Piriformis stretch 1. Lie on your back. 2. Cross your left leg over your right so that your left ankle rests on your right knee. 3. Use your hands to grab hold of your left knee and pull it gently toward the opposite shoulder. 4. Hold for 15 to 30 seconds. 5. Relax, and then repeat with the other leg. 6. Pain in the both hip and knee joints, with swelling, morning stiffness and clicking noises are all symptoms of arthritic changes. There are many causes if joint arthritis, but mostly as per your case they are age-related. The feeling of ants or "tingling numbness" as we call it is a sign of nerve compression or vascular insufficiency. Your father may need a detailed examination and investigations like x-rays, mri etc to know the root cause, the extent and also help plan a course of treatment. Till then light exercises, rest, cold fomentation will help. Do not try ti massage the area of kness with swelling as it may further damage his knee. Take care.

I met with a minor accident and was diagnosed with a UN DISPLACED 2ND metatarsal FRACTURE (L) MY LEFT WAS PUT IN TEMPORARY PLASTER FOR TWO WEEKS WHICH WAS CONVERTED IN TO PERMANENT PLASTER TODAY. BUT I FEEL IT IS LOOSE. BUT DOCTOR SAYS IT IS O.K. & ASKED ME TO REVIEW IT AFTER ONE WEEK. I BELIEVE HIS OPINION IS ONLY TO COVER UP. WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF IT IS O.K IF THE PLASTER IS TOO LOSE ON FIRST DAY ITSELF.

MBBS, Diploma In Orthopaedics (D. Ortho)
Orthopedist, Lucknow
hi undisplayed fracture has no complications..some surgeons prefer to give a walking plaster with heel...while some advise only strapping of foot in undisplaced fracture.. since it's weight transmitting metatarsal, I would prefer for walking plaster for 4 weeks do not worry if plaster is loose, just refrain from walking for aother 2 to 3 weeks thanks

Any athlete who places stress on the spine is vulnerable to a back strain. Here are some tips for how to handle your back pain: rest your back for 24-48 hours, but do not stay completely immobile; limited, mild movement is better than bed rest. Apply ice packs for 15-20 minutes, 3-4 times a day for the first 48-72 hours. Apply moist heat after the first 48-72 hours if it makes you more comfortable. Aspirin, ibuprofen may relieve pain and reduce inflammation. If you sleep on your side, place a pillow between your knees. If you sleep on your back, place a pillow under your knees. Avoid sitting in one position for long periods of time. Get up and stretch every 20-25 minutes. Execute each movement required in your sport, gradually increasing the speed of movement, before returning to normal training and competition. Use a lower back support to keep the pressure distributed evenly on the muscles of the lower back. When lifting heavy objects, keep your back as straight as possible and use your legs. Do not bend at the waist. Avoid slouching when sitting. See a doctor immediately if the pain is intense, spreads down one or both legs, causes weakness or numbness, or follows a fall or a blow to your back.

Madam you are describing a classic nerve pressure problem called lumbar canal stenosis in which part or whole of bunch of nerves in spine get compressed by a ruptured disc. The diagnosis requires mri scan and spine consultation.
