How can gestational hypertension affect your health and baby's?

MBBS
General Physician, Hyderabad
How can gestational hypertension affect your health and baby's?
It depends on how far along you are in pregnancy when you develop gestational hypertension and how high your blood pressure gets. The more severe your hypertension and the earlier in pregnancy it appears, the greater your risk for problems.

The good news is that most women who get gestational hypertension have only a mild form of the condition and don't develop it until near term (37 weeks or later). If you're in this category, you still have a somewhat higher risk of being induced or having a c-section, but other than that, you and your baby are likely to do as well as you would if you had normal blood pressure.

However, about 1 in 4 women with gestational hypertension go on to develop preeclampsia during pregnancy or labor, or soon after giving birth. And you have a 50 percent chance of getting preeclampsia if you develop gestational hypertension before 30 weeks.

Having gestational hypertension also puts you at increased risk for a number of other pregnancy complications, including intrauterine growth restriction, preterm birth, placental abruption, and stillbirth. Because of these risks, your caregiver will monitor you and your baby carefully.

My husband has obstruction issue with sperms. Which one is better to go for, IVF or surgery for blockage.

My husband has obstruction issue with sperms. Which one is better to go for, IVF or surgery for blockage.
It depends where the obstruction is. If it is in the spermatic cord, recanalization can be tried. Otherwise go for ivf collecting sperm directly from the testis.

How to Get Rid of Bunions Completely Naturally

PGD IN ULTRAASONOGRAPHY, Non invasive cardiology course, MD - Medicine, MBBS
General Physician, Narnaul
How to Get Rid of Bunions Completely Naturally

For those who don't know, bunions are salt buildups caused by an inflammation in the body or by wearing tight and uncomfortable shoes. Statistically speaking, women are more prone to them than men, even though the male population also suffers from this health issue.

Hence, although they're not necessarily painful, they do influence the quality of a person's life. That is, they're definitely unattractive and a real obstacle for finding the right shoes. One solution is surgery. However, if you don't want to go under the knife, you can always try out a more alternative approach.

Painlessly, this remedy will solve your bunion problems once and for all and you will successfully restore the normal shape of your feet.

The recipe

Needed:
300 ml of water
A tbsp of crushed bay leaves

Preparation:
First, boil the leaves for 5 minutes and then put them into a thermos. Leave the content overnight and strain it in the morning.

Use:
Drink the tea in small sips during the entire day. Repeat the procedure for a whole week.

Important to know:
During this period, your urge for urination will significantly increase. Don't worry, as this is an indicator that the salt deposits are dissolving properly and are stimulating the bladder.

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. It appears that you are having diabetes. In that case it is absolutely essential to have a very strict blood glucose control both for having conception and through out the pregnancy. Please also get your Thyroid assay done (TSH value should be around 2 mU/L). If blood glucose is not well controlled (between 90 to 120 mg /100 ml) during pregnancy then outcomes can be unpredictable or bad. So please achieve a strict blood glucose control. Then go for the pregnancy. If you have any doubts please come back. Thanks.

All About Nipple Discharge

MD-Gynaecologist & Obstetrician , MBBS
Gynaecologist, Delhi
All About Nipple Discharge

Nipple discharge is a common part of breast functioning, which normally occurs during breast-feeding or pregnancy. It is often associated with the changes of menstrual hormone. The milky discharge post breast-feeding usually continues for up to two years after stopping nursing. The condition normally gets resolved on its own but if the situation persists for a long time resort to medical assistance.

The following are some of the causes of normal nipple discharge:

  • Stimulation: Normal nipple discharge can arise due to stimulation; chafing of your breast skin due to tight bras or vigorous exercises.
  • Pregnancy: Most women tend to witness clear nipple discharge in the early stages of their pregnancy. Towards the later stages, this discharge usually turns watery and becomes milky in color
  • Stopped Breast-feeding: In some cases, nipple discharge continues for some time after the mother has stopped breast-feeding her newborn
  • Hormonal Imbalance: Some women notice tenderness in breasts and nipple discharge during their menstrual cycle

What is an abnormal nipple discharge: An abnormal nipple discharge is usually bloody in color and is accompanied with tenderness of the breast. Papilloma is a non-cancerous tumor that is often responsible for bloody nipple discharge. Continuous nipple discharge from one of the breasts or nipple discharge that arises without any stimulation or external irritation is abnormal in nature.

The possible causes of abnormal nipple discharge include:

  1. Abscess: It is an assortment of pus that get accumulated within the tissues of your body. It is usually accompanied by redness, pain and swelling. Boils and carbuncles are types of abscess. Formation of abscess in breasts may result in nipple discharge.
  2. Breast cancer: Breast cancer often results in bloody nipple discharge and is often found with a presence of lump in one of the breasts.
  3. Mastitis: It is a breast infection that affects the tissues of the breast and is usually prominent during breastfeeding. Fatigue, fever and body aches are common in this situation.
  4. Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS): Normally characterized by the growth of cancerous cells in the milk ducts of your breasts, it is generally identified through mammography screening.
  5. Fibroadenoma: In this situation most young women witness an appearance of solid, tumor like structure
  6. Galactorrhea: Galactorrhea is nipple discharge of milk when not pregnant or breastfeeding. The discharge can vary in color and can be expressed from either or both breasts.

What Causes Galactorrhea: Galactorrhea is commonly caused by hyperprolactinemia, especially when it is associated with amenorrhea. Hyperprolactinemia is most often induced by medication or associated with pituitary adenomas or other sellar or suprasellar lesions.

The release of prolactin from the pituitary is held in check by dopamine from the hypothalamus. Prolactin release is encouraged by serotonin and thyrotropin-releasing hormone. This balance can be disrupted by medication (ie. antipsychotics), underactive thyroid function, pituitary tumors, hypothalamic tumors, damage to the pituitary stalk, nipple stimulation, chest trauma, herpes zoster, and emotional stress as well as a variety of other factors.

Dear lybrate user. Please don't use any such product without the proper prescription from a gynecologist. There are many household methods like papaya. Pine apple, vitamin c, seasame seeds etc which helps in abortion. Still you should consult a gynecologist. Take care.

You basically seem to be worried because she has missed her scheduled period. This is common with emergency contraceptive pills like i-pill. So do not panic. Do a urine pregnancy test. If it's negative then you need not worry and just wait for the periods to start on their own. If the test comes positive she is most probably pregnant, in that case you need to consult a gynecologist without delay if you both do not wish to continue the pregnancy.

YOU CAN TAKE TAB.THYRONORM 100MCG BBF. irregular periods due to it.it may be cured by medicines...due to it cause in infertilty .Goitrogens are naturally occurring substances in certain foods that interfere with the production of thyroid hormones (the hormones that people with hypothyroidism lack). They include some of the most commonly consumed foods of the health-conscious community: broccoli, cauliflower, kale, spinach, radishes, soybeans, peanuts, pine nuts, peaches and millet. The good news is that many health professionals believe that cooking may inactivate goitrogens. Although these foods provide many benefits for healthy people, goitrogenic potential should be considered by at-risk groups: people who have a family history of hypothyroidism, those who already have symptoms, and women approaching menopause. Some goitrogens, such as soy isoflavones, pose a particular quandary for menopausal women—they can reduce certain menopausal symptoms, such as hot flashes, but are thought to aggravate hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism could explain menopausal symptoms such as depression, weight gain, and lethargy. People with deficient thyroid function often feel cold, which might help differentiate the two conditions. It is unknown whether other phytoestrogenic foods are thought to affect thyroid functioning. While avoiding goitrogens may mitigate symptoms of hypothyroidism, many other dietary and nondietary factors are also involved. At least a dozen vitamins and minerals are recommended for preventing low thyroid function—iodine, an essential trace element present in the thyroid gland, being the most widely recognized. Iodized table salt generally contributes enough iodine to the American diet to prevent goiter, a swelling of the thyroid gland visible around the Adam’s apple and associated with hypothyroidism; however, it may not be enough to counter other effects of low thyroid function. Iodine may be available in land-grown foods, but because the amount varies considerably depending on the minerals in the soil, seafood is a more reliable source. A significant amount of iodine is found in kelp, but excessive amounts (more than 600 mcg per day for prolonged periods) may actually trigger hypothyroidism, so moderation is the key.

Dear Ms. lybrate-user, Usually in India, a lady attains menopause around 50 - 55 years of age. So if a lady is having menses at age of 62, she needs to be investigated. There is a high likelihood of cancer. She needs to show a Gynaec immediately and get at least an examination and usg done. Further investigation and management can be planned accordingly.

Don't worry too much . Keep a menstrual calendar for the next three months. If this trend persist then I would advice a Pelvic USG and thyroid function tests. If normal consider combined pills for the next 6 cycles to regularise your periods.
