Washing the labia minora with wash can cause any harm or darken them? I am 22 virgin.

Absolutely not. Provided you don't wash with any harmful material. Otherwise washing with plain water doesn't change its colour.

Fine Motor Skills - How Occupational Therapy Can Help Improve Them?

Fine Motor Skills - How Occupational Therapy Can Help Improve Them?

What are fine motor skills?
Motor skills are movements and actions carried out by the proper coordination of the brain, nervous system, and muscles working together. These motions are divided into two types – fine motor skills and gross motor skills. Acquiring and mastering motor skills or control helps you explore the world around you and also helps with your cognitive development.

  • Gross motor skills: They are the movements and actions of the larger groups of muscles of the arms, legs and other body parts to see visible actions like running, swimming, crawling etc
  • Fine motor skills or dexterity: They are the movements and actions of the larger groups of muscles of the wrists, hands, fingers, and the feet and toes to see visible actions like picking up objects between the thumb and finger, writing, etc

Fine motor skills will keep developing with your age, practice and the increased use of muscles. This happens while you are playing sports or playing an instrument. Activities like writing, coloring and using the computer also help in acquiring and mastering them.

Reasons behind fine motor skill issues
As all motor skills require proper coordination of the brain, nervous system, muscles, joints along with good eyesight; issues with any of them can have an effect on dexterity and decrease control. Some common causes affecting the fine motor skills are…

  1. StrokeThe frontal lobe controls your movement, and the cerebellum “fine-tunes” them. As the cerebellum controls fine motor movement, balance, and the brain's ability to determine limb position, a stroke in the cerebellum leads to paralysis or "jerky" muscle movements.
  2. Dyspraxia or DCD: This condition affects co-ordination of gross motor skills requiring balance, kicking and throwing a ball and fine motor skills too such as writing or using small objects carefully in children and adults.

Apart from stroke or DCD any major injury, illness, congenital deformities, cerebral palsy, and developmental disabilities can hamper the fine motor skills development too.

Occupational therapy for improving fine motor skills
All fine motor skills are imperative for your own self-care and maintaining self-dependence for the different activates carried out throughout your life, any dexterity issues can severely bring down your self-esteem and quality of life. Occupational therapy can help improve overall fine motor skills. It involves the use of particular activities as an aid to recuperation from physical or mental illness. An Occupational therapist can practice in different settings, like: hospitals, long-term care facilities, schools, outpatient clinics, and the assisted living communities too.

So, depending on how soon the fine motor skill issues are diagnosed and their severity one can approach the Occupational therapist for their improvement. He or she would then follow an assessment process allowing them to identify the nature of your difficulties with fine motor skills, and the reasons for them. Once identified, they work with you to put in place a plan to address them. Depending on each individual case the therapy would involve a practice of different movements on a regular basis to help you improve and master the fine motor skills.

Nonunion Fractures - Know What Are They!

Nonunion Fractures - Know What Are They!

Both young and old are vulnerable to fractures. While the former gets them during intense physical activities, the latter experience fractures due to less bone density. Thus, quite common, they are, however, if you experience a persistent pain in the fracture spot even after undergoing treatment, you must visit your doctor without delay as it might be a case of nonunion.

Despite modern treatment methods that heal most fractures, sometimes new bone tissue doesn't begin to form and repair the broken pieces. This hindrance to the healing of bones is known as ‘nonunion.' Patients suffering from nonunion of fractures usually feel pain in the fractured area even after the fracture disappears and can last for months or years. In some cases, these pains may get triggered, if pressure is applied to the fractured area.

Why does a nonunion occur?
The three most important aspects of bone healing include stability, blood supply, and nutrition. If the broken bones that have been put together are moved out of place before they fully heal, it can lead to complications. Cases, where surgical fixation is involved, can be disrupted due to various reasons, including ineffective surgery which can happen due to unforeseen complications and can cause nonunion.

  • Limited blood supply to the fracture site can be caused due to a lack of or disruption of the body's healing cells. Blood supply to the injured area usually returns to normal during the healing period, but there might be medical complications that prevent fractured bones from healing.
  • Nutrition is the third biggest factor that can cause nonunion of fractures if the patient does not have a well-balanced diet and lacks essential vitamins, calcium, and proteins in the body. Dietary guidelines need to be followed to allow proper healing.
  • Other situational risk factors that may contribute to nonunion include age, diabetes, infections, anemia or use of tobacco and other forms of nicotine.

Treatment of A Nonunion

  • Depending on the situation, treatment is possible using both surgical and non-surgical methods. A bone stimulator may be used to treat a nonunion non-surgically. This small device helps send ultrasonic waves to stimulate healing, and through repeated usage of the device, it can help patients start healing.
  • Surgical treatment involves the usage of a bone graft that can help new bone (or bones) to grow in the affected area. Bone grafts are surgically planted, and they provide fresh bone cells and necessary chemicals that the body needs for healing. Surgeons make an incision and remove pieces of bone from different areas of the patient and transplant them into the affected area. Bone harvesting can be a painful process, but it does not affect the bodily functions or cause any cosmetic problems in any way to the patient.
  • In many cases, bone harvesting can be avoided by using allografts (bone grafts from cadavers) or other substitutes (known as osteobiologics) made of chemicals that can be fixated both internally and externally.
  • These methods kickstart the healing process and allow the fractured bones to heal and return the area to its normal and undamaged state.

What r d symptoms dat indicates dat a girl is pregnant apart from missing her periods.
Hi, there are several physical and mental/emotional symptoms that are the earliest symptoms of pregnancy. The most obvious sign is a missed period. Tender, swollen breasts and/or sore nipples, darkening of the areolas, fatigue, faintness or dizziness and nausea and vomiting etc are signs and symptoms.

Hi I'm the mother having query.
My girl baby is 7wks old and she cries a lot at least once in a day continuously for ...
A 7 weeks old baby does give sleepless nights as stomach is tiny, neck is not stable and the feed should be on demand, rather than as per schedule-every hourly or so. Baby will be a bit stable at 3 months when she will be able to hold her neck and burp properly. & weeks old need not cry due to hunger only, she can be overfed, not able to burp, wet nappy, passing stools irregularly, being handled by lot too many people out of affection and getting cranky in the process. A 7 week old baby needs at least 20 hours of sleep & a good bath every day, there is need to hold the baby upright holding her neck with one hand and patting on her back after every feed so that baby is helped to expel gases in stomach by burping (some babies may take 15 minutes to do so, but it is worth to hold her upright, supported by both arms) give her a good massage every day, foam bath after an hour (i have seen some mothers not bathing baby after oil massage, imagine if you were rubbed oil all over and not washed after some time, you too will become irritable) I am sure you are giving your own milk, if not keep her feed ready as babies feel more relaxed and hungry after bath, take milk and go to sleep for few hours. Do not allow strangers to wake her up out of affection. Use cotton nappies, disposables are not for our climate. On an average 6 nappies per 12 hours, means a change after every two hours. Do not give water/ honey / ors if she is taking your feed or otherwise too.
