I had protected sex on 13 march and I got my periods on 19 march. Now periods are delayed. I did pelvis usg and reports said that you have bilateral polycystic ovarian changes. Doctor asked me to do blood test like glucose, s.tsh, s.prolactin. I had regestrone tablets twice a day for three days coz I wanted my periods to come. I did not had any sex after last periods. I did upt too on the 8th day of missed period and it is negative. How and when will I get my periods? Please say.

I would advice you to do a serum B-Hcg which is a blood test to be very sure you are not pregnant. Then continue with regesterone tablets twice a day for 7 days. Wait for 7-10 days after stopping the tablet. Periods should usually come. If not see your Gynaecologist back to prescribe an alternative medicine. PCO is known to delay and cause irregular periods. So this will need long term treatment.

Dear user. Pain during intercourse (dyspareunia) is pain or discomfort in a woman's labial, vaginal, or pelvic areas during or immediately following sexual intercourse. Treatment depends on the cause of dyspareunia: If vaginal dryness is the problem, you can ease penetration and sexual intercourse with increased clitoral stimulation before intercourse or lubrication with an over-the-counter lubricant such as K-Y jelly, Replens or Astroglide. Do consult a gynecologist for diagnosis and treatment. Take care.

Is fibroadenoma will change to breast cancer? Is fibroadenoma gives back & shoulder pain? Please answer me.
Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help. Well, if its a simple fibroadenoma, the risk of breast cancer is slightly higher than those of women with no breast changes. For complex fibroadenoma, however, the risk of breast cancer is slightly more than that in case of simple fibroadenoma. Fibroadenoma would not cause any back/ shoulder pain. Hope this clarifies. Menstrual cycle can be disturbed if you have an imbalance of the hormones oestrogen and progesterone. It's not unusual to have a hormone imbalance for a few years after puberty and before the menopause. This can cause your menstrual cycle to become longer or shorter. Your periods may also become lighter or heavier. Lifestyle The following lifestyle factors can also upset your balance of hormones and cause irregular bleeding: • extreme weight loss or weight gain • excessive exercise • stress Polycystic ovary syndrome Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) occurs when very small cysts (small, fluid-filled sacs) develop in the ovaries. The usual symptoms of PCOS are irregular or light periods or no periods at all. This is because, in women with PCOS, ovulation (the release of an egg) may not take place as often as normal. The production of hormones may also be unbalanced, and you could have higher levels of testosterone than normal. Testosterone is a male hormone that women usually have a small amount of. Thyroid disorders A thyroid disorder is another possible, but rare, cause of irregular periods. The thyroid gland, found in the neck, produces hormones that maintain the body's metabolism (the chemical processes your body uses to turn food into energy). Your Doctor may test for a thyroid problem by taking a blood test to check levels of thyroid hormones in your blood. Anaemia Iron deficiency due to improper diet intake can ometimes lead to irregular periods. So a thorough phyical examination is required regarding the weight History,Menstrual history,Dietary habits and any life tyle change that tookplace in her life.Only then we can reach to a diagnosis and can start a treatment for that particular problem

Ipill needs to be taken aftrr every unprotected sex. So if you havr taken it twice then there is no risk at all. Period shift is normal when you take ipill. In case you have not taken it after second intrrcourse chances depends on the day you did .usually 10-16 days aftrr start of you period is high probbable days for conceiving. So if you hvnt done unprotected sex in these days then again you are safe. Sometimes we feel ejaculation did not happen but there is involuntary discharge n pre cum which also has some sperm. If you miss periods by 7 or more days then check with pregnancy kit. Consult for further education.

NST is non stress test also known as cardiotopography Normal values indicate that the fetus is not in distress by showing a fetal heart rate between 120 and 160 beats per minute. A variability of 5 - 25 beats per minute from the baseline (normal) fetal heart rate may occur. The fetal heart rate may drop slightly during a contraction, since placental blood supply is diminished under the compression of a uterine contraction. This is normal as long as the fetal heart rate recovers quickly once the contraction has stopped. Baby presentation is done at 32 wks, normal presentation is cephalic please tell years gestational period.

Vitamin D Supplements - Are They Required During Pregnancy?

FICOG, FICMCH, FIMSA, MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Delhi
Vitamin D Supplements - Are They Required During Pregnancy?

Vitamin D and pregnancy hand in hand go together. Expecting mothers need ensure they get the recommended amounts of Vitamin D during pregnancy for the healthy development of the baby as well as their own well-being.

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin obtained mostly from consuming fortified milk or juice, fish oils, and dietary supplements. It also is produced in the skin by exposure to sunlight. Vitamin D which is ingested or produced in the skin must undergo hydroxylation in the liver and kidney to promote absorption of calcium from the gut to enable normal bone mineralization and growth. Severe maternal Vitamin D deficiency has been associated with congenital rickets and disordered skeletal homeostasis coupled with fractures in the new-born during pregnancy.  Vitamin D is necessary for the metabolism and absorption of phosphorus and calcium. Many studies are finding a connection between low serum vitamin D levels and an increased risk of certain types of autoimmune disease, cancers, insulin resistance, neurological disease and cardiovascular disease.

Latest studies have shown that Vitamin D deficiency is common during pregnancy especially among women residing in northern latitudes, living in cold climates or wear sun and winter protective clothing and ethnic minorities, especially those with darker skin. As the Vitamin D level of new-born is largely dependent on maternal Vitamin D status, the infants of mothers with vitamin D deficiency are also at risk of Vitamin D deficiency. Inadequate vitamin D can lead to abnormal bone growth, fractures, or rickets in new-borns.  Deficiency of vitamin D leads to a higher risk of pregnancy complications like gestational diabetes, premature birth and low birth weight.

The symptoms of a vitamin D deficiency include aching muscles, bone pain, and softened bones leading to fractures. Fish liver oil, fatty fish, and eggs are excellent food source for Vitamin D. It is difficult to get sufficient vitamin D from food, which makes it necessary to have Vitamin D supplements. Since the skin uses the sun's rays to produce vitamin D, limited sun exposure is recommended. Exposure to the sun's ultraviolet rays intensifies the pigment changes causing skin darkening in pregnant women. Thus, most doctors endorse that pregnant women protect themselves from the sun and get their vitamin D from supplements. The average prenatal vitamin contains 400 IU of vitamin D, which makes it imperative that additional supplements should be taken. The significant compounds for human development are D2 and D3. The best way to really ensure adequate vitamin D is through simple supplementation. Ergocalciferol is the vegetarian form of vitamin D whereas cholecalciferol is the animal-sourced form, derived from fish liver oil or lanolin from sheep.

I got married in my age 40 to a 50 year widower who had two wonderful teenage kids in the year Nov, 2014. This is my first marriage n I clearly mentioned him that I will take care of your kids like a mother but I too want just one kid because I don't want to miss my process of motherhood. He too agreed for this condition. Actually I love kids and get connected to kids very fast. Now my husband is escaping telling various reasons n from his point may be he is right, but these two years I tried my best to delete this issue of begetting a child emotionally from my mind becoz I too know it's already late to have a child in my middle age. But till this moment I am failing to convince myself n the ache of conceiving is becoming more in my heart since these kids r good but they do not call me as Amma n that triggers me more to have my own child n because for any lady she prefers to have a child to call her Amma and a child affection to a mother is a beautiful experience which I am missing now. My husband is a very nice person in every way so I don't want to hurt him constantly in this issue at the same time I am really in pain not to express to anybody my emotional longing for a child. I consulted a gynecologist just to check up whether I am fit to conceive n the result was positive n the Doctor told she will support me medically in all possible ways n nothing to worry. This also I said to my husband but whenever I open this talk he is silent n escape to give a prompt reply n I understand he understands my feelings but he has other fears like facing his parents n society. But I feel like a failure now I compromised many things in life but my question is why should I compromise this issue which I considered important for any married lady. I am physically fit n healthy till now. Now my age is 42 n husband is 51 and my husband is a balanced diabetic. My mind is not able to b silent n in tears, so what is your advice regarding my intense desire of having a child on my own. I have nobody to share or advise on this path. I have no parents to seek guidance now. I request the respective psychologist to throw light on my severe conflict which spoils my peace. Expecting your advice to heal myself. Thanking you.

One major ting to be borne in mind is it is risky to be pregnant after the age pf 40 even if your gyno will support you. Second, if you can treat those children as your own your mind should be happy. Both of yu may see a psychologist or marriage counsellor Or you can talk to me by consultation in this site and I am from kerala as you are.
