I had fever 4 days back. Had been to a General Physician and they suggested some medicines. I have severe knee joint pain and ankle joint pain from 4 days. I shared the same to the GP and she told it is viral fever. The fever came down after a day itself. However the joint pain is still there. I am a breast feeding mother. Worried - could it be dengue or chikungunya?

Lybrate-user ji you are right you have chicken guniya. But do not worry you wil be alright in 2 months. But after you become alright you wil have to reduce your weight. Acording to your height your weight should be less than 67 kg. So reduce it by minimum 11 kg. For that you can join a gym.

Weight gain is muscle gain and not fat gain. In your condition your energy requirement is very high so whatever you eat is used as a source of energy and you do not make muscle. To gain muscles you will have to eat at least 6 meals (high calorie) in a day at a regular interval with a proper ratio of proteins and carbohydrates. Proteins will help you gain body mass while carbohydrates will help you give energy. Protein foods are eggs, fish, chicken, milk and milk products, meat and dals. Carbohydrate foods are roti and rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes. You have to eat vegetables and fuits and use healthy and good fats for cooking like ghee, cold pressed mustrad or til oil. You will also have to do some weight training exercise to help you build mass into the body. Also drink enough water to keep you hydrated.

Mix three teaspoons of lemon juice, one teaspoon of honey, and one-half teaspoon of black pepper powder in one cup of water. If you use freshly ground black pepper, then just add one-quarter teaspoon. Drink it in the morning on an empty stomach. Do this daily for at least three months.

To achieve weightloss - think long term. Weight loss achieved over short term, always comes back. There is a general approach and a specific approach as per individual patients metabolic profile. Try this general approach for 4 weeks. If this works then continue. If this is not enough then consult personally for further assessment and customized approach. With customized approaches people over 100-150 kg are also losing weight for long term. 1. Do not eat anything sugary or sweet. Zero sweetness in diet. 2. Eat plenty of salad in lunch and dinner along with other foods. 3. Do not drink any liquid calorie like cola or fruit juices. 4. Go for brisk walks or jogging for 45 minutes every day.

Hi I am 64, retired person, have undergone cabg 13 years ago. In dec 14, I experienced angina again. Ecg, tmt and ct angiogram confirmed that there are new blocks in the grafts. I have been advised to take vasodilators with other routine medicines. Another surgery or angioplasty were ruled out. My query is how long should I survive on vasodilators. Wouldn't I become resistant to this drug after some time. Is second surgery possible in my case. Is there no other option at all. For your kind information I walk 40 minutes daily without any significant pain though I feel some discomfort initially for a few minutes. I carry sorbitrate tablets always with me. Will this tablet help in an emergency. I would be grateful for your kind advice. With best regards.

DM Cardiology
Cardiologist, Delhi
Dear exact advise would not be possible without seeing your angiography cd, but whatever you have mentioned means you have now diffuse blockages in your grafts. Since a repeat angioplasty or bypass surgery is ruled out, there is a non-invasive modality called eecp, which can help you. This is a modality which helps in recruiting collateral arteries, in the patient, which are natural bypass arteries. You can contact us for the same. If you are having a loose vagina following vaginal delivery you should start doing regular pelvic floor exercises. If this still does not help in regaining the perineal and pelvic muscle tone you may need a surgical procedure.

Recently I read an article about the effect of wheat on diabetes. In the olden days, in India, diabetics were advised to avoid polished rice, our staple diet, and stick to a diet of wheat and wheat products. The above article highlighted the adverse effects of high-yielding varieties of wheat on diabetes. You will kindly appreciate that traditional varieties of wheat are no longer available. Grateful if you could kindly elaborate.

Though, there are many theories of dietary aspects in diabetes. But, nothing is accepted worldwide. Food preferences varies with region and even in our vast country rice is the staple diet in the east and south whereas wheat is mainly consumed in north and west. There have been studies, but none has shown any correlation with the staple cereal on diabetes prevalence. Many authors have blamed rice and claimed wheat based diet regimen for diabetic reversal, and vice-versa, but did not mention any conclusive evidence for the same. Current guidelines only mentions whole grains with high fibre content rather than processed foods.

Hello,Homeopathic medicines are less invasive and have more herbal approach towards gaining the weight. There are a number of homoeopathic medicines, which treat the root cause behind the body’s inability to gain weight or bulk up. 1. Take alfalfa tonic(wsi), 2 – 2 tsp. Thrice a day, half an hour before meals. 2. Calcarea phos 200, 5 drops , once in aweek , morning empty stomach for 2 weeks. 3. These homoeopathic medicines and dietary addition will increase your appetite and give your metabolism a healthy boost. ***If you do not get results with this treatment then please revert me i will suggest you to go through some tests.*** Thanks.

Being packed with protein, calcium, and fats, cheese helps obtain healthy weight gain. One serving of cheese can give enough calories to your body. It really tastes delicious. Choose cottage cheese as it contains high quality protein ‘casein’, which takes time to digest, and thus, results in weight gain. For quick result, eat it before bed time.

Hi lybrate-user, if your father follow the diet and do walk for 30 minutes in 5 days a week, he will control his diabetes, for that ask him to take one spoon fenugreek seed (soaked overnight) and take then in early morning daily, he should include all green leafy vegetable in his diet, multigrain cereals, nuts, avoid achaar, papad, sweet food items and artifical sweeteners. In fruits he can eat citrus fruits orange, mausambi, apple, pomegranate and other he can take but amount does matter, if you need the diet plan for him.

Don't run on an empty stomach. Eat something light 15-20 minutes before running. Also your abdominal and back muscles need to be worked out to make them stronger. Do crunches, leg raises, plank holds, hyperextension etc to make them stronger.
