Children generally live at home with their families providing for their needs, often with the assistance of workers from state agencies. Until your child reaches the age of three, services are provided through the Early Intervention system. A Services Coordinator (Case Manager) works with parents and/or guardians to develop an Individualized Family Services Plan (IFSP). Services for a child with developmental delay may include individual therapies, play groups, parent training, family counseling, or transportation services. Depending on your state, there may be a sliding-scale fee for these services, or they may be free of charge. At three years of age, the school system begins to provide the needed school and therapy services. children with mental retardation are entitled to a free and appropriate education based on their needs. School systems are required to work with parents to develop an Individualized Education Program (IEP). The IEP describes each child's own needs and how the school system will meet them. Both special education and other needed services are provided free of charge. Ideally, children with mental retardation are enrolled in regular classrooms with children of the same age, with special supports as needed. They may be included in a regularclassroom for all or part of the school day. Sometimes children may also attend specialized classrooms or schools, based on their individual needs. All the best

I am suffering from addiction of watching porn movie. How I can remove this habit permanently. Please

Masters in Clinical Psychology

I am suffering from addiction of watching porn movie. How I can remove this habit permanently. Please
Hi lybrate-user, Compulsive use of the internet for porn can interfere with daily life and your relationships, leaving you feel ashamed. If you notice porn having a negative impact on your life but find yourself having difficulty cutting it out, you may need to go to greater lengths to get your problem under control. By replacing your negative behavior with positive ones, you can beat this habit. Once you’ve decided if you have a problem, you’ll need to identify what exactly you’re wanting to change. Some people may want to stop porn consumption altogether, while others may want to change how and when they watch porn. You may want to stop watching a certain genre of pornography. Be clear in what you want to change in order to move forward. If you use internet and porn addiction a way to cope with your emotions, there are more productive ways to cope. If you use pornography because you are shy interacting with individuals you are romantically interested in, consider building your social skills. Perhaps you deal with anger or frustration through internet and porn. Find ways to address these areas of your life that don’t include pornography. Learn healthy ways to Control Anger and Cope With Frustration Consider engaging in healthy daily activities, such as physical activity or sports, meditation, relaxation, yoga, deep breathing. Since excessive porn consumption is generally a habit, one of the major causes is boredom. You simply don't having anything else you'd rather be doing, so you turn to internet and pornography for entertainment. If you combat boredom and fill your time with other activities, you can kick a porn habit. You should use laptop in public locations, limit the usage of internet, delete all pornographic contents, put lock on such sites or ask someone to do it for you. You have to understand that no craving can last forever. Human beings cannot sustain any emotion or feelings indefinitely, and eventually any feeling or craving will decrease. So the trick to stopping porn addiction is to learn to ride out cravings; to master a skill to stay away long enough for cravings to go away. This of course sounds simple, but as many addicts know it is not as easy to do. Over time you will learn that cravings do not rule your life, and that there is a way for you to ride out a craving and return to your normal self without having to act out. And the high that you get from feeling proud of yourself will be much stronger than any high that you could possibly get from porn addiction. Practice deep breathing daily and exercise for 30 minutes atleast.

Dear lybrate user. I can understand. Usually during adolescent period, due to high hormonal activity, the attention span is less. Irritability is more. It is normal to have these problems during adolescent period. Your child needs to be active so as to regain the normalcy. I suggest online counseling and motivation therapy. Take care.

Hello sir. * what are the ill-effects of smoking? * how to control smoking? * how to reduce the effects of smoking? * Which is the best age to quit smoking habit? * How to quit smoking habit? * Is electronic cigarettes injurious to health?

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Best age to stop smoking is before 40 ,In fact do not start all Only by using strong will power and avoiding all situations where you feel like smoking, chewing tobacco or drinking or using drugs/ weed, avoiding friends who smoke and diverting mind by reading or chewing a gum, like NICORETTE and taking a walk when you crave for a smoke can all help. You can chew Nicorette gum which is nicotine replacement. There are medicines available. Which can be prescribed if asked personally Cigarette smoking is a leading preventable cause of mortality. It kills more than 60 lakh people worldwide every year. More than 50% of regular smokers would invariably die from tobacco-related illnesses which includes heart attack, cancer or asthmatic lung diseases. Best age to stop smoking is before 40 31st May is “World No Tobacco Day” Quitting smoking before the age of 40 is associated with larger decline in premature death than stopping it at a later date. Best age therefore to stop smoking is before 40. However, stopping smoking even after the age of 50 is still associated with lower risk of death as compared to those who continue to smoke. Even in smokers aged 80 years or more, quitting smoking appears to reduce some mortality. Electronic cigars can help cut down smoking but it also needs to be finally stopped.

I am 18 yrs old & suffer from headache n always feeling disappointed by myself want to go abroad but family can't support me so everyday think about suicide.

You are very young and have a full life ahead of you. Sometimes when we are not able to get what we want, we need to adjust our wants to cope with the situation. If your parents cannot afford to fund your trip abroad, then that is the reality and you must learn to accept that. People who cannot make these changes to suit the situation end up becoming maladjusted persons and can suffer more problems in life. It is our resilience that is a sign of good mental health. Surely you do not come into that category!!! Please talk to a counselor, either with your parents or without them too, and discuss your problems at length. At your age you will need to see a lot more of life and realize that you are not mature enough to take your life for want of proper understanding of your circumstances. A counselor will do the needful to explain these intricacies of life. Even so, if you have a concrete reason and plan I am sure money can be arranged. To process this you will need a third person like a counselor to find out a way to do this and convince your parents too. There are loans that are available subject to the plan be feasible. Discuss these options and if need be meet with a career guidance counselor to be sure that your aspirations are in tune with your skills and aptitude. That person will also suggest the different ways to raise loans to fulfill your ambitions. But nothing is worth taking your life for. Your anger is making you have headaches and if it is not dealt with soon, you could end up depressed. Don’t be so rigid. Negotiate everything. There is always a way, if you are flexible.

Hello Mam. 2 days back you had advised me to give my brother Becosules cap for 5 days and SM fibro tab for one month (but instead of SM Fibro I have given him Lycopene cap coz that medicines was not available in the medical shop. N I have said him to do exercise with ice cream sticks n blowing balloons n he is doing everything n now the results are good. Before only 9 sticks used to go in his mouth but today 16 sticks are inserting in his mouth. So I was asking should I continue wit Becosules cap and lycopene cap? N instead of giving lycopene cap should I start giving him SM Fibre Coz may be now it is available. N now he even quit smoking n gutka 10 days has been over he dint evn touched gutka n smoking.

Dear Iffath, Congratulations to you and your friend for quitting gutkha and smoking. Find out how much he has saved so for by quitting it. Calculate the amount to 3 months and ask him what he wants as a gift for that amount. Please continue to motivate him for 3 months at least to stop both gutkha and smoking. If he has any withdrawal symptoms he can take replacement for next 12 weeks in decreasing quantities. Tell him stopping them gave full opening of mouth in 10 days itself. Further more benefits will come. Both the tablets are only supportive. Quitting is the treatment. All the best.

My brother had distorted thoughts and was in a depressing state last month and we consulted the psychiatrist. She diagnosed him to be suffering from psychotic disorder but thankfully this is at a very initial stage. She also prescribed medicines risnia and dicorate for a week initially and then eventually for a month once a day. With medicines he became fine. Cud also have sound sleep and remained happy. Our parents and I supported him throughout, also took him out every other day for movies or dining out, etc. She also advised us to consult a psychologist for counselling. However within 2-3 sessions we found that the counselling was a waste of time since this psychologist was only giving general knowledge to my brother. Though one month of medicine is over. My brother has continuously been complaining of mild pain in his head, especially in his temple area. Do we need to again visit the psychiatrist or should we consult a neurosurgeon? We at home are confused right now, what to do?

1. Consult a psychiatrist on a regular basis and get all investigations including medical, neurological etc. So that in future to avoid any kind of relapse if it occurs. 2. A clinical psychologist's role in such cases is generally to psycho educate patient or family members (as you said psychologist was just giving general knowledge) as psychotic disorders are considered chronic mental illness therefore medications are the first line of prescriptions to deal with this. 3. As part of your role and other family members is more crucial here and I appreciate that you have supported him and this is good way to overcome and better management of his problem. 4. Consult a neurologist for headache and get all investigations done for this.

Dear Lybrate User Getting involved into a sexual relationship with your partner is completely a couples decision. You both are adults and mature enough to take up decisions. Just remember that take your decision wisely as every decision will bring it's own consequences. If you made up a choice then also be prepared to handle it's repercussions. As partners you both need to talk to each other about each other worries and concerns. You both need to discuss about important ingredients of a relationship. Physical intimacy is important in a relationship but it's not the only thing that builds up the relationship. Both partners need to understand each other's priorities and needs. They need to value each other's decisions too. So have a dialogue with your partner. Lastly but very important thing is to discuss things with a gynaecologist. Take proper guidance from her. Clarify all your queries regarding your body with her. If you wish, you can also take your partner along when visiting or discussing things with her. All the best.

Hello sir, i'm student. I read more but I can't remember anything. Pl tell me what should I do for better memory power?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd

There are other factors to take into consideration too because of your age. A lot of the reason may be true because of the age alone, and a little stress perhaps. I suspect that you are going through a spurt in the production of the male sex hormone, which affects you in three ways quite unknown to you. First, there will be a sexual agenda that it will kick off, secondly, there will be aggressiveness and rebelliousness, and thirdly, you will suffer from acne and pimple problems. This is the effect of the hormone that has a duration of almost two years and you will have no control over it. But if you have a good value system you will tide over this phase without significant damage. The hormonal imbalances may not only impact your memory because of the chemical but also bring along some distractions that come with it. But you may work on the following even if the hormones kick in: Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, consume less of fat and use olive or coconut oil instead, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning at least five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There are some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that you and the family go for counseling too. The following foods do help too: Blueberries, walnuts, turmeric, Spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, acorn squash, green tea, oily fish, boiled egg, turkey, apples, oatmeal, leafy greens, lentils, pumpkin seeds, avocado, cinnamon, thyme, sunflower seeds, and red wine.

Dear, socially accepted sexual practices and socially unaccepted sexual practices exist in the same society. Your case socially unaccepted. That never means you are doing something wrong. There are many areas where we do not do or restrict our self from doing something which is socially unacceptable. In this case too, you have to restrict yourself. Please do not be anxious about it, but you should restrict. Take care.

You will need to ascertain whether it is depression or not when you say 'kind of feeling'. At your age this claim is serious. If you have depression then there are some major ramifications to take into account. I believe there may be some genetic predisposition or there has been some childhood issue, related to anger, that needs urgent attention. You must go and meet with a counselor immediately and if that person advises that you meet with a doctor you must do so and cooperate to your utmost. Please visit these professionals along with your parents. In the meantime please do the following sincerely because you could resolve the problem better with good cooperation: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least, 30 minutes but not in the scorching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. Don’t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, you need to live in love and for love. Learn all about emotions and how to handle them and that will get you out of the depression rather easily and quickly. A counselor is there only to facilitate you, all the hard word must come from you, and your cooperation with that person is very critical for your success. Be positive every day and learn to be contented with what you have. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. Whatever happens please cooperate with the therapy and do not discontinue until the condition is completely resolved.

Dear Lybrate user. Since you have tried various pharmacotherapy with no desired results, you better resort to psychotherapy and counseling along with yoga therapy. A psychotherapeutic technique called CBT and Yogic techniques like breathing exercises and pranayam methods could be very fruitful for anxiety issues. But it should be tailored to the need of the affected person. Find such kind of specialists in your nearest location or contact me for further guidance, becs I have a good deal of experience in these areas.

More than the doctors you would be the best person to identify his cause of depression, talk to him, more as a friend than as a parent, let him do activities which he enjoys, any fruit to be born on a tree requires, patience care love and support from the gardener, children may not ask for help, but you have to be there to give him, share your experiences, if required take help of a councellor.

Schizophrenia is a very complex and difficult disease to treat, even with medication. All psychotropic medicines have side-effects: that is inescapable. But I suspect that you are depending entirely on medication when in reality you need to combine it with counseling or therapy. In therapy you will learn a lot of coping mechanisms and techniques to remain functional and lead a close-to-normal life. You will also learn about emotions and how they can impact your condition adversely. Expressing emotions in an appropriate manner will equip you for life. Talking and sharing about the the many disturbing thoughts and learning to understand yourself and moderate your responses will go a long way towards normalizing and training your mind. Exercise must be a regular part of your life for various reasons. Put yourself on a productive and strict schedule. The idle mind is the devil's workshop for sure, and more so for a schizophrenic.
