When a woman is pregnant they crave a lot of what seems like peculiar foods, including non-food substances. It is believed to be sometimes related to a deficiency. In your case of slate consumption could indicate a deficiency of iron. Anyway it is advisable to go for a thorough medical check up and see if there is any deficiency in any vitamins or minerals. Since it is a non-food item it is better to avoid it and supplement your diet, if there is any deficiency. Food itself is so toxic for various reasons and chemical substances may be even more highly contaminated, and therefore it is best avoided. Anything that you consume and enters the blood will affect the unborn child!

Swollen and inflamed veins in the rectum and anus that cause discomfort and bleeding. Other factors that increase the risk for getting hemorrhoids include constipation, diarrhea, lifting heavy objects, poor posture, prolonged sitting, pregnancy, eating a diet low in fibre, anal intercourse, and being overweight. Liver damage and some food allergies can also add stress to the rectal veins. People who consistently eat a high-fiber diet are less likely to get hemorrhoids, while those people who prefer a diet high in processed foods are at higher risk. A low-fiber diet or inadequate fluid intake can cause constipation, which can contribute to hemorrhoids in two ways: it promotes straining on the toilet People do not consider homeopathy medicine for piles at its early stages and this is one of the reason why they end up under a surgeon's knife. Hair loss or Alopecia is an extremely emotionally distressing hair disorder. Hair loss can be of many types, the most common being androgenetic alopecia which refers to male pattern baldness or female pattern baldness. Natural remedies can significantly improve this hair disorder. Telogen effluvium is another hair disorder which appears as a diffuse thinning of hair on the scalp and is caused by a change in the number of hair follicles growing hair. This condition is totally reversible. Another common form of hair loss is the Alopecia areata (AA). It is an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system attacks the hair follicles. Other types of alopecia such as scarring alopecia can cause lot of damage and permanent hair loss. Again, congenital hypotrichosis is a hair disorder that involves genetic aberrations or defects of embryonic development. Causes of hair loss • Hormonal imbalance • Dandruff or lice • Problems with bowel movement • Certain drugs and chemicals • Anemia, weakness after diseases, stress and anxiety • Genetic aberrations Remedies for hair loss Most of the remedies for hair loss are applied to the hair, whereas others are for regular internal consumption that helps prevent hair loss. Certain precautions and lifestyle changes can also help prevent hair fall. Some of the natural remedies are listed here. Massages and application • Massage the head with hot olive oil for 15-20 minutes and then wash it off with shampoo. This can effectively reduce hair fall. • Apply a mixture of lemon juice and amla (Phyllanthus emblica) and wash it off after half an hour. This helps control dandruff. • Mix neem (Azadirachta indica) oil with coconut oil and massage the head for 15-20 minutes. Wash it off with shampoo. Alternatively, boil neem leaves in water for an hour and let it cool. Wash the hair with this water. This helps reduce hair fall. • Massage juice of fresh coriander onto the scalp to reduce hair loss. • Apply a well blended paste made from pigeon pea and red gram on the hair and scalp and leave it on for about half an hour. Wash it off. This remedy helps treat hair loss and baldness. • Add 1 gm of ground black pepper in 100 gm of curd/yogurt and apply to the scalp. Wash hair with warm water. Applying it once a week will stop further hair loss. Lifestyle changes • Stress and tension is known to cause hair loss. So, learn to relax. Try to reduce stress and tension in your life through yoga and meditation. • Diet and nutrition also plays an important role in hair growth and maintenance. Include plenty of fresh fruits and leafy vegetables in your diet. Pay special attention to your breakfast. • Conditioners can damage hair roots. Take care to apply conditioner (after shampooing) only on the hair and not to the scalp or hair roots. Herbal and Ayurvedic remedies for hair loss Ayurvedic treatment involves attacking the root cause of the disorder. It is believed that excess of Pitta dosha in the body is the main cause of hair disorders. Pitta is increased by excessive consumption of tea, coffee, alcohol, and excessive smoking. Oily, spicy, and acidic foods also tend to increase Pitta. So the first step is to change the diet or lifestyle conditions responsible for increasing Pitta dosha. Regular physical exercise and inclusion of fresh fruits and green vegetables in the diet is useful in correcting hair disorder. Irregular bowel movement and constipation can indirectly affect hair health. A mild laxative or Triphala (Ayurvedic preparation) can be useful in such cases. We are born with 5 million hair follicles of which only one million hair (shafts) show up on the head. Five million hair follicles is the maximum we can have because we do not generate new hair follicles during our lives. Drinking a mixture of lettuce juice and spinach juice regularly helps induce hair growth by stimulating the dormant hair follicles. Alfalfa juice, carrot juice, and lettuce juice mixed in equal proportion also serves the same purpose. Grind licorice in milk and apply the paste on the bald patches of the scalp. This helps induce hair growth. There is a special Ayurvedic treatment for hair loss and it is called ‘Thala podichil’. The treatment involves application of an herbal pack for 21 days. The herbal pack consists of just one herb or a mixture of herbs depending upon the constitution of the patient. An Ayurvedic remedy prepared from Bhringaraj herb (Eclipta alba), Amla (Phyllanthus emblica), corals, iron, and black sesame seeds is very beneficial for treating hair loss as well as graying of hair. Oil massage helps stop hair loss. Gently massage the scalp with coconut oil or mustard oil at least three times a week. Herbal massage oils such as Mahabhringaraj oil, Amla oil, or Arnica oil are also very useful in controlling hair fall. Since chemicals and certain drugs are responsible for causing hair loss, it is best to use natural shampoos or soaps to clean the hair. Here’s a home made recipe for shampoo – Soak dried fruits of Amla (Phyllanthus emblica), Reetha (Sapindus detergens), and Shikakai (Acacia concinna) overnight and boil the mixture in the morning. Allow it to cool before using it as natural shampoo. Yoga and meditation also help control hair fall by reducing stress and other hair loss causing conditions. Vajransana, Pawanmuktasana, the camel pose, are some of the important yogasanas that help tackle hair problems. Although there is no dearth of hair loss treatments available in the market, natural remedies for hair loss can be a feasible option if we consider the fact that it has no side effects, it is easily available, and it is relatively inexpensive.

Hi lybrate-user, mental diseases as you term it is (are of various types from mild to severe} how you feel, behave or perceive things or beings around you, caused due to emotional imbalance due to incidental, emotional, or changes internally. The problem you have is due to emotional distress caused by some incident, which you have not mentioned. Depressive individuals do behave abnormally to others, it happens but as days go on they become normal. It is like a season that comes and then goes, you have got to give some time for your depression to get healed naturally and through other ways may be diverting your mind or concentrating on something else which you are more interested like your good habits like playing, music, game or any other hobby should be more addictive to these, the only way to come out from depression. I suggest you to become more occupied in any one of your good hobbies, eat what you like the most, sleep well and if you can attend mind relaxation yoga classes. Definitely you can come out of depression and become more jovial. Try to follow step by step slowly and then let me know or call if in case you have any trouble or doubts regarding the same. Best wishes psy. Msv.

Benefits of Honey -

Hi, As per your height and age, you are over-weight. Reduce at least 10-12 kgs of weight. It's good to reduce weight at right time as many problems are directly related to overweight! Remember, there's no magic bullet for weight loss. The key to losing weight is burning more calories than you consume. Choose a variety of healthy foods — such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean sources of protein — and include physical activity in your daily routine. Go through the following guidelines and implement them in your routine: Management: 1: Drink plenty of water (at least 2-3 l/d) or other calorie-free beverages. 2: Be choosy about nighttime snacks. 3: Enjoy your favorite foods. 4: Have 6 meals per day - 3 main courses and 3 snack meals (snack meals should be healthy). 5: Do regular exercises daily (start with light and later may be little vigorous). Exercise decreases the stress hormone in your body, burns calories and also increases the blood circulation. Preferably brisk walking, swimming, cycling, skipping. 6: Eat seasonal fruits. Fruit helps to satisfy your sweet tooth thanks to its natural sugars, while fresh vegetables help you fill up more quickly. Fruits and vegetables contain fiber to help you feel full quickly. 7: Eat more whole grains and cut simple carbs. Whole wheat bread, oatmeal, whole wheat pasta, sweet potato, and brown rice are all excellent sources of energy and sources of nutrition. 8: Choose lean proteins instead of fatty ones. 9: Cut the salt from your diet. Eating more sodium causes your body to retain water, which can cause you to feel bloated and gain more weight. 10: Don't skip meals. When you skip meals, your body stops breaking down fat and starts breaking down muscle tissue. Muscle tissue burns more calories at rest than other tissues, so you're actually working against your goals 11: Eat at home. Going out to eat makes it too easy to cheat. Food sold at restaurants is commonly much higher in fat, sodium, and other weight-loss killers. 12: Give yourself a treat now and then. If you're attending a party or going out for a special occasion, allow yourself an indulgence. Just make sure that these indulgences don't become daily habits. 13: Go for a health walk. Gear up yourself daily for a health walk which not only shed off your extra calorie, but also reduces the stress levels. 14: Take small frequent breaks for a quick walk in between as sitting for long hours together encourages the accumulation of fat in the body! Medication: Take homoeopathic medicine - Schwabe's Phytolacca Berry tablets/ thrice daily 1/2 an hr before the meals for 3 months. Thereafter revert me back for further guidance. (Slow and steady weight loss is good. As we all know when you lose weight fast, it seems to jump right back on, where as when you lose weight steadily over time because of changes to your diet and balancing your hormones out it tends to stay off.) All the best! *****Consult your doctor if you do have any medical condition and get your thyroid function test done*****

5 Tips To Handle Separation Anxiety In Toddlers!

M.A. Counseling Psychology
Psychologist, Mumbai
5 Tips To Handle Separation Anxiety In Toddlers!

At some point of time, an infant will separate from the mother or father for a while. The infant may scream, cry and/or show resistance to getting separated. This is an absolutely normal response by the infant as he/she is taken away from his/her caregiver. Children experience this separation anxiety at different ages, mostly between 8 months to 2 and a half years of age. Though separation anxiety is a part of the child's development, it is distressing for the parents to see their child upset. At times, parents feel more upset than the children. Children can sense parent's disturbance may feel more anxious. Hence, knowing what is causing the child's anxiety, would help in reducing the baby's disturbance as well the parents.

Separation anxiety can be short-lived or last for a very long time if not addressed appropriately. If parents give in to their child's anxiety, children learn that crying or screaming is a way of stopping the parent from leaving.

The child will learn to feel protected comforted that the parents always return home when they leave. The child also learns to be independent  cope in a healthy manner.

Here are several ways that can help relieve your child's separation anxiety:

1. Keep the timing in mind

Avoid sending your child to daycare centres or leaving the child with a new person that child isn't completely familiar with. Plan going out when the child's needs are met, especially during the child's nap time or post meal time.

2. Step by step

When you have to introduce some new person or a new place that the child has to get used to in your absence, take it slow. Invite the person at home  interact with him/her in front of the child. Involve the child gradually in the play. Then you can go down to do your household shopping leaving the child alone with the person. If the child is starting with school or daycare centre, take the child for a visit  spend time by playing with him/her. Child will get familiar with the place the people there when you would not be around.

3. Ritual

Develop a ritual that you always use when you say goodbye. For instance" see ya later, alligator, or a short song or some action. Remind your child you are going to come back. However, stay calm as your calmness would be reassuring for your child. If you appear guilty or sad or anxious, your child is likely to feel even more tense about parting from you, since you seem unsure about whether you're doing the right thing to leave her.

4. Don't sneak away

Make sure you say goodbye to your child, rather than sneak away. It is important that your child sees you leave and also sees you come back.

5. Keep your promise

If you have told your child that you would be back before lunch time, make sure you make it. Your child will feel certain in the future, that when you leave, you will eventually come back.

6. Souvenir

You can let your child take a toy, or any other comforting object along with him/her to school to feel safe in the new environment.

Always make sure you leave your child with a sitter or caretaker you trust. If it makes you feel better, have the sitter or caretaker call you when the child has calmed down. This will give you some idea of how long your child's separation anxiety last.

The caretaker can distract the child with an interesting toy or play a game or sing a song when you are about to leave the child alone. The caretaker should avoid talking about the child's parents. If the child asks about her mother, the caretaker can answer, and soon distract the child.

Remember, separation anxiety is a way for your child to learn to be independent and that this is a normal process of growing up.

You must meet with a counselor first and if that person advises that you meet with a doctor too. Please do so immediately. You must investigate if the origin of this problem is from childhood or of recent origins. If it is recent, you will be able to pin-point the episode. If not, talk to your parents and see if they remember any incidents from your childhood, even in prenatal life, of any contributing factors. The counselor will be able to help out with this information. You can follow these simple rules too: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least 30 minutes but not in the scotching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. Don’t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, you need to live in love and for love: find someone to love and to love you back, if you are not married already. A counselor is there only to facilitate you, all the hard word must come from you, and your cooperation with that person is very critical for your success. Be positive everyday and learn to be contended with what you have. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly.

It all started in Mar?92 in Chittaranjan, India(It is a small railway town). I got high fever with chills in the evening and overnight my right leg got swollen. Then doctors at local railway hospital gave some antibiotics to subsidize the fever. Pus was formed after couple of days at the bottom of the ankle. They operated and removed all the pus and infected blood. Then they did dressing for two weeks and the leg become normal. They have advised me to take tablet Hetrazan(diethylcarbamazine) 100 mg thrice daily for two months. In Nov'93 I again got the same type of fever, the local doctor thought it as malaria and gave medicines for the same for one week. When the fever has not come down due to above medicines, after initial blood tests and other examinations he diagnosed it as Filariasis. He started the course for Filariasis like Banocide forte, Florocid injection(Sodium fluoride),weekly once, Hetrazan(diethylcarbamazine) 100 mg thrice daily etc.I used the medicines for one year. The swelling subsidized little bit. In Jun'95 I went to Bangalore and consulted doctors at St. Johns Medical College, they did various tests like growth hormone, Eye Perimetry, CT Scan etc(all normal) and diagnosed that there might be minute tumor in brain. Afterwards they ruled out that also. In Nov'95 some of my friends suggested to take homeopathy medicines as there are medicines for this type of diseases in Homeopathy. I took Medicines from renowned Homeopathy doctor. I took those medicines for 2 years. While using these medicines I got swelling on my hands also. In Nov'97 I consulted a renowned internal medicine physician he did all the tests and advised to consult Endocrinologist who is a professor in a teaching institute. In Mar'98 I got high fever with the swelling in Left leg. I was admitted at local railway hospital in Chittaranjan, India and they gave some antibiotics to reduce my fever. For swelling they said they cannot do anything. In Jun'98 I consulted a doctor, who was head of Department of Endocrinologist Osmania University, Hyderabad, India . He has ruled out clearly my disease relating to his department. He has advised to consult General Physician. Then I consulted the general physician, who was a teaching professor at Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, India. Through examining my case history and symptoms he diagnosed it as Filariasis I consulted various doctors at Apollo hospital (Hyderabad, India), there also they ruled out anything related to Endocrinology, There they did Lymphography test in which they diagnosed (pure drainage of lymphatic system) it as congenital lymphedema(Enclosed the report). Then in Jul'98 I went to Command Hospital (Armed Forces Medical College) Pune, India there also doctors done all the tests like MRI of brain and Growth hormone for Acromegaly or Gigantism but the test results were normal. One of our relative told to check in Unani (traditional medicine) that if there is any medicine as they are doing research in these kind of diseases; I went to Bhadrak, Orissa, India (Research Centre for Filariasis) and took Unani medicine for 6 years i.e till May'04. By using this medicine the frequent fever I used to get regularly has stopped and the swelling also subsided to some extent. In May'05 I again got the same type of fever with chills and I was admitted to command hospital Pune. My left leg got infected and the doctors operated and removed the entire puss and infected blood. Referred the case to plastic surgeon; the plastic surgeon ruled out plastic surgery as the swelling will again recur after two three years. He told to take Lymphapress therapy. He has told to do compress treatment (Putting the legs upwards with support of pillows while sleeping and crepe bandaging the legs in day time.). And also told to use Penicillin injection once in 21 days, so that it will minimize the chances of fever. After this I relocated to Hyderabad due to change in job. During these nine years I found that swelling is increasing gradually. In May'12 I went to Madurai, India and consulted a doctor of Gurumithren Hospital, he also done all type of investigations and advised me for surgery. He has advised for the bypass of the lymph nodes. Also the hospital was not that renowned and not well medically equipped. I felt the surgery little bit complicating. Also my family members were afraid that at present I able to walk and do my work and job, if suppose after such complicated surgery any secondary complication happens then I will be bedridden for life long. Even I took second opinion of the surgeons/Plastic Surgeons here in Hyderabad but they also ruled out any surgery for it. At present I am using compressive bandages and taking penicillin once in three weeks. Also I am using Ayurvedic (traditional Indian medicine) since last two years. As the swelling is increasing gradually I am finding difficulty in walking for long distance(around 1-2 miles) etc. so I consulted a Plastic Surgeon doctor at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, India for any recent medical advancements. He has examined my case and advised to use Lymphapress Pump and told to contact you. please do help as i have went to many institutes for the same. it would be helpful if i get any advice from here.

Hi. You have suffered a lot. But unfortunately you have either filariasis or congenital lumphedema with intermittant infection. The result of lymphovascular anastomosis or nodo venous shunt depends on the lymphangiography findings. If there are channels which are open, the results can be dramatic. We need to analyse your lymphoscintography befor e commenting on the surgery. Till then continue with lympha press and massage and limb elevation,
