Know Everything About Hair Transplant And Its Procedures!!

Know Everything About Hair Transplant And Its Procedures!!

Many men and women suffer from baldness these days and in order to conceal it, look for options available in the market. Though there are many temporary solutions, the most permanent & natural solution today is hair transplantation.

What is Hair Transplantation?
Hair transplantation is broadly achieved by removing hair grafts/follicles from the back of the head which are more resistant to hormonal changes and placing them in areas of scanty growth or baldness. There are two methods to remove the grafts – Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE).

In FUT method, a strip of scalp is cut out from the back of the head and is dissected into individual grafts.

FUE method of hair transplantation involves taking the individual follicular units/grafts from the back of the head one by one by cutting around it through a tiny specialised machine(punch) and removing them. The process is tedious and takes a few hours but is painless after a few numbing injections are given.

The rest of the procedure remains the same in both techniques. Micro-slits are created using very fine blades or needles in the balding areas after numbing them with local anaesthetic injections. Hair grafts are then inserted in the sites on the front of the head or wherever there is hair loss

Both methods are done under local anaesthesia making them essentially painless.

Advantages of FUT method

  1. Larger areas of baldness can be covered in fewer sittings.

  2. The recovery time is much quicker with the patient often returning to work the next day itself.

  3. The transection rate (the roots that get cut while separating them) is lesser providing superior results. (However, it depends on the skill of the surgeon and his/her staff.)

Advantages of FUE method

  1. As this method of hair transplantation does not involve taking an entire strip of scalp from the back of the head like in strip surgery, there are no cuts or stitches.

  2. There is no linear scar.

Both methods involve surgery hence a proper consultation with the surgeon is required who can explain the procedure and its advantages and disadvantages. It takes several hours to perform the surgery and implant hence it is important to block the day out completely and be mentally prepared for it. Most surgeons will want to shave the entire head before embarking on the procedure so make sure that you factor that in.

Post-surgery care
It is important to follow post-surgery instructions and take good care of the grafts. Swelling of the scalp & face is common for few days (usually stay for 3 days). You will be on antibiotics & pain medicine for couple of days and will be asked to use Minoxidil and Finasteride.

The grafts are wetted with saline repeatedly for a few days after the transplant. Hair is washed with a diluted shampoo the next day in a specific manner without disturbing the grafts. They will eventually fall out after two weeks and the new growth will start appearing at three months. In FUT method, post-op wound care of the scar is important and the sutures are removed after a week.

Who should opt for FUT method?

  1. People who have larger areas of baldness.

  2. People who would like to get the procedure done in a single sitting.

Who should go in for FUE method?

  1. Suitable for people who have smaller areas of baldness.

  2. People who want to wear shorter hair styles.

  3. People with active lifestyles like sportsmen, etc.

  4. Women with smaller areas of baldness.

  5. People who prefer less invasive procedures and don’t want cuts, stitches on the scalp.

Dear sir, I got stroke two years ago. One was on 29.04.14 (thalamic infarct) and the other was on 7.10.14 (cerebral infarct). Now, can I term those two as two separate strokes. I do not have hypertension, no cholesterol, nothing of any sort. Doctor has quoted me saying Antithrombin III deficiency. Now, I want to know whether there is any cure as I have fear of recurrence. Kindly guide me.

Dear sir, I got stroke two years ago. One was on 29.04.14 (thalamic infarct) and the other was on 7.10.14 (cerebral i...
Antithrombin III (ATIII) is a nonvitamin K-dependent protease that inhibits coagulation by lysing thrombin and factor Xa. Antithrombin III activity is markedly potentiated by heparin, the principal mechanism by which both heparin and low molecular weight heparin result in anticoagulation. Congenital antithrombin III deficiency is an autosomal dominant disorder in which an individual inherits one copy of the SERPINC1 (also called AT3) gene on chromosome 1q25. 1, which encodes antithrombin III. This condition leads to increased risk of venous and arterial thrombosis, with an onset of clinical manifestations typically appearing in young adulthood. This form is most commonly diagnosed during childhood by screening after an affected family member has been identified or after a child has had a thrombotic event. Severe congenital antithrombin III deficiency, in which the individual inherits 2 defective genes, is a rare autosomal recessive condition associated with increased thrombogenesis, typically noted in the neonatal period or early infancy. This condition is rarely compatible with life. Most neonates have heterozygous antithrombin III deficiency. Acquired antithrombin III deficiency is a deficiency of antithrombin primarily due to consumption. It is observed in situations in which activation of the coagulation system is abnormal. Common conditions that result in acquired antithrombin III deficiency include disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), microangiopathic hemolytic anemias due to endothelial damage (ie, hemolytic-uremic syndrome), and venoocclusive disease (VOD) in patients undergoing bone marrow transplantation. Replacement of antithrombin in neonates with antithrombin III deficiency to treat lung disease has been studied and found to have no benefit. Antithrombin infusion in otherwise asymptomatic neonates found to be deficient is not recommended. Enoxaparin (Lovenox), a low molecular weight heparin (LMWH), is frequently used to prevent thrombi as well as to prevent thrombi that have already occurred from propagating. In antithrombin III deficiency, the activity of LMWH is not as reliable as in an otherwise healthy person. Careful monitoring of the anti-Xa activity in the patient should be performed. Consider alternative anticoagulation medications (eg, warfarin) because the effectiveness of LMWH is likely reduced. Once a patient with congenital antithrombin III deficiency has developed thrombosis, anticoagulation is more strongly indicated. Replacement with recombinant antithrombin is not indicated for the treatment of thrombi. Warfarin (Coumadin) is the principal anticoagulant used. This vitamin K antagonist is administered at a dose to maintain an international normal ratio (INR) on PT of 1.5-2.5. Initially, therapy with LMWH or standard heparin may be administered to decrease the risk of warfarin-associated thrombosis (warfarin-induced skin necrosis) resulting from the inhibition of protein C production, which may occur before inhibition of the synthesis of vitamin K–dependent procoagulant factors (II, VII, IX, X) is reduced adequately for anticoagulation.

Hello, as you are suffering from psoriasis, psoriasis is genetic disorder triggered due to stressful conditions and irregular life style. Psoriasis is a manageable disease, generally patient use steroidal application on patches which give temporary relief and disease reappear after 2/3 days. In severe cases methotrexate is used which is not a safer option and is liver toxic. Ayurvedic external application give very quick results with sun exposure in clearing the scales and internal treatment does not allow the disease to re appear. I have a problem of pimples. Last 4 years I used many medicine and cream but no effect What I do to remove it?

BHMS
Homeopath,
I have a problem of pimples.
Last 4 years I used many medicine and cream but no effect
What I do to remove it?
Dear lybrate user, pimples/ acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory skin disease which develops due to blocking of the hair follicles in skin. These blockages occur due to 4 abnormal processes: 1) excess sebum production due to androgens 2) excessive deposition of the protein keratin leading to comedone formation 3) infection of propionibacterium acnes (p. Acnes) bacteria on the hair follicles 4) local release of pro-inflammatory chemicals in the skin. Neither can you stop the overproduction of androgen or keratin protein nor can you stop the release of pro-inflammatory chemicals because all these processes takes place internally in your skin. However you can stop the accumulation of p. Acnes bacteria on your skin by preventing your skin from getting oily. Always keep a handkerchief with you wherever you go outside. You should wipe off the slightest amount of sweat from your face as soon as you perspire on entering your room from outside wash your face with an oil-free, non-moisturizing face wash. Take a low carbohydrate diet. Do some exercise daily. Drink a lots of water to avoid constipation. Avoid pricking the pimples or popping the sebum as it may lead to black pigmentation & permanent scar formation. You can also take homoeopathic calcarea phos 200, 5 drops, thrice daily, in empty stomach also you can apply homoeopathic mother tincture berberis aquifolium q on the dark spots on your skin which are produced after the resolution of the pimples.

Hi. There are four main factors which causes acne: Oil production Dead skin cells Clogged pores Bacteria Factors that may worsen the acne: Androgen hormones, certain medications (drugs containing corticosteroids, androgens or lithium can worsen acne), dietary factors, including dairy products and carbohydrate-rich foods — such as bread, bagels and chips — may trigger acne and Stress can make acne worse. Management: Wash your face with Bakson's Facewash (wash your face with warm water only) and followed by CTMP, i.e., cleansing, toning, moisturising and protection (apply liberally Sunscreen Gel with SPF-30) after washing your face daily. Home-made remedies: - Take 1 tbsp of fuller's earth (multani mitti) + a dash of lime + bit of rosewater – apply this on your face till it gets dried up, then rinse it off. - Take 1 tsp of Alum (or fitkari), make it slightly wet with water and apply this on your wet face, spread it well; let it dry and rinse it off. Alum remove your excessive moisture or oil and it also tightens the skin's tonicity. Medication: You can take homoeopathic medicines – Berberis Aquefolium Q/ 10 drops in 1/2 cup of water/ thrice a day (and for local application as well) and Kali Brom. 200/ thrice a day – for 20 days. Use Bakson's Apricot scrub at least once a week on your nose.

For pimples it's important to wash your face twice daily to remove impurities, dead skin cells, and extra oil from your skin's surface, avoid touching your face or propping your cheek or chin on your hands. Not only can you spread bacteria, you can also irritate the already inflamed facial skin. Never pick or pop pimples with your fingers, as it can lead to infection and scarring. A dietary therapy for pimples can also help a lot. I am a registered dietitian and a doctor who will help you in your skin problems reply back for private consultation.

It is not advisable to take this medicine. Insulin resistance is the main reason why its more challenging for you to lose weight with pcos for pcos & thyroid people it takes time to reduce weight, so don't worry, do regular exercise especially cardio and make dietary changes it will help you. Take proper diet without skipping meals, including green vegetables, fruits, dairy products. Fruit is rich in fiber and is a good source of essential vitamins and minerals. Fruits with a low gi include cherries, plums, apricots, prunes and grapes.
