World Hypertension Day

World Hypertension Day

17th May - World Hypertension Day
Lets limit our salt intake for a healthy life. Our daily requirement of salt is 1 tsp, monitoring salt content in our diet will help cut down its intake. So here are some tips to help you maintain low sodium diet:

  • Read the nutrition labels on packed foods, and check for sodium
  • Prepare your own meals (and limit the salt in recipes and products).
  • Buy fresh fruits, and vegetables.
  • Rinse canned foods containing sodium (such as beans, tuna, and vegetables).
  • Enjoy the natural flavour of foods like salads, buttermilk, curd and fruits without added any salt on them
  • Add spices to your food. Instead of salt, try coriander, black pepper, nutmeg, parsley, cumin, cilantro, ginger, rosemary, thyme, garlic or onion powder, bay leaf, oregano, dry mustard
  • Reduce portion size; less food means less sodium.

Your weight for your height is fine. You lack muscles which can be gained by some strength exercises like push ups, sit ups and some yoga asanas. In diet avoid refined processed food, junk, juices and food that is not cooked fresh Eat freshly prepared homemade meals more, 8-10 glasses of water. Consume a lot of salads and raw vegetables as they help to loose belly fat and your love handles.

Effective way to reduce weight. Is it only diet? Or mainly exercise alone? Please suggest as to what is ideal for breakfast and the other meals in the day.

Hi lybrate-user Exercise and diet go hand in hand but to be precise it is 80: 20. 80% diet and 20% exercise to achieve 100%. Breakfast should be anything cooked fresh like poha, upma, chilla, or stuffed roti Make sure to eat 3 main meals along with 2 mid meals Lunch and dinner can be roti or rice with dal/ veg Mid meals can be fruits, nuts or salads.

Hello doctor,
this is sriram kadimi I want to gain weight please suggest me best practices to gain weight.
Hi lybrate-user! To gain weight you should consume calorie and protein dense foods like banana, dates, besan, sweet milk preparations like kheer, milkshakes and custard. Avoid junk and aerated drink as they are just empty calories and do not contribute to any nutrition. Do half an hour of strength exercises like sit ups, jumping jacks and push ups to strengthen your muscles.
