Hello lybrate-user, I think the main complain should be cold allergy but still as you have asked for dry skin I will answer that. Skin drying and being oily is not in our hand the glands in skin are responsible for production of oil. If you have dry skin you can use moisturiser cream and many facewash are available in market for dry skin.

Hi. Dark circles can be temporary (means happens after any recent or chronic diseases or underlying medical condition, insufficient sleep, nutritional deificiency, working long hrs. On computer, lack of rest, stress/ tension, etc.) which can be improved by fixing the underlying cause or the problem or can be inherited from your parent's genes which can't be treated or cured! management: eat healthy and on time. Avoid junk. Drink plenty of water (as dehydration can cause dull or patchy skin). Sleep well. Wear anti-glare spectacles while working on computer. Reduce your stress/ tension through yoga, meditation or any other excercises (it not only improves your blood circulation, but also reduces the production of stress hormones by the body as well as increases happy hormones in the body). Use sunglasses regularly and not to forget to apply a thick layer of bakson's suncare sunscreen liberally, 20-30 minutes before stepping out in the sun and apply the same again after 3-4 hours if you have exposure to sunlight for long hours. Take homoeopathic medicines - cina 1m/ one dose daily at night for 10 days apply medicynth's whitch hazel cream and bakson's under eye cream twice - in morning and at night daily.

Keratosis Pilaris - Causes, Management and Treatment

MBBS, Diploma In Dermatology And Venerology And Leprosy (DDVL), DNB (Dermatology), MNAMS

Keratosis Pilaris - Causes, Management and Treatment

The skin has a protein called keratin that protects it from infections and other harmful toxins.  For various reasons, mostly unknown, but likely genetic, there could be a build up of this keratin leading to small, light-colored, hard bumps under the skin that can feel like sandpaper. This condition is medically known as keratosis pilaris.  These pillars of keratin block the hair follicles that open onto the surface of the skin, and when a number of follicles are blocked, it leads to dry, bumpy feeling. In common words, it is also referred to as chicken skin, chicken bumps, or goose bumps.

  • Occurrence:  The onset is usually in the first decade of life, continues to grow in number in teenagers (80%), and slowly subsides as they grow older (40% of adults).  People with dry skin are more likely to have these bumps than people with oily skin.  The most commonly affected areas include upper arms, thighs, buttocks and very rarely on the face.
  • Cause: This is a genetic disorder, and the bumps are due to excessive formation and buildup of keratin due to faulty genes.  There could be surplus skin formation under these follicles or hair follicles trapped under these bumps. There could be a small area of inflammation and redness around the bumps.
  • Weather Correlation:  Keratosis pilaris is more common and evident during the winter months when the skin is normally drier than in summer months.  Some people could have this condition lifelong, with only manifestation seen in winters and complete absence of bumps in the summer months.
  • Symptoms: The condition is usually asymptomatic, except for the dryness, and does not cause itching or medical harm. The esthetic concern, especially if in upper arms, is the only concern.  Some people could be affected by the hard, bumpy feeling of the skin.  There are no long-term medical symptoms or harmful effects of this condition though.
  • Treatment:  No treatment is required; however, moisturizers may be required to prevent the bumps from drying up. In very severe cases, creams may be used to remove dead skin cells and to prevent plugged follicles.  Alpha hydroxy acid, salicylic acid, or lactic acid containing creams can be used to remove the dead skin cells. These also help moisturize the skin and reduce dryness.  Vitamin A containing creams can be used to unplug the hair follicles.
  • A word of caution though: These creams can cause itching and redness.  Since this condition is prevalent in children, these creams need to be used only if absolutely essential and with medical prescriptions. The condition is harmless and self-limiting, so no treatment is mandatory.  Patient education is of utmost importance in these cases.

Hi lybrate-user, thanks for the query. Here are some easy tips for you. Please try to wear socks even while working at home. Keep the heels clean with brushing them. Application of coconut oil or olive oil will help you to heal to some extend. Avoid standing for long time and lastly drink a good amount of water everyday. You can use homoeopathic treatment for cracks.

Please suggest some face wash containing kojic acid. My skin is oily. Will be better if its not too much costly.

Please suggest some face wash containing kojic acid. My skin is oily. Will be better if its not too much costly.
Kojic acid soap is used to remove the dead cells of the skin and hence the exposed skin is more sensitive and can lead to rashes and also the skin will turn dry after using the soap leading to itching and hence I will suggest you to not use it.

Top Things You Should Know About Laser Hair Removal

Top Things You Should Know About Laser Hair Removal

Are you unhappy with the results of shaving, waxing or tweezing for removing the unwanted hair from your body? You should opt for laser hair removal for this purpose, which is considered to be much more effective than the regular methods. Laser hair removal is a very common cosmetic procedure which is undertaken popularly. It involves the exposure of your body hair follicles to beams of highly concentrated laser light. The pigments present in your follicles absorb this light, which results in the destruction of the hair.

Benefits of Laser Hair Removal-

Lasers are quite effective in removing unwanted hair from areas such as the legs, face, arms, underarms and other different body parts. The various benefits of laser hair removal include the following:

  1. Precision: Lasers can target dark, coarse hairs selectively without causing any damage to the surrounding skin.

  2. Speed: Every pulse of laser takes less than a fraction of a second, during which many hairs are treated together. The laser is capable of treating an area which is the size of a quarter within a second. Areas such as the upper lips take less than one minute to be treated, while large areas may require an hour.

  3. Predictability: The results of laser hair removal are highly predictable and most people get to have permanent hair loss after undertaking three to seven treatment sessions.

Procedure-

Your hair, which will get treated is usually trimmed to a few millimeters above your skin surface. The laser device is adjusted according to your hair colour, thickness and location.

You will be made to wear proper eye protection, depending on the type of laser being used. The outer layers of your skin are also protected using a cold gel or a cooling device. This helps the laser to penetrate your skin. After this, a full pulse light is exposed to the area concerned. After completion of the process, you will be given ice packs, cold water and anti-inflammatory creams for easing any discomfort you feel.

For a few days after a laser hair removal session, your treated skin area may look and feel like a sunburn. You need to apply moisturisers for healing. You can wear make-up if the treatment has been undertaken on your skin. The treated hair falls out within the next one month. You should wear sunscreen for preventing colour changes on your treated skin area. In people with a dark complexion, blisters are sometimes likely. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dermatologist.

Glycolic Peels - All You Should Know!

Glycolic Peels - All You Should Know!

A glycolic peel is a form of chemical peel that is widely used to deal with an array of skin conditions such as age spots, wrinkles, acne, tone, skin discoloration, etc. It has gained popularity in the past few years due to its unique ability to deal with a varied skin condition in a short time span. Glycolic peel requires successive session from ranging from half an hour to forty-five minutes depending on the requirement of the skin.

How does the peel work?
A glycolic peel is basically a form of glycolic acid. It is a translucent compound which is abundantly available in nature in the form of unripe grapes, cane sugar, and sugar beets. Being an alpha hydroxy acid, glycolic acid has many medical uses. Since the molecules of the glycolic acids are tinier than AHA, it can easily break into the deepest layer of the skin and fix issues that chemical treatments can’t. The best part is the fact that it is a natural promoter of skin regeneration and remover of dead, unwanted skin from the pores. It thereby improves the skin texture by forming collagen. Being anti-oxidic in nature, glycolic peels can strengthen capillaries, retain moisture and guard the skin against inflammation.

Which skin problems can glycolic peels guard against?
Glycolic peels can guard against aging, uneven texture, irregular pigmentation, moderate acne, fine lines, acne, age spots, superficial scarring, dark spots, discoloration in fair skin, etc.

Who can perform this treatment?
It requires a qualified doctor or a qualified medical aesthetician. Since the peels are acidic in nature, treatments under the wrong hand can do more harm than good. It requires an experienced hand to perform this treatment.

When is Glycolic acid peel applicable?
For this to be true, a skin consultation is required. An aesthetics take a call based on the type and color of the skin. Not everybody is a good candidate for this form of treatment. If an individual is undertaking Accutane, it is advised that she refrains from glycolic peels for at least six months to avoid unwanted skin injury.

What needs to be done after the treatment?
Glycolic peel treatment span across many sitting. In the initial few sitting, the skin might feel irritation, reddish and sensitive. Repeated sitting can help to get over this sort of symptoms as one gradually gets used to it. Post the treatment, not too many needs to be done by an individual. Care should be taken to ensure that the skin doesn’t get exposed to the sun too much. The UV rays of the sun can immensely damage the skin. At times, the skin might become a little flaky. This phenomenon is also known as frosting. Avoid flakiness to cut down skin irritation. Consult an Expert & get answers to your questions!
