My baby is going to be 3 month old soon. And I have to go back to work. Can I start solid or weaning food for her as I don't want to give her formula milk. I can manage to breastfeed her only once or twice.

Till 6 months not advisable to go towards semisolid feed. For working mother advisable to go for formula feeds or top milk in form of cow milk with added sugar. Word of caution here is, no feed is superior than breast feeds in first 6 months of age of an infant.

My child is 17 months old, he has got a vomiting problem. Even if he' s got a normal fever, he vomits several times a day. Even in coughing, he vomits several times a day. In a simple problem like crying, irritation, normal fever, teething problem, runny nose, he vomits several times a day. We diagnose him and medicine works but after few days, again same problem. What may be the reason? how to diagnose him better? is there any problem with his intestines? please advice.

Pediatrician, Pune
If there is frequent vomiting since birth / early infancy, as you have described he may be having gastroesophageal reflux, if his weight gain is not appropriate for his age ~8-10 kg, he may need evaluation for his recurrent vomiting, a milk scan which detects gastroesophageal reflux, usg abdomen may be the initial investigations to be done to find his cause of recurrent vomiting

Children never starve themselves unlike adults, she may be eating lot of junk foods- biscuits and juices and chips etc that she is not eating what you want her to eat. Cut down on all the junk/ intermittent snacks and see that she eats when its family time to eat.

Normally maximum brain growth occurs till the age of 2 years. Hence blood supply will be more to the head. This is the reason for the head to be warm in this age.

My grand son completed 4 months but sleeps for 5 hours in night and during day two to three hour. D. Whether it is ok.

Ideally at this age, he should be sleeping much longer. But there are individual variations and this may well be accepted. Your grandson's history need to be examined in order to comment well.

My daughter age is 4+.I have done stool test there it has mentioned reducing sugar - present (trace) what does this mean?

MBBS, MD
Pediatrician, Gurgaon
It doesn't have any significance. If child have diarrhoea with loss of weight, than you are suppose to reduce milk and milk products in diet. But trace have no significance and it doesn't Warren any precaution.

Which milk supplement is good for kids? Junior horlicks/lil champs/pediasure/horlicks growth plus or any others.
As such if a child is having normal indian food then there is no need of a supplement at all but if child is not eating properly then first approach should be towards proper eating habits and not just to give supplements bcz no supplement can give you proper nutrition still if you want to give then they all have different nutritive value and you can give them alternatively.

My new born baby is unable to take breast feeding. He is 17 days old. When he born oxyzen is not reached properly in his mind. So doctor take him in NICU for 15 days. The child come home from hospital. But he is unable to take mother breast feed. Please help me.

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), F.I.A.M.S. (Pediatrics)
Pediatrician, Muzaffarnagar
You have not mentioned birth wt. however, your appears premature born by about 8 weeks and could not breath just after birth necessiating him to keep in NICU. If mother's nipples are normal and baby is able to suck, go on keeping him on breast for some time and then give him breast expressed milk with spoon. If it does not work, consult pediatrician particularly for neurologial assessment too.

ADHD in Adults

Concentration problems and trouble in focusing on one task at a time can be termed as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD, in rare and severe cases. While most of the cases are identified in one's childhood, it has been seen that many cases persist into adulthood while still others go completely undiagnosed. This mental health disorder comes with a number of symptoms and management methods. Read on to know more.

  • Symptoms: While many patients suffering from this disorder may not display any obvious symptoms at a young age as children are supposed to be brimming with energy, the symptoms for adult ADHD, start to show up in a more obvious fashion. Wavering concentration and low levels of focus along with disorganised living with impulsiveness are the first signs of adult ADHD. Such adults also have trouble when it comes to finishing one task at a time, or even focusing on a task for a prolonged period of time. Bouts of impatience and excessive activity can also show up as symptoms, while restlessness is a quality that most of these patients seem to possess.
  • Diagnosis: The diagnosis of this condition is slightly difficult because most adults may complain of some or the other symptoms related to this condition at some point in their lives. Anxiety and mood swing related symptoms can help in diagnosing the condition in a better manner. If the condition ends up disrupting your normal life, work, socialising and behaviour in general, then you may want to see a doctor regarding the same, so that proper diagnosis may take place.
  • Causes: While genetic predisposition is said to be the foremost cause of this condition, especially when it continues well into adulthood, there are various environmental factors that may also have a significant bearing on the onset of the condition. Exposure as a child increases the risk of falling prey to this condition. Also, when there are problems with the central nervous system during the developing years, the patient may start to develop symptoms connected with this disorder later on.
  • Treatment: Stimulants and other medication like anti-depressants, nonstimulant amphetamine are also used for treating this condition along with therapy and psychological counselling for better organisation in life.

My baby has chest congestion. The doc advised to give him. Steam thru vaporizer. I have bought sodium chloride injection along with Levolin, but do not know how to use it. Do I need to add water to vaporizer in order to make sufficient steam? Confused.

As advised by doctor, you can give steam through vapourizer carefully. But plain steam. And do not let your baby go very close to the vapouriser. Sodium chloride with levolin is for nebulization, not vapourizer. It is not advisable to give nebulization for kids without supervision of a doctor. If nebulization has been advised, take your child to nearby hospital or clinic and give it. Hope this helped you!

My one year old baby girl have too much problem of digestion . She is eating very less her weight is just 7.800 kg. When she eat some what proper then vomiting at the time of eating done. .Dont know what to do. .

MBBS, DNB (Pediatrics)

7.8kg at 1 year is quite low for her age. It could be plain regurgitation or something more sinister. Before coming to conclusion more information will be needed. Consult a pediatrician or u can send private questions.
