Hello friends,

I am doctor Jyoti Girotra Gandhi practicing Sector 15 Faridabad. I have done my practice in Jyoti Iowa clinic. I hold 9 years experience working in Ayurveda which is really close to my heart.

I want to acquaint you with a skin disorder blemishes or hyperpigmentation this is a serious disorder that sometimes neglected it is said that beauty lies skin deep so if your skin is not maintained and that's it means it's a Red flag that nothing is good inside your body. So skin acts as outer protective shell of the body it protects us from harmful chemicals environmental toxins ultraviolet rays but what do we do with our skin we don't have time to take care of it first I start with what is blemishes are this blemishes are Imperfection of the skin they can be in the form of acne scars pustules papules or hyperpigmented patches these blemishes not only leave mark to your face but they do so with your confidence.

Also, I have seen many people who shun social circle because of such type of patches or blemishes. So what are the causes of this ugly patches or blemishes they are many major causes. The first and foremost is Lifestyle we go on and consume food like white bread gold ring of rice such type of food is rich in sugar and carbohydrate and this molecule they help in sugar 2 breakdown such molecules which again bind with protein molecule thereby producing the elasticity of collagen in a skin.

This gives rise to wrinkles on our face. And in addition to that are sweaty gym sessions again acts to divorce of skin we have very stressful life the stress also is the contributing factor in skin disorders specially blemishes. Yet another causes hormonal changes specially in women women experienced hormonal change in every stage be it menstruation pregnancy or menopause during pregnancy which type of 50 are very common this is called mark of pregnancy because body secrets high level of progesterone which stimulates the planet sites in the scheme which increases the production of melanin thereby giving rise to brown patches. Yet another causes are trying different products in the market.

I have seen many pulse take keeping each and every product over the skin and some products the exposure to lead the skin to a major accident which is not required. And then there are weather changes the weather changes have very bad effect on the pH of the skin the skin also lead to blemishes aging is yet another cause not only great and wise words comes with age blemishes also comes with age. You may have seen people above 60 years of age they have purple spots on the face this is because the tiny blood vessels breaks down to the skin there are many other causes like calcium deficiency I have seen people they keep trying ointment over their skin but nothing helps them because the causes something else the cause is within them they are calcium deficient so if we increase the calcium they will get rid of these blemishes and according to Ayurveda there are there are different causes also for example sleeping during day that increases the mucus load digestive file or accumulation of toxins in the body.

So how do we treat this blemishes it is true that blemishes do not get cured by instant miracle. they need commitment but in Ayurveda there is comprehensive extensive and very detailed plan of treatment Ayat my clinic use both external and internal applications external in the form of face pack and gel which play a very small part and internal in the form of powder tablets and liquids because they am at purifying the body cleansing the body throwing the waste and toxins out of the body. And in chronic cases we have to go for Panchkarma also like we have procedures. Like we have procedures for operations they have they are made to go under Pareshan or vomiting in a day which clears the body lastly I like to make three suggestion to my view was first hydrate your skin of water second don't take this premises lightly and third do not go for products available in the market without consulting a doctor it is your skin and you will be wearing it for your life you invest lot on your clothes do a small portion of it on your skin after 20 years would be the reflection of the care you are taking today.

Allergic Rhinitis - Top Signs And Symptoms You Must Always Know!

Allergic Rhinitis - Top Signs And Symptoms You Must Always Know!

Allergic rhinitis is the swelling and inflammation of the nasal cavity. It occurs in response to an allergic reaction initiated by the contact of nasal mucosa with allergens, which commonly are minute particles like pollen grains. The nasal cavity comprises of 3 meatuses and conchae, the superior, middle and inferior. Bones present around these meatuses and conchae are called as the turbinates. These bony structures are responsible for obstruction of any foreign particle entering the nasal cavity.

Production of mucous prevents entry of minute particles through the nose into the lungs. Due to certain factors like low immunity, these foreign particles gain an entry in the nose and cause irritation. The inflammatory reaction initiated by in the nasal passage by dust, pollen grains, bacteria, pathogens causes local swelling giving rise to the symptoms of allergic rhinitis. A specifically seasonal form of allergic rhinitis is known as Hay fever.

Ayurveda describes allergic rhinitis to be a result of accumulation of toxins and decreased immunity in an individual. These accumulated toxins are known to affect the 2 humors in the body, namely vata and kapha. Other contributing factors mentioned in Ayurvedic texts for allergic rhinitis are a prolonged period of digestive problems, inhalation of smoke or dust, weather changes, weak immune system and unhealthy lifestyle. People having furry pets at their homes also stand at a high risk for developing rhinitis. From an Ayurvedic perspective, certain cause of allergic rhinitis can further be described. Low digestion strength is termed as ‘Mandagni’ which means low fire. Increase of the kapha dosha is ‘Kaphavruddhi’. ‘Viruddha aahara’ is the consumption of improper combinations of food.

Signs and symptoms of allergic rhinitis are as follows-

Most common-

  1. Sneezing
  2. Blocked or stuffy nose
  3. Runny nose, post nasal drip
  4. Continuous irritation in the nostrilsItching of throat, eye, nose
  5. Cough
  6. Facial pain
  7. Fatigue and irritability
  8. Watery eyes, puffiness around the eyes

Diagnosis of allergic rhinitis can be made by evaluation of the physical symptoms. Also, confirmatory tests like an allergy test, skin test and blood tests can be done. Symptomatic treatment approach is followed.

Treatment:

The Ayurvedic approach for treatment of allergic rhinitis propagates maintaining a balance of humors of the body. Eradication of the accumulation of toxins is the primary aim of treatment. Firstly, dietary changes are advised. Changes in lifestyle habits in accordance to the seasonal changes are required to be made. If prone to allergy, certain precautions like covering the mouth when in contact to dust, refraining from petting furry animals, keeping homes dust free are advised. If an individual is suffering from a chronic form of allergic rhinitis, then a ‘Panchakarma’ is preferred, which relieves the Tridosha and eliminates accumulated toxins from the body. Nasal symptoms are treated by use of nasal oils. A light, minimally spicy and cooked in less oil is recommended. Lukewarm water and soups should be taken regularly. Relief from constipation is necessary.

Herbs that are useful for treating allergic rhinitis are as follows-

Haldi (Turmeric) helps to improve stamina and combat the allergic reaction. It also acts as an anti-oxidant. Purnarnava is an immunity modulator and anti-inflammatory medicine. It reduces the frequency of hypersensitivity reactions. Pepper prevents the accumulation of toxins and reduces sneezing and itching of nose.Practicing Yoga also helps in relieving symptoms. Kapalbhati, Anulomvilom Pranayam, Vrukshaasan, Bhujangasan and Shavaasan can be practiced regularly. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Suvarnaprashan - What To Expect

Suvarnaprashan - What To Expect

Suvarnaprashan, also called as Swarnabindu prashan or Swarnaprashan is a treatment modality used in the Ayurvedic sciences for the enhancement of the immune system, boosting concentration and improving the intelligence of children. ‘Suvarna’ means gold and ‘Prashan’ means administration, which literally means administration of gold. Colloidal gold in the form of fine particles of metallic gold or the ‘swarna bhasma’ is administered to children, usually in the age groups of 0-15 years, as advised in the Ayurvedic literature. It is considered to be an ancient health tonic having multiple benefits in children. Its primary actions are the improvement of the functions of the brain, immune system and skin. It protects children from recurring infections.

Suvarnaprashan Sanskar is the technique which is considered to be immune-modulatory and is an ancient ritual undertaken in the Hindu families for children. At a specific period, is given to the children at the sunrise on every Pushya Nakshatra for at least a period of one year. However, some experienced ‘vaidyas’ or the Ayurvedic doctors are of the opinion that a low dose of Suvarnaprashan (less than 0.2mg per dose) for a period of 3 months should be given. Suvarnaprashan can also be given for 10 to 12 days per month and such 6‐12 cycles should be repeated to get maximum health benefits. The main ingredients in a dose of Suvarnaprashan are – Nano particles of pure gold, pure cow Ghee, unfiltered honey and water. Dosage of the swarna bhasma is calculated according to the body wight of the child. An amount of 0.25 to 0.50 mg per Kg body weight in a single dose of Suvarnaprashan is the ideal dose for infants and children up to age of 15 years.

Also, the total dosage should not exceed 30 mg per day if child is overweight. Ratio for the addition of ghee and honey is 1:3, where 1 part of cow ghee and 3 parts honey are added in the mixture. The benefits of using this technique has been described widely across Hindu scriptures on Ayurvedic medicines. The immune system of the children has been observed with evidences to become stronger. Its action of strengthening the immune system protects children from seasonal infections. Also on contraction of diseases, recovery is quicker. It acts in increasing the physical strength and rate of growth of the infant. Cognitive functions of the brain, intelligence and memory power also improve. Digestive power of the stomach of the child increases and digestion related complaints of the child reduce.  It also acts on the appetite of the child. It affects the overall health of the children across all ages after administration in a positive manner. Quick absorption in the body of the infants and children is the basis of its beneficial effects.

The gold ash used in Suvarnaprashan has been observed to act on the macrophages present in peritoneum, phagocytes, catecholamines in the brain, 5 HT and the plasma cortisone levels. Apart from its immunomodulatory function, it has a free radical scavenging activity. It is also an analgesic and anti-stress medication. Standardizing of the preparation, dose and administration protocol is a necessity to propagate its use as a highly recommended medication for a better health of the children. It should be brought in use on a community level, to combat diseases of the young age and also to curb the spread of epidemics. It can be promoted as a preventive treatment in the society.

Hi Lybrate user, Withdrawing from an addiction is a big challenge. I appreciate that you are determined to do it. In such cases motivation is more important than medicines. 1. Do not withdraw yourself from liquor completely and rapidly. It will generate withdrawal symptoms. There is a way to do it. Reduce the intake for three days and then come back to the normal amount you were taking. Continue for three days and then go for further reduction of quantity and so on 2. Sleeping is just not the answer to addiction. You need medicine for good mental health, a nervine tonic and a tranquilizer of course. Start taking 2 Ashwagandha tablets with milk once a day. It will also help to get rid of weakness which the patients withdrawing liquor generally face. All the best.

Migraine Is More Than A Headache - Choose Ayurveda Over Others!

Migraine Is More Than A Headache - Choose Ayurveda Over Others!

A migraine is something, which can really make a person’s day go from bad to worse. However, while popping an aspirin may be the age old solution for solving such a literally mind numbing issue, it really does not mean that this is the best solution. Theoretically, the best solution to a migraine should come naturally to the person, who is unfortunately the victim of a migraine.

It is more than a headache
When a person has a migraine, he or she is likely to know that this is the case due to a pulsating sensation behind the eye. In addition to this, there are quite a few other symptoms which include pain on one side of the head, nausea and a sensitiveness to light in its various forms.

Natural treatments for migraine
There are a range of possible natural solutions a person can make use of to get rid of migraine hits.

  1. One of these solutions is quite simple, even if it sounds a little odd! Take a few cabbage leaves, crush them and using a soft cloth, apply the paste on the forehead of the person who is having a migraine attack.
  2. While a person who is down with migraine may feel that life has given him or her lemons, he or she should really not despair. This is because these lemons can be made use of, as well, in order to make the ill effects of the migraine go away. To do this, take five lemons, peel them, grind them well and then add a little bit of water to make a paste. Apply this paste to the patient’s forehead.
  3. Apart from using remedies to cure migraine, there are a few other things which are needed to be done in order to get up and running as soon as possible. One of these things is to get enough rest. Taking into account the fact that a migraine has the potential to severely hinder the prospect of a person functioning normally, for a person to push himself or herself against the intense migraine discomfort so as to fulfil his or her responsibilities will not only result in substandard work, but will also make the situation worse.
  4. Hot and cold compress can also go some way in improving a person’s migraine problem.
  5. All beverages apart from water and tea should be avoided. Water hydrates and is essential while tea is diuretic.

If you follow these natural remedies, you will successfully be able to treat your migraine issue.

Rheumatism - Ayurvedic Remedies For Treating It!

Rheumatism - Ayurvedic Remedies For Treating It!

Rheumatism is an auto-immune and chronic disease caused due to the abnormal swelling of the body joints in the knees or the shoulders. The symptoms of rheumatism include intense pain in the morning, mild fever with the pain, swollen joints resulting in immense pain, stiff joints, increased pain in cold climate and extreme tiredness.

Doctors are still doubtful about the exact cause of the disease, but the weakened immune system might damage the joints. This makes obese people, smokers and women most susceptible to this disorder.

According to Ayurveda, rheumatism is caused due to a major imbalance in the ‘Vata or Kapha’ dosha. The Ayurvedic remedies aim for the restoration of the body’s Vata/Kapha balance. Ayurvedic remedies help reduce the ‘ama’, the toxins produced by the body.

The Ayurvedic remedies for rheumatoid arthritis are as follows:

  1. Boil a cup of mustard oil with camphor in it until the camphor dissolves well. Apply the lukewarm mixture on the affected areas once a day. This helps revive the blood circulation of the affected portion and subsequently reduces the abnormal swelling of the affected joints.
  2. You can take a few unpeeled slices of potato and soak them in a glass of cold water. Keep it for the night and drink it the next morning on an empty stomach. Do this every day to get rid of the pain.
  3. Include little amounts of ginger, garlic, and turmeric in your regular meals. This will help to reduce the inflammation and stiffness of the affected joints. Ayurvedic scriptures suggest that you should try and reduce the consumption of fish, red meat, curd, spinach and extremely chilled water as they might cause an imbalance in the ‘vata’.
  4. Applying a recommended amount of castor oil on the affected region helps reduce the inflammation and thus, the pain.
  5. A herbal preparation of celery seeds can be consumed daily in order to treat rheumatoid arthritis.

Eating For Two In Pregnancy

Eating For Two In Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a 9-month exhilarating journey, but the road to it is full of bumpers. There will be a sea change in your physical, mental, and emotional health. When you are pregnant, not only you but your entire family becomes conscious of what you eat, whether you are getting proper rest or not, whether you are taking your medicines or not, and many other such minor things. Your lazy husband—a TV buff earlier—who used to spend his energy only in changing channels of TV, suddenly becomes very active in extending help to you in kitchen, in his every possible way. He is willing to run in the middle of the night to fulfill your craving of having a chocolate ice-cream. You mother-in-law who had been busy all the time finding faults with you, suddenly starts showering love upon you. Your nagging boss who would delegate you a new work at 6 in the evening, now takes care that you leave for the day on time. So, count your blessings that you are pregnant!!!

Every mother dreams that a baby born to her is healthy. Healthy diet is one of the important factors towards fulfilling this dream. Time and again you might have been advised that now you should eat for two. It literally does not mean that you have to double your food intake but certainly you will have to double your vitamins and minerals intake. While deciding your diet for this journey, listen more to your brain than to your tongue.

Keep the following principles in mind:

  • Increase your frequency of meals rather than taking in at a time. Take 6 meals instead of 3 which becomes easier to digest. If you do not eat frequently, it is likely that your blood sugar may drop which will result in cravings.
  • Go for organic food if your pockets permit.  Organic food is free from pesticides and toxins and that is what you can be happy about. If not possible, use normal food but make it a point that you wash all the fruits and vegetables at least three times before eating them.
  • Avoid canned food – Canning reduces nutrients by 20%, so avoid it. Try to take fresh vegetables as much as possible.
  • Balance Vata – Vata is the energy of the nervous system in the body. To balance it, use warm, freshly cooked foods with healthy oils of ghee and olive oil. Avoid eating leftovers as much as possible.
  • Foods to Avoid – Avoid hot and spicy food, raw vegetable, undercooked beans and pulses, food with artificial flavours and preservatives.
  • Enjoy the three tastes The three tastes that balance Vata are sweet, sour, and salty. During pregnancy, the sweet taste should be most emphasized, because it is more wholesome for the baby.
  • Eat sattvic food like milk and ghee which build ojas in the body – a very important element for nourishment of the baby.

Ayurveda texts mentions the diet regimen under “Garbhiniparicharya” which proposes month by month diet for would be mother.

  • First month of pregnancy – The mother should increase the quantity of milk to ensure calcium intake.
  • Second month – Herbs like Shatavari should be added to the milk before consuming.
  • Third month – Warm glass of milk with honey and ghee in unequal proportions should be taken.
  • Fourth month – Start adding little bit fresh butter to your diet.
  • Fifth month – Increase the intake of cow ghee in your diet.
  • Sixth, seventh month demand that you start taking buttermilk with your meals.
  • Eighth month – Take a bowl of milk-based rice pudding daily.
  • Ninth month – Take a nutritious and balanced diet, and do not forget to massage your body with oil to have an easy delivery.

Note: This diet should not be taken without consulting an Ayurvedic Physician.
