There is no medication or food for improving eyesight or to get rid of glasses. If not interested in glasses then you can try a. Contact lens b. Lasik laser as your age is now 17 years so your number will not increase much now whether you wear glasses or not as number becomes stable at age of 18-20 yrs. Having said that I advise you to eat balanced diet including green vegetables and seasonal fruits for keeping eyes and body healthy. As you are not comfortable with contact lens then go for lasik. Lasik is a very easy and painless procedure. If you want to get rid of glasses then go for lasik.

I have sight issue with my eyes. Getting headache pain. Current sight is left eye -2.75 and -2.5.
First of all pls visit an eye doctor to check if your number has changed - that could be the first reason for the headache. Secondly, are you using glasses constantly? if not, that's the other reason for headache. Lastly, if you have long hours in front of the pc this maybe another cause of headache. For this you can start lubricating eye drops. Pls visit an eye surgeon for ruling out all of the above.

I have started using contact lenses. Can you let me know the do's and do nots of using it.
Always Always wash your hands with a mild soap and dry them with a lint-free towel before touching your lenses. Always clean, rinse, and disinfect your lenses each time you remove them. Follow your eye care professional's instructions. Always handle the same lens first to avoid confusing the right and left lenses Always keep all solution bottles closed when not in use. Always clean your lens case daily and let air dry. Replace your lens case every three months. Always use solution before expiration date marked on bottle, or discard. Always remove contacts before you go swimming. Always carry your contact lens case along with a bottle of multi-purpose solution to have a safe place to store your lenses. Always schedule regular appointments with your eye care professional as he/she recommends. Never Never allow soaps, cosmetics, or other substances to come into contact with your lenses. Never touch the tip of a lens care solution bottle to any surface, including your finger or the contact lens. Never re-use any lens care solution. Never use eye drops or solutions not intended for use with contact lenses. Never wear your contact lenses in the presence of harmful or irritating vapors or fumes. Never wear lenses for more than the prescribed time. Never swap contact lenses with anyone. Never apply hairspray after putting your contact lenses on.

Types and Causes of Cataract

Super-Speciality Trained Ophthalmologists
Ophthalmologist, Delhi
Types and Causes of Cataract

One of the most common ailments that affect elders the most is cataract. Cataract develops gradually and can occur in one or both eyes and if not treated in time can cause blindness. Most cataracts are not visible to the naked eye, but in some cases, a dense cataract can make the pupil appear white. A cataract can be defined as a dense, cloudy build up of protein masses on the eye lens. This obstructs the light falling on the retina and does not allow the retina to form a clear image.

Advancing in age is one of the most common causes of cataracts. Along with this, there are several other factors that play a role in the development of cataracts as well. These include smoking, exposure to ultraviolet radiation, long term use of steroids, trauma, radiation therapy and diabetes. Anything that triggers an overproduction of chemically altered oxygen molecules in the body can increase your risk of suffering from this condition. Hypertension and a family history of cataracts can also put you at a higher risk of developing cataracts. Poor nutrition or a diet that is deficient in antioxidants can also put you at a high risk of suffering from this condition.

Cataracts can be categorized on the basis of where and how they develop in the eye. This categorization is based on location:

  1. Nuclear Cataract: These develop in the middle of the lens and turn the center of the eye yellow. Nuclear cataracts are typically associated with aging.
  2. Cortical cataract: These develop around the edges of the nucleus and are wedge shaped. Gradually, spokes emitted from these wedges work themselves towards the center of the eye.
  3. Posterior capsular cataract: These are among the faster growing cataracts and develop at the back of the lens. They are also known as subcapsular cataracts. Cataracts triggered by diabetes or the prolonged use of steroids usually fall in this category.

Categorization based on how they develop:

  • Congenital cataract: These are present at birth or develop within the first year of a baby's life. Congenital cataracts are rare.
  • Secondary cataract: These are triggered as a side effect of medications or diseases like glaucoma and diabetes. Prolonged use of steroids like prednisone can also lead to the development of such cataracts.
  • Traumatic cataract: Cataract  that is developed as a result of an injury to the eye is known as traumatic cataracts. They have a very slow rate of development.
  • Radiation cataract: It develops as a side effect of radiation therapy used to treat cancer.

This condition is called Eye strain, or asthenopia, in which the eyes get tired from excessive or intense use. It can be annoying, but it tends to disappear with rest. Although it’s not often a serious condition, eye strain could be a symptom of an underlying problem. Eye strain is known to cause fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and headaches Eye strain may lead to other problems, such as: •Headaches •Difficulty Concentrating •Irritability •Burning Sensation •Watery Eyes •Dry Eyes •Photophobia •Eye Pain If you work on a computer, taking eye breaks for five minutes every hour can lessen the strain on your eyes. Simply closing your eyes for a few moments can also do wonders. Try standing up, moving around, or taking a short walk to help regain concentration. Regular eye exercises that involve focusing on different distances can help prevent future straining. Blink often. Blinking refreshes and replenishes your eyes naturally. If you are having trouble with blinking due to the dryness of your eyes, try using Homoeopathic CINELUBE EYEDROPS (HAPDCO) 3 times daily.

Hello, do you have myopia (near-sightedness)? include the following for getting better vision: vitamins a, c, e, and minerals like copper and zinc are essential to eyesight. Get the antioxidants from dark leafy greens, egg yolks, yellow peppers, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and carrots. Include garlic and onions. Blueberries, grapes as they have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can help improve your vision. Dha is a fatty acid found in coldwater fish like salmon, sardines and mackerel. Exercises for strengthening eye muscles: -begin by partially closing your eyes; the lids should only be halfway shut. After holding for 10-15 seconds, close your eyes very slowly. Take a few deep breaths to increase oxygen in the blood. -warm your eyes. Rub your palms together to create heat, and then place them against your eyes for five seconds. Repeat this three times. -hold a pen at arm's length. Focus your gaze on the tip of the pen. Bring the pen closer to your nose at a slow and steady pace. Repeat this exercise 5-10 times. -concentrate your vision on the tip of your nose. Then shift your gaze to an object further away, either at arm's length or 20 feet away. Then shift your eyes back to the tip of your nose. Repeat this exercise 10 times. -sit in a relaxed but upright position. Begin by look to the left-most position (without moving your head) and hold to stretch your eye muscles. Hold for 5 counts. Blink and return your gaze back to look straight in front of you. Then look to the right-most position with your gaze and hold for 5 counts. Repeat 3 times, blinking between each hold. Then, repeat this exercise looking up and then down. Do not forget about blinking. Insufficient sleep may weaken your vision, so shoot for 8 hours of sound sleep a night. Rest your eyes 10 minutes for every 50 minutes spent reading or in front of the computer. If your eyes feel overly tired, lie down and place cooling cucumber slices over your eyelids. Medication: take homoeopathic medicine which will help you in preventing first and then reducing the power of your eyes (if the eye power is less). Take physostigma 6/ thrice daily for 1 month and instill euphrasia eye drops twice a day. Thereafter, revert back for further guidance.

Depends on amount of exotropia. If exotropia can not be controlled with glasses it usually requires surgery. And it is safe also.

Make sure you are reading in adequate light, correct distance (about 40 cm for reading books or mobile, 60 to 70 cm for computers), etc. Simple red eyes usually clear by themselves. Home remedies such as washing with plain cold water, applying cold packs to closed eyes, taking a short period of rest, usually helps. If you are studying hard/sleeping inadequately, travelled excessively, have cold or cough - take care of these events as much as possible, it will help. General care includes eating a well balanced diet, sleeping adequately, etc. Give good rest to the eyes, take frequent short breaks during near work. If no response after these measures, make sure if you are using any eye glasses, that the glasses you are wearing are correct, by consulting an ophthalmlogist.
