregnancy.

Hi lybrate-user. For a healthy woman 28_30 days are considered as a regular cycle. As per your reports yours is a regular cycle. You can consider 12 _14 days from the day of menstruation is considered as the fertile period since these days are ovulation period. So conception chance is more. Take healthy & rich fibre diet. Take urud dhal along with gingelly oil early morning empty stomach. Advice your husband to take milk, walnuts daily. Begetting a child must be a choice not a chance.
