Hello sir, Please advice natural remedies to increase mild hearing power or exercise?
Yoga is known and widely practiced for its wide variety of health benefits. Thankfully, there are yoga exercises that help with your hearing too! The main goal of these exercises is to increase circulation in your ear and your brain, since increased circulation helps improve nerve functions and removes waste and toxins. Yoga poses that help with circulation include the tree pose, lotus pose, cobra pose, and triangle pose. Yoga can also help with tinnitus, and there are many videos. YouTube that teach poses and postures for specific health benefits.

My father is 84 years old and having multiple disease conditions: He suffers from severe anxiety. He gets tensed in very simple incidents of life and thinks a lot about all simple incidents which we in general do not give much attention to. He also suffers from hypertension. Severe hearing loss with damage of tympanic membrane and infection in one ear. Severe spondylitis with disc degeneration and nerve compression with back pain from the same. Painful leg due to sciatica. Blind from glaucoma in right eye and age related macular degeneration in the left eye. Tendency of prostate enlargement, and pain and burning with urination at least twice a year. He also suffers from GI ailments like gas, indigestion, and very soft stools every now and then. Due to his frail and weak physic, we mostly try to avoid any allopathy medications sans emergency situations. For a long period of time, he is taking essentia area once a day and viscum pentarkan once a day. For the last few weeks he is also taking alfalfa tonic. Presently, his blood pressure is mostly normal or very little above normal. I would like to know what should be my approach to his treatment? What medicine regimen should he follow? I would also like to know if there is any medications that can arrest the progression of age related macular degeneration. And if there is any medication to arrest his hearing loss. He seems to get disturbed mostly by the fact that he is gradually losing his vision and listening ability. Thanks

Actually you need to consult a rehabilitation physician in your nearby area, as this case has multiple problems and needs proper rehabilitation. All these problems are inter-linked and solving one problem can cure another one. Adding any type of drug (allopathic or non-allopathic) will add to more problems. While I was in aiims, new delhi, I have seen many cases like this, in which solving a single problem cures many problems. Consult me in private. Do not worry, we can solve problem.

She will need a detailed evaluation to determine the cause of her hearing problem. following that she will need to be on observation to look for deterioration in her hearing status. if the diagnosis of sensorineural deafness is correct she is likely to benefit from hearing aids. that should not be a problem - people move around with glasses, walking sticks, artificial knees etc - using a hearing aid is hardly considered a stigma in modern society. she will benefit greatly, will be able to hear and understand better so she will become a better student. her quality of life will be much better. for any further detail you can call up my clinic in delhi for an appointment - 011-26140058. warm regards

Cochlear implant is advised to people who cannot benefit with hearing aid. If the auditory nerve is functioning then only it is advised. So an ent doctor will guide you correctly. 28 years is the correct age.

First step is to get an ent checkup next to get a hearing test done and it is the audiologist who will try different hearing aida and then take your earcanal size and fit the hearing aids according to your response. Now if the dealers have employed an audiologist it may be a part of their business.

Conductive Hearing Loss - How It Can Be Treated?

MS - ENT
ENT Specialist, Guwahati
Conductive Hearing Loss - How It Can Be Treated?

The ear has three parts – outer, middle, and inner – through which sounds waves pass through. On reaching the inner ear, the sound waves are transmitted through a fluid medium which is carried through to the brain to produce “sound.” Hearing loss can be due to problems anywhere in this circuit – from the outer ear to nerve issues in the middle ear.

There are two main types of hearing loss
Conductive hearing loss, where problems in the outer or middle ear cause problem conducting sound waves into the inner ear
Sensorineural hearing loss, where there is a problem in the nervous portion of the hearing process

Causes

Conductive hearing loss occurs due to poor conduction of sound waves to the middle ear, where it is processed to perceive the sound. Conductive hearing loss can happen due to the following reasons:

  1. Wax: Excessive wax accumulated in the outer ear can prevent passage of sound into the middle ear
  2. Infection: The outer or middle ear could be infected, affecting passage of sound waves
  3. Tear in the eardrum: The eardrum is a membrane through which sound waves pass. A tear due to trauma or injury can hamper this process, leading to hearing loss.
  4. Impact: When there is a bang on the head, there could be temporary hearing loss due to disruption of the hearing system
  5. Hereditary: A lot of times, hearing loss is hereditary and an exact cause may not be traceable
  6. Ear tumor: Middle ear tumors can also cause conductive hearing loss
  7. Abnormal growth: Abnormal bone growth in the middle ear can cause blockage, leading to hearing loss
  8. Post-surgical: The ear is a highly complex structure, and while surgical corrections are being done to treat a condition, it is very likely that other parts can be damaged

Symptoms

In most of the conditions mentioned above, there are some sound waves which pass through, so conductive hearing loss is often partial, wherein the person can hear but it is faint. Very rarely, it is complete where the person goes completely deaf.

Management

This would depend on the cause of the hearing loss.

  1. Clearing up the wax can lead to improved hearing
  2. A tear in the eardrum or fluid buildup would need surgical repair to restore hearing
  3. Infections might require treatment with antibiotics and pain killers
  4. Tumors or bone growths would also require surgical correction for restoring hearing
  5. For outer ear blocks, audiometry is done only after the blocks are cleared
  6. If post correction, the hearing is not completely restored, hearing aids can be used, which often results in complete restoration. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an Ent Specialist.

Tips to achieve happiness:

Take care of your body. Be conscious about what you eat and drink. Learn to listen to your body. Make sure you consume foods that will help your physical, mental and emotional being. You can seek professional guidance. Also, the internet offers a myriad of trusted information. Pray and exercise as well.

Develop meaningful relationships. It is extremely beneficial for you to cultivate three key relationships, one with a person who is older and wiser than you - someone you can trust and enjoy listening to and learning from, then build a friendship with a person of your own age that you can relate to, and also find a mentor that is younger than you to get new perspectives. Having these three types of relationships will provide you with a healthy support system.

Have an attitude of gratitude. Being grateful can have a positive impact in your life and in the life of those around you. There are three areas that benefit you from being grateful: your attitude, health and relationships. Gratitude can help you overcome challenges and suffering. The positive thinking produced by your gratitude has proven health benefits like reducing stress levels, strengthening your immune system, combating depression and it also helps you cope better with adversities in life. Additionally, as humans, we are naturally social and interacting and communicating with others is vital; when you show your genuine gratitude to people you care about, you will create a stronger bond and will thrive together.

There is no treatment apart from hearing aid for hearing loss. You should also evaluate the cause of her hearing loss.
