I am felling that I am over weight and I want some strict diet plans to reduce my weight. Any suggestions please.
Once you reached your ideal body weight your body will try to maintain it, here you didn't mentioned your weight and height so I don't know you are in your ideal weight or not. Normally through exercise and proper food intake you can maintain your weight in a healthier way. First you have to make a proper plan for your normal day, like according to your convenience set proper timing for your food intake and exercise. Next plan is what you are going to eat and how you are going to do exercise, If there, for a time period avoid the intake of alcohol, soft drinks, deep fried items, sweets and pastries. At a time if you are taking more calories that will make you fat, eg: with lunch if you are taking soft drinks or juices or with break fast if you are taking tea or coffee, You can have that tea, coffee or juices in between your main meals like mid morning, evening. Maintain 2 to 2.5 hours gap between your each meals including your mid morning and evening snacks. With your each cereal intake include vegetables as a form of curry, subji, salad etc. With your diet don't stick with a particular vegetable and fruits, try to include all different colored vegetables and fruits. Include fruits in mid morning or evening. Start with low grade exercises about 20 min and gradually increase up to one hour. Take at least 3 liter of water. What I said all are general instructions, Customized plan only possible after getting your complete details.

Diabetic - How Insulin Therapy Can Help?

Diabetic - How Insulin Therapy Can Help?

What is insulin therapy?
Insulin is a hormone that is responsible for keeping the level of sugar in the blood under control. It is the primary therapy used for the treatment of any type of diabetes. The dependence on insulin depends on the balance between the actual production of insulin in the body and the resistance of the body cells to the insulin produced. People, who suffer from diabetes type 1, need insulin injections lifelong. The requirement for insulin therapy in people suffering from type 2 diabetes solely depends upon the declining function of the beta-cells over time.

What are the types of insulin available in the market?
The various types of insulin available in the market are:

  1. Rapid acting insulin: The onset of action in this type of insulin is rapid and it lasts for a short duration, about two hours.
  2. Short acting or regular insulin: The onset of action is moderate, and it starts acting within half an hour, and the duration of action ranges from 3 to 6 hours.
  3. Intermediate acting insulin: It takes about 2 to 4 hours for the onset of action of this type of insulin and the effect can remain for about 18 hours.
  4. Long acting insulin: The duration of action of this type of insulin can last up to about an entire day.

How is it taken?
Insulin injections can be self-injected using a syringe, a needle, a cartridge system, or a pre-filled pen system. Devices for inhaling insulin, quick-acting insulin and insulin pumps are also available at medical stores and pharmacies. Insulin is injected subcutaneously, into your muscles. Try to ensure that you inject around the same area every time, but choose a different spot to ensure less scarring. The best areas to inject insulin are thighs, buttocks, arms and belly. If you take regular insulin, it is advised to take it half an hour before a meal.

What are the possible side effects?

  1. Low blood sugar level
  2. Scars and lumps from extensive usage of insulin injection
  3. Rashes can be found in the area the insulin is injected or sometimes, all over the body
  4. Weight gain when you start using insulin initially

If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an endocrinologist.

It is not good to have so much weight in the body as it can cause a lot of health issues. But you can always reduce it by eating clean and exercising well. Reducing body fats takes some time and there are no quick fixes. To maintain a low body fat and/or lower body fat: 1.Exercise at least 5 times per week 2.Eat whole/unprocessed foods at regular intervals, while being aware of physical hunger/fullness cues 3.Sleep 7-9 hours per night 4.Don’t engage in extreme diets 5.Stay consistent with your habits 6.Incorporate non-exercise physical activity 7.Ignore food advertising You need a fat loss diet which comprises of whole grains like jowar, bajra, wheat, brown rice, pulses like moong, musoor, bengal gram, lots of vegetables, fruits, eggs, fish, chicken, paneer, healthy oil, nuts and seeds. You need to eat them in right proportion. Avoid eating sugar and sweets, refined foods like maida, noodles pasta, White rice and products, bread. Drink a lot of water.

I am anemic. What food should I eat to improve my health and to stay fit? Please advise me.
You can include iron, folic acid and vitamin b 12 rich foods in your diet like whole egg, leafy vegetables (esp laal saag & kulekhara saag), plantain (kacha kela), bajra, soybean, dates, poppy seeds (posto), black gingelly seeds (kala til). If hb level is < 10, kulekhara water (100-150 ml/day every alternate day till levels become normal) can be included along with other dietary sources. If supplementation may be needed if hb levels are very low (<8) - spirulina capsule. Vitamin c sources like guava, lemon, raw (capsicum, cabbage, green chilies), sprouts should also be included for iron availability. High biological value proteins like egg, fish, chicken, dairy products (curd, buttermilk, lassi, milk, channa) should also be included along with other protein sources like nuts, oilseeds, pulse, cereal-pulse combinations for haemoglobin formation.
