Hello sir, I am taking glaucoma medication from last 3 years. I am 30yr old. My doctor says I need to take medicine for life long. Is there any alternative, if no then I am thinking of trying ayurvedic, please advise.

FICO, Specialist in Cataract,Cornea and refractive surgeries , MD - Ophthalmology
Ophthalmologist, Srinagar
If you have been diagnosed as a case of glaucoma, then there is no other option but to continue medication life long. Surgery is indicated only when medical therapy fails, as results are unpredictable. Sorry I have no knowledge of ayurvedic medications. Use any medicine after proper consultation.

You are 21 years old& now there is no chance of increase in Myopic power because in girl power gets stabilised by. 19 yrs. You are myopic by around -1.5 D, it is very less power &may use contact lens in stead of glass but I will not advise you for LASIK or Smile LASIK because there is lots of advantage in later life if you are myopic by around -2D.

It has got nothing to do with blindness or become old like 40 years old. Squint correction is very important for binocularity that is two eyes seeing together at one point. And if your squint does not improve with glasses then most likely it needs to be treated surgically .Because you are already 23 years old so not much of gain in binocularity is expected even after surgery. Need complete eye check up by a Ophthalmologist.

Are there treatments for my red eye condition? When should the treatment start and how long will it last? What are the benefits of this treatment and how successful is it?

Redness of the eyes has multiple causes associated with it. To enumerate a few common causes: (1)Allergy of the eye. It is usually caused by improper eye hygiene. There is a tendency to rub the eyes with fingers, handkerchief, cloth, etc. This is not a good habit because it tends to transmit lots of virus, bacteria and dust into the eye. Allergy usually presents with symptoms of watering (clear water), redness and itching of the eye. (2)Infectious conjunctivitis : this is usually associated with white-yellowish discharge. If so, it would be a good idea to go and show to an eye specialist in person. (3)Foreign body lodged in the eye. This is more commonly associated with people who drive 2 wheeler vehicles without protection. It occurs more commonly in one eye. Foreign bodies that commonly get lodged are eyelashes, insect wings, small insects, dust particles, iron particles(more common with people working in the iron industry) The solution for a foreign body lodged in the eye would be better provided by an eye specialist AT THE CLINIC. (4)Raised intraocular pressure: This is a condition known as glaucoma. it is not so common as the previous mentioned conditions. There is usually associated pain in the eyes. It is commonly bilateral(occurs in both eyes). There is usually a positive family history of glaucoma associated in a majority of the cases. (5)Inflammation of the coats of the eyeball. This is known as "uveitis". It is also a relatively less common condition. There is associated pain. It would require a thorough eye checkup including the retina-thus a good idea would be to visit the eye specialist in person. I would once like to have a look at your eyes personally in order to tell you what the cause is for your redness. Let me know whenever feasible for you. Hope my suggestions helped you. Take care, regards-Dr. Chaitanya.

My numbers in my eyes are -5.50 and -5.75. So what should I do to maintain my eyes. Is this condition really serious?

My numbers in my eyes are -5.50 and -5.75.
So what should I do to maintain my eyes. Is this condition really serious?
Hello, follow the below tips to strengthen your eye muscles. Exercises for eyes: Warm your eyes. Rub your palms together to create heat, and then place them against your eyes for five seconds. Repeat this three times. Roll your eyes. Start by looking up and then slowly circle 10 times clockwise and 10 times counterclockwise. Focus. Hold a pen at arm's length, focus your eyes on it, and slowly bring the pen closer until it's about 6 inches away from your nose. Then slowly move it back, keeping your eyes focused on the pen, 10 times in all. Massage your temples. Using your thumb knuckles, massage your temples in small circles, 20 times in one direction and 20 in the other. Repeat the same actions above the mid-point of the eyebrows at the forehead, then below the eyes on both sides of the bridge of the nose. Take a mini-nap. Put your head back, close your eyes, and relax for 3 minutes. Insufficient sleep may weaken your vision, so shoot for 8 hours of sound sleep a night. Rest your eyes 10 minutes for every 50 minutes spent reading or in front of the computer. If your eyes feel overly tired, lie down and place cooling cucumber slices over your eyelids. Medication: Take homoeopathic medicine which will help you in preventing rather reducing the power of your eyes. Take Physostigma 6/ thrice daily for 1 month. Thereafter, revert back for further guidance.

Homoeopathic treatment GLOW CARE CREAM ( LORDS) Apply during daytime REPL No 11 ( REPL ) 20 drops in 1 spoon water 3 timess daily AQUIPLUS CREAM ( HAPDCO ) apply thick coat on face at night CLEANO FACE WASH ( LORDS ) Wash face with this face wash before applying creams 6-8 glass water daily 2 glasss milk daily Avoid fast food,Junk food,Fried food,Chocklates,Dry fruits,Ketchups,Cold drinks Take nutritious diet nd exercise regularily HOME REMEDIES for Dark Cicles Slice up a papaya. Papaya fruit contains the enzyme papain. Papain helps exfoliate the skin, making way for new skin cells to emerge. Papaya also contains Vitamin C and Vitamin E, so it's a dark spot fading superstar. Papain is most concentrated while the papaya is still green, but you can use riper fruit as well. Peel and remove the seeds from a papaya, and try one of the following treatments: 1. Slice a piece off of the papaya, and lay or hold it on the dark spots that you want to get rid of. Hold it there for 20-30 minutes. Repeat twice a day for best results. 2.Make a papaya facial mask. Cut the papaya into chunks, then use a blender or food processor to blend the fruit into a smooth paste. Apply the mask to your face and neck. Leave it on for about 30 minutes, then rinse well.

For allergy, there are two steps: first is to control it. Please consult a doctor and get proper treatment so that it is controlled at the earliest. As your eyes re red & puffy, home remedies will not help. Second step is to find a cause. When ever your eyes are red & swollen, try to recollect, to what, you were exposed in last 24 hours hours- make a list every time. You may be able to pin point the causative agent. Avoid that in future to avoid allergy.

Diabetic Retinopathy - Understanding the Stages of Disorder!

MS - Ophthalmology, MBBS
Ophthalmologist, Noida
Diabetic Retinopathy - Understanding the Stages of Disorder!

Also termed as diabetic eye disease, this is a disease in which the retina gets damaged due to diabetes. This usually leads to blindness. In most cases, as inferred from various studies, this affects people who have had diabetes for more than 20 years. Diabetic retinopathy can also be a problem for women during pregnancy. With proper monitoring and treatment, this disease can be cured. One major way to prevent this disease could be by regulating diabetes.

Signs and symptoms
Like many other eye disorders, this too has no warning signs. However, in general, people with macular edema are likely to have blurred vision, making it hard for the individuals to carry out tasks like driving and reading. In most cases, if not treated, the situations may worsen with time.

Stages of disorder

  1. Initial stage: In the initial stage, it is called non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy. There are generally no visible symptoms and patients may even have a normal 20/20 vision. The only way to detect non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy is by fundus photography in which the microscopic bulges that are filled with blood can be detected in the artery walls. In case, the patient suffers from reduced vision, to see the back of the eye, a fluorescein angiography is performed. This way the blocked and narrowed retinal blood vessels are visible. The lack of blood flow due to blocked blood vessels is called ischemia. Macular edema can occur at any stage of non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy. In this condition, the contents of the blood vessels leak into the macula region, thereby causing blurred vision, distorted images, etc. In such cases, optical coherence tomography can be carried out to show the areas in which retinal thickening has occurred.
  2. Second stage: The second stage is termed as proliferative diabetic retinopathy. In this stage, occurrence of new abnormal blood vessels is seen. These form at the back of the eye. These blood vessels are fragile and hence can easily burst and bleed, thereby causing the vision to blur. If this occurs for the first time, it may not be severe. Only a few specs of blood or spots floating on the visual field of the patients can be noticed. Within a few days, these spots may enlarge and the leakage of blood may increase, which can impact vision. The blood might take a few days till a year to clear entirely. In some circumstances, the blood might not clear at all. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an Ophthalmologist.

Foreign Objects in The Eye - Ways You Can Deal With It!

MBBS, MS - Ophthalmology
Ophthalmologist, Delhi
Foreign Objects in The Eye - Ways You Can Deal With It!

Excessive blinking or the urge to rub your eyes is most often caused by foreign objects in your eyes. This foreign object can be anything from your own eye lash to dust or a shard of metal. The area these foreign objects affect is the cornea or the conjunctiva. It can scratch the cornea causing an infection of affecting your vision if not treated in time. A foreign object usually enters your eye as a result of a high impact collision or force like wind etc. Some of the symptoms of having a foreign object in your eye include:

  1. Pressure or discomfort in the eye
  2. Pain in the eye
  3. Excessive tearing and clear or bloody discharge from the eye
  4. Increased sensitivity to light
  5. Redness in the eye

Blinking continuously a few times can dislodge some types of foreign objects. If it affects your vision or causes constant tearing consult a doctor. Do not attempt to rub your eyes in an effort to remove the object. Instead restrict the movement of your eye until a doctor can remove the irritant. To avoid further injury to the eye, bandage the eye with a clean cloth. If the object does not allow you to close your eye, cover it with a paper cup and bandage it. Do not use anything, such as tweezers or cotton directly on the eye.

In some cases, the irritants can be seen with the naked eye. If you think something is stuck in your eye, wash your hands and look at your eye under a bright light. Pulling the lower lid down and flipping the upper eye lid can allow you to see the eye more clearly. To remove a foreign object under the upper eyelid submerge the eye in a flat bowl of water and rapidly open and close it a few times. This can help flush the object out of your eye. Alternatively pour a glass of warm water over your eye while keeping them open. Washing the eye can help get rid of irritants stuck under the lower eyelid.

In more serious cases, anesthetic drops are used to numb the eye. The eye will then be observed under a magnifying glass to see the extent of the injury. Your doctor may use several methods to remove the irritant depending on its size and extent of penetration. You may also be given medication to help deal with the pain caused by the object. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an Ophthalmologist.

Hello eye pain has no relation with glasses this must be due to dryness 1. Blink a lot 2. Cold compresses 3. Use lubricating eyedrops if pain persists, consult local ophthalmologist.
