How to quite smoking and recover the damage cause by the smoking, sir I want to recover my body and wanna fit?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
When quitting, you must take one day at a time. If you look too far ahead you will get discouraged and will give up. If you sit and count the number of days you have given up, that will also focus too much on achievement. You must focus on the here and now, on that day to be precise. After all quitting is not that easy due to many factors. So even if you fail one day, you must try and try again. Very few people succeed in their first attempt. Your persistence will eventually pay off. The urge to discontinue is hampered by many factors but the worst of them is the conditioning. In fact these conditions can exist all through the day unlike other addictions. But your desire to want to stop is the most important factor. It is important to find out about the ill-effects of smoking to have a reason that alarms you about continuing in the habit. The information is really scary but true and you must remind yourself about this every day. The nicotine in tobacco smoke stimulates the heart beat to raise the blood pressure in no time at all. So you must avoid it like the plague: it is just very bad medicine for you. In fact it is highly toxic too. You will need to stop smoking or consuming any tobacco related items with immediate effect. You should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time you feel like smoking (try Yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. You may also take hard candy or chewing gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine chewing gum or nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces, substantially. You may also join Smokers Anonymous in your city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep yourself occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i.e. at least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that you have quit smoking. Here’s a piece of very good advice: even if you accidentally/willfully take a cigarette, it is not the end of the world – you can start the cessation all over again. You must persevere with the best support until you defeat this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest.

Relaxation helps you to reduce anxiety. keep yourself cool and calm. Why do you feel so anxious when you sit in the class. There is no need to fear. Sit with one of your close friend. You are going to learn and there is no need to fear about it. Tell yourself everyday that you will not be anxious in the classroom and take deep breath. Doing pranayama also helps to reduce your anxiety.

My brother sickness was identified  schizophrenia in iran and we have done so much treatment in India, Turkey, Turkmenistan, iran Pakistan  so he is still is not good Please help them. He is sick more than 25 years will pay your fees if he get will.

Psychiatrist, Delhi
Dear, schizophrenia is a severe mental illness that is primarily treated with medicines and other brain stimulation techniques. We will have to carefully review the treatment records and whether any brain stimulation methods have been used or not. Many times medicines are used for inadequate period of time or at inadequate doses. Sometimes medicine doses are missed. Finally we have to see if the diagnosis of schizophrenia is accurate or not. Based on all these information, advice can be suggested.

My problem is I am not able to concentrate on my study and I am not sleeping early night?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
You may not be a night person and so planning studies at night may not suit you at all.In which case morning studies may be ideal for you. I suspect that you are going through a spurt in the production of the male sex hormone, which affects you in three ways quite unknown to you. First, there will be a sexual agenda that it will kick off, secondly, there will be aggressiveness and rebelliousness, and thirdly, you will suffer from acne and pimple problems. This is the effect of the hormone that has a duration of almost two years and you will have no control over it. But if you have a good value system you will tide over this phase without significant damage. The hormonal imbalances may not only impact your memory because of the chemical but also bring along some distractions that come with it. Apart from from a spurt in the production of testosterone, you may also experience a spurt in the growth hormone, which will make you feel tired and sleepy all through the day, not just at night. If that be the case you will need to wait for that to subside before feeling more energetic. But you may work on the following even if the hormones kick in: Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night?s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, consume less of fat and use olive oil instead, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning at least five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There are some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that you and the family go for counseling too.

I get very depress at exam tym. My hand and legs starts shivering. And my mind goes out of my control I cant perform ...
I think you get into a panic mode during the exams and develop the jitters. It is best for you to do deep breathing for a few minutes and you will calm down immediately. There is a good exercise that helps to lower panic immediately: block your closed lips with your index finger and blow tight against your cheeks and hold that breath for some time and then release it. Your heart beat will slow down instantly and you will have a calmer demeanor to approach your exam paper. A lot of the reason may be true because of stress perhaps. But you may work on the following to better improve yourself: Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, consume less of fat and use olive or coconut oil instead, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. 3 Tips To Remove Stress From Sex Life

MBBS, Diploma in Psychological Medicine
Sexologist, Pune
3 Tips To Remove Stress From Sex Life

Stress plays a significant role in creating rifts in relationships as it mostly forbids partners from meeting each other’s physical and emotional needs. This reduces intimacy in a relationship and results in an unhappy sex life. In the modern world of continuous work pressure and fast paced lifestyle, stress generally takes away all the energy required to enjoy a fulfilling sex life. Here are some tips, which will prove to be very effective in keeping stress away from your sex life.

1. Don’t make it seem necessary to have sex even if your partner is tired

If you find that stress due to problems at workplace or financial issues is affecting your partner considerably, then respect his/her decision of saying no to sex. Don’t pressurise your partner to get intimate just because you want it. Your patience and understanding nature will increase your partner’s admiration towards you, in turn leading to a more passionate and happier sex life.

2. Try to stay away from performance anxiety

Don’t let performance anxiety take a toll on your sex life. Studies show that being conscious about their performance in bed leads men to lose their erection, which takes all the pleasure away from intimate moments. Instead of being stressed about your sexual performance, focus on your partner’s needs and attend to them for a more pleasurable sex life.

3. Focus on getting rid of other stressful issues from your life

Common tensions of your daily life and everyday issues like the normal household chores, and your duties and responsibilities towards your family often leave you too exhausted to spend time with your partner. Moreover, getting preoccupied with social commitments also minimises the time available for just the two of you.

To prevent these stressful situations from affecting your sex life, try to focus on removing them. For this, you can ask for help from other family members to carry out household chores or diminish your time at social gatherings to be available for each other exclusively. Spending more time in each other’s company will not only brighten your day, but will also give you an enhanced and more intimate relationship. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Psychiatrist.

I got engaged now. It was arranged. I was not ready but still I agreed seeing my parents tension. Now I can not talk or adjust with the person. I am sleeping a lot and having abnormal eating. I lost interest in everything and I am sad in ruining a person's life. He is always sad seeing how I behave and treat him. I do not want marriage but now my parents and relatives are saying its too late to say no. I do not know what to do. I was in love with my colleague and I said its not going to work out and agreed for the marriage. He was also my friend before. So still I contact him sometimes. I am feeling regret talking to him so I do not talk anymore. Nowadays I do not talk to anyone much. And when my fiance call I am having too much pressure anger and sad. I wish I could make him and my parents happy but I am scared.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
No, that is itself the wrong intention and objective. You should marry to please yourself first. It is better to cancel an engagement than a marriage. You could have a frank talk with your fiance and tell him the truth about your BF. Ask him to help call off the engagement for some reason. You should have mentioned about yoru BF before you got engaged but it is not too late even now. If your parents are not willing to change thier minds, you could still approach some elder relative to broach the topic and even if that fails to garner support then seek the help of a marriage counselor who I am sure will intervene. Do not go into a marriage so unhappily and unwillingly. Perhaps, you could show this reply to see if they are even slightly amenable to the idea.

Hi my exams are near I hv to concentrate more n more n how to do it n how to increase memory power plzz try to gv any medication.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Thanks for the query. Since when do have these concentration difficulties in studies? Starting from simple to more complex issues; we usually are able to concentrate better when whatever we are reading/doing is interesting for us & NOT MERELY DRAB WORK! Hence, you can try to make studies interesting by devising punmonics, trying to figure out practical applications of whatever you are studying with help of teachers & elders around. Secondly, try & choose subjects/courses which you are really interested in studying & just do not study for the heck of getting a degree/academic qualification. Lastly, studies have time & again proven that average concentration span of human mind is around 30 minutes. Hence, if you are able to study for 30 minutes; you are actually doing good! You can devise a 30 minutes study-10 minutes break (strictly 10 minutes!) schedule to improve your concentration. Good Luck.

Armodafinil vs modafinil - which is better? Recently my doctor mentioned modafinil ; however prescribed armodafinil in wakalert 150 mg. Did she forget the modafinil brand or is it same in action. I did not get the same effects as modafinil though. Hence asking.

DNB (Psychiatry), DPM, MBBS
Psychiatrist, Mumbai
Armodafinil benefits are similar in a lot of respects to those associated with Modafinil. The wakefulness effect is very noticeable, similar to a powerful dose of caffeine. The exception is that unlike caffeine there are no jitters or nervousness and it does not increase (nor decrease) blood pressure or pulse rate. Armodafinil is considered to be more safe and has almost zero addictive potential (Modafinil does have a slightly higher potential for side effects and tolerance). Unlike Modafinil, Armodafinil will not actually disturb your existing sleep patterns. This means that even after using the supplement you will not experience a sudden drop off in effects and will be quite able to go to sleep and at the same time as normal. You will also wake up at your regular hour. While Modafinil users often say that it is impossible to sleep within 5-10 hours of taking a dosage of this drug, Armodafinil does not cause the same result. It is interesting that some regard this as a positive while other may see it as a negative if they are looking for a prescription drug that helps them stay awake for long hours.

Dear lybrate-user, the given tilted eye looking may not be a symptom at all in case of the social phobia. But as you got 63 percentile marks in your social phobia test, we can address it as social phobia. Social phobia is fear to be in public situations, feeling anxious or nervous to speak to strangers, entering into a crowd etc. If you have all these symptoms, I suggest you to consult a psychologist for psychotherapy treatment. Take care.

Is it normal to think about sex all the time? I think about sex even after having sex? Is it something to worry about?
No. Many individuals have heightened sex drives that cause them to become distracted in the workplace and at home. An increased sex drive often correlates with heightened aggression, and it can also lead to sex addiction. If you have an increased sex drive and want to relieve yourself of its constant presence, there are a number of things you can do to decrease your libido and keep it under control. You can consult me by clicking on consult option for homoepathic treatment to lower your sex drive without side effects. Your options will vary depending on your medical history, but there are multiple pills you can be prescribed to help you win the battle against an overactive sex drive.

You should both go to a sexologist and talk about your problem. It is very likely that she is gone off of sex because of the medication and also because of menopause. It is however possible to get her interested again if you approached her reasonably by talking about your need. You can also start with gentle that is non-sexual and gradually make it more physical and touch only non-sexual areas. As she gets comfortable you can touch her erogenous zones and gently coax her into more of that kind of contact. If she is amenable she may allow more of it. If you do it right and excite her, she may change her attitude. If she is experiencing genital dryness, as is expected, she may not be favorable. In that case a visit to her gynecologist is advised for a topical application.
