We need to find the cause of halitosis. .it can be because of not drinking enough water, more of spicy diet, acidity problem, chronic sinusitie, diabetes etc. Deposists on teeth, gum infection. First consult dentist to rule out any causes. At home make a routine to clean your tongue, rinse your mouth with non alcohol based mouth wash, drink water, keep yourself hydrated, swish your mouth after every feed.

My tongue gets sore very frequently and it never gets healed 100%. Don't know the reason behind it. What could be wrong?

Everyone doesn't have pearl white teeth. Your teeth color matches your skin colour. You can go for scaling and polishing followed by bleaching for more whiter teeth.

You need to have x ray. Then only we can anticipate. So do not wait visit the dentist. But as a general health do brush twice your teeth. And do warm saline rinses 3 times a week. It will give you relief.

How to get rid of bad breath?

BDS
Dentist,
Kindly get scaling done and use mouth wash twice daily for 15 days. Brush your teeth twice daily using correct brushing technique. Also notice that you are not constipated most of the times as this is also of the reasons for bad breath.

Do not use your teeth for doing something other than chewing food. Using them for cracking nuts, removing bottle tops or ripping open packaging can result in chipped or broken teeth.

for cavities pastes do not help but avoidance of food [rice particle to chocolate] helps, but does not cure. U require fillings to RCTs depending on the severity / depth opf the cavity.

Swelling around your teeth could b due to the extensive decay causing abscess. Get an x ray n check with your dentist if dat tooth can b saved with rct or it has to b removed. Further delay in getting treated can complicate things. Meanwhile use bethadine mouthwash. Take care.

Sir my mouth has a foul smell what to do tried different kinds of paste and therapy but nothing worked. My tooth are ...
Dear lybrate-user, the foul smell in your mouth is due to accumulation of food debris, which is a result of inadequate maintenance of oral hygiene. I suggest that you get thorough professional cleaning/scaling done from a dentist, and use antibacterial mouthwashes thereafter. You should also clean your tongue twice daily with a tongue cleaner. Following all these measures will solve your problem. After that, you can head for tooth whitening procedures such as bleaching and laser tooth whitening. Home remedies such as lemon peel and apple cider vinegar can be used, but being acidic in nature, they eventually wear off the outermost layer of teeth (enamel) making them weak in the long run. So better to go for trusted scientific procedures. Hope that helps.

- use a soft toothbrush -- and brush properly! brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day and after meals. Hard brushing can further damage the soft tissues of your mouth. - floss at least once a day and be sure to floss beyond the gum line to remove more plaque. - control bleeding by applying pressure to the area with a cold compress. - rinse with salt water or hydrogen peroxide to keep the area clean. Avoid mouthwashes that contain alcohol, which can dry out your mouth. - stay away from smoking and other tobacco products, which can aggravate bleeding gums. - eat a balanced diet and limit snacking between meals. Carbohydrates and sugars feed dental plaque. - try an oral irrigation device, commonly known as a" water pick, to clear debris from around the gum line. - you may need deep cleaning along with surgical curettage or gum strengthening procedure. Use pepsodent tooth paste & gum paint for 2 to 3 weeks. Advance procedures can be done with laser. You may consult me in person.

Hello, sir my father have been recovered from cancer that is 1st n 2nd stage in neck behind the tongue he has been recover last year by month of september'2014. But still now he is not getting any taste while eating anything. He cannot eat spicy things. His tongue always remain dry due to saliva destroy, so how can he will be able to eat every thing specialy spicy.

BDS, MDS, MBA (Healthcare), FAM
Dentist, Hyderabad
Hello, I am inclined to believe that your father has undergone surgical procedure for a tongue cancer that had progressed to a 2nd stage! well let me try and explain to you in a very simple language about what has progressed and what cab be done. For a tonge cancer in the 2nd stage of neck nodal involvement the surgery involves the surgical removal of the affected part of the tongue with a safe margin of at least one centimeter around the lesion. Also due to the spread of the cancer cells to the neck lymph nodes even those have to be removed. This becomes an extensive procedure and some times the major part of the tongue needs to be removed. So a reconstruction of the tongue is planned where in some other body tissue is used to reconstruct the tongue. Also radiation therapy is also additionally given to the tongue area to completely kill the cancer cells. All these procedures will destroy some health cells also and majority of them which are on the surface are salivary cells which get destroyed. The nerves of the tongue also get affected and hence the loss of taste. The problem of dryness of the tongue will be persistent for a long time to come and there are chances even if very minute that these salivary glands might grow back and get back to normal function. But in the mean while he could use salivary substitutes that are available to keep his tongue moist. His taste sensation should also keep improving over time. Keep up the regular check ups with the doctor and ask him the details of the salivary substitute and the condition of the nerves supplying the tongue. Any queries I am willing to answer after you have given me more details about the procedure that was carried out. Thanks regards Dr. Siddharth bhalerao mds (oral and maxillofacial surgeon)

Having bad breath. I brush twice a day and use tongue cleaner and mouth wash.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist,
Having bad breath. I brush twice a day and use tongue cleaner and mouth wash.
Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. Kindly consult a physician & dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need deep cleaning & fill tooth cavities with artificial enamel filling. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash until then. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. You may consult me in person dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

After eating tongue gets some deposits called as plaque. Which is a very normal phenomenon. Just maintain your oral hygiene by brushing two times a day. Cleaning tongue, avoid lot of coffee and tea. Using warm saline gargles at least 3-4 times a day. This will help you with your throat pain as well.

Please send an iopa (xray ) of the tooth for detailed and correct diagnosis, yes the tooth can be re-root canal treated for optimal health of the tooth, if the tooth is badly broken and mobile, it can be extracted.
