the pitch of voice is determined by lots of things like genetics, hormones, etc. Males are usually appreciated for thick husky voice, and females for sweet voice. I am surprised u want a sweet voice, like female. U can t do anything about nature, so enjoy what u have and live happily

Dear lybrate-user, welcome to lybrate. Memory and mind power depends mainly on three aspects. Understanding, storage and recollection. To understand what you are studying, you must be able to be attentive or concentrate. Concentration is possible when you are interested in that subject. Creative way of learning can help you concentrate and understand easily. When you are able to understand and concentrate, it is stored within your brain. If you read more and more it will be store in long term memory. Third part is retrieval. Whenever you want to retrive what you learned and stored, your brain gets the request, searches the database and retrieves the information for you. The retrieval may prove to be difficult if you are anxious, stressed, worried or tired physically or mentally. Retrieval is more easy when you are relaxed and healthy. Brain needs nutrients to keep itself sharp. Fruits, vegetables and dry fruits provide much needed nutrients for your brain. Include at least one fruit in your daily diet. Physical exercises, entertainment, hobbies, relaxation, memory games like sudoku etc help keep your memory sharp and active. Take care.

Hello. I am 22. I was in relationship with two guys before n it all ended up bad. I am very concerned person who gives too much important to others. I happened to fall in love with a guy 4 years younger to me He was so much into me that even I got addicted. But he has started acting weird n we barely talk. Now I'm the one literally behind him n it's hurting my ego. I dunno why I've always been dumped by boys I'm not ugly I suppose n I take care of them a lot. I dunno what is my mistake.

Masters in Clinical Psychology
Psychologist, Lucknow
At this age, people rarely take relationships seriously. They try to experiment and sometimes turn to the options most suitable to their needs and may not stick to it for longer period. You do not have to blame yourself - sometimes its not about us its about them. All you can do is be good in relation but also give space to the guy. After all your efforts if someone chose to leave its their wish and you should accept it. The right person will always stay. You are young do not form opinion on guys relationships and yourself. You are yet to experience a lot of good things.

Dear lybrate user, this seems like a viral infection. Take one tablet of paracetamol 500 mg 3-4 times a day for the body pain and fever. For your blocked nose, take steam inhalation 3-4 times a day (10-15 min session); for the cough please do warm salt water gargles in the morning and night. Alternately, you could take any over the counter cold cough preparation. Try not smoking (or atleast reduce) to ease your throat. In case you do not deel better in 3 days or the fever increases, please consult a doctor as certain tests might need to be done before he/ she initiates any antibiotics and other treatment. Take care!

Loss of interest, appetite, anxiety, worthlessness, social isolation indicates what?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Loss of interest, appetite, anxiety, worthlessness, social isolation indicates what?
All these are indications of depression, probably due to age and lack of occupation. He needs to feel worthy and may need to talk about a lot of things about his past. He just needs a good listener and something useful to do. He could also do with some travelling and spiritual pursuits. He needs to meet with his peers and socialize some. What about his wife? if she is around, they could visit relatives together, both in town and those living outside. He may find that he is useless in the present scenario of this fast moving world, and that he is insignificant. He may be encouraged to read; and where it is possible, if his health permits, to do some child care with his grand-kids. He can also find some role in any social work organization too. If these are not followed, he may waste away his twilight years and age faster than normal.

I have a bad habit of chewing tobacco. And now I want to stop eating that. Can you say what steps should I take to stop chewing tobacco?

BASM, MD, MS (Counseling & Psychotherapy), MSc - Psychology, Certificate in Clinical psychology of children and Young People, Certificate in Psychological First Aid, Certificate in Positive Psychology
Psychologist, Palakkad
Dear lybrate-user, Welcome to Lybrate. Chewing tobacco addiction also comes under abuse and addiction. If you’re ready to stop the substance and willing to get the support you need, you can recover from addiction and abuse —no matter how bad the addiction or how powerless you feel. The first step in treating addiction is accepting that you have a problem. Confronting an addiction and accepting responsibility for your actions isn’t easy. But it’s a necessary step on the road to treatment and recovery. You should then consult a psychiatrist / psychologist who fill follow this treatment. 1. Detoxification using medicines. 2. Behavior modification with the help of therapies. 3. Counseling. 4. Medication to sustain and 5. Long term support. These given steps are essential for any addict to get effectively rid of addiction. Therefore, you need to stick to the treatment plan. Take care.

Hi lybrate-user, it seems you have dissociation along with depression. Dissociation is a common phenomenon. Most people will experience dissociation at some point in their lives. It becomes a disorder, like in dissociative identity disorder (DID), when it is so frequent or severe that it interrupts a person’s daily life. One common technique used for dissociation is called grounding. It is a technique that helps a person regain connection with his or her physical body. This may often end the dissociation, or will at least make it more bearable. When a person dissociates, he or she may practice the technique of grounding. There are many different ways to practice grounding. The main idea is to do something that brings a person back in touch with his or her body. Use physical sensations. Try touching the table, feeling the grass, or smelling a flower. Doing activities that enhance your physical sensations will help you to come back to a solid state. It has helped me to wash my face with water, or hold a couple of ice cubes. Speak truths out loud. It has been helpful for me to try to speak the truth out loud. This can be things like, “I am 31 years old,” or “I live in Indianapolis.” This will help to make sense of the reality that the person lives in, as we can often get confused about our lives when we dissociate. Try laughter. This is a big one. If you’re alone, try turning on some comedy on YouTube. If you are with a trusted friend, try asking them to make you laugh. Better yet, tell your loved ones ahead of time that laughter helps when you dissociate. It will help you to feel your internal body, it will lighten the seriousness of the situation, and it may bring you out of dissociation. Overall, be patient with yourself. Grounding techniques take practice and may feel unusual in the initial moments. Remember that dissociation is not usually dangerous and that it will pass. I would suggest you to consult a psychologist. You can consult with me too. All the best.

There are steps you can help you managing day to day stressful conditions and take to feel better. 1. Be realistic: If you feel overwhelmed by some activities (yours and/or your family's), learn to say NO! Eliminate an activity that is not absolutely necessary. You may be taking on more responsibility than you can or should handle. If you meet resistance, give reasons why you're making the changes. Be willing to listen to other's suggestions and be ready to compromise. 2. Shed the 'superman/superwoman' urge: No one is perfect, so don't expect perfection from yourself or others. Ask yourself, 'What really needs to be done?' How much can I do? Is the deadline realistic? What adjustments can I make?' Don't hesitate to ask for help if you need it. 3. Take one thing at a time: For people under tension or stress, their day-to-day workload can sometimes seem unbearable. The best way to cope with this feeling of being overwhelmed is to take one task at a time. Make a list of things you need to get done and start with one task. Once you accomplish that task, choose the next one. The positive feeling of 'checking off' tasks is very satisfying. It will motivate you to keep going. 4. Share your feelings: A conversation with a friend lets you know that you are not the only one having a bad day. Stay in touch with friends and family. Ask them how they have dealt with a similar situation that may be 'stressing you out.' Let them provide love, support and guidance. Don't try to cope alone. 5. Be flexible: If you find you're meeting constant opposition in either your personal or professional life, rethink your position or strategy. Arguing only intensifies stressful feelings. Make allowances for other's opinions and be prepared to compromise. If you are willing to be accommodating, others may meet you halfway. Not only will you reduce your stress, you may find better solutions to your problems. Go easy with criticism. You may expect too much of yourself and others. Try not to feel frustrated, disappointed or even 'trapped' when another person criticises you. 6. Hobbies: Take a break from your worries by doing something you enjoy. Whether it's gardening or painting, schedule time to indulge your interest. Exercise: Regular exercise is a popular way to relieve stress. Twenty to thirty minutes of physical activity benefits both the body and the mind. Meditate: Just ten to twenty minutes of quiet reflection may bring relief from chronic stress as well as increase your tolerance to it. 7. Take Herbal Supplement: Herbs like Brahmi, Ashwagandha, Mandukparni, Shankhpuspi, Kaunch are very helpful in managing stress. These herbs work on the brain and help relax you which ultimately empowers you to manage your stressful conditions easily. There are many herbal supplements available in the market that can help you. 8. Consult the Doctor: If your stress level doesn't seem to improve with above tips, it may require more attention and consultation with an Expert. Or consult me on Lybrate privately

Does he feel fresh and rested after waking up? Some people do need extra sleep to cope up with stress. Doing short meditation or breathing exercise periodically in between his studies could rejuvenate him and he will need relatively lesser number of hours to sleep

Alcohol dependence involves intense craving or desire to drink alcohol. People drink for pleasure or rationalize it on external factors like family problems, work tension, etc. They drink continuously, i.e. Almost daily or even weekly once or twice with withdrawal symptoms, tolerance, bodily damage, etc. They need to be brought for de addiction which involves You need to consult a psychiatrist and go for 3 steps of de addiction. 1st is detoxification, when alcohol is stopped and the withdrawal is made smooth with minimal discomfort, 2 nd is maintenance and further deaddiction when the physical problems and psychological state of the individual is maintained and anti-craving drugs started 3 rd rehabilitation, when relapse prevention is the goal, while maintaining deaddiction. M.Sc - Applied Psychology, Advanced diploma in counselling psychology
Psychologist, Mumbai
Lybrate-user, there can be many reasons for not able to write what you have learned, but we will see a few for the time being. (1) may be you are studying without understanding the concept or matter. (2) may be there is lack of revision. (3) may be there is lot of distractions within you or in the surroundings so what you are required to do is identify the area where you are lacking or let me know if there is something else. Then steadily we can improvise only on those issues in detail. I am sure you will be able to come over your problem.

Sir, how to control emotion about crush and forget girl and I am trying to move on but I can not do.

MA - Psychology

Sir, how to control emotion about crush and forget girl and I am trying to move on but I can not do.
There's nothing that you cannot do! You need to distract yourself, make other friends, go out with them, indulge in activities that you enjoy doing, follow your passion and get busy! You're only 28 and you can't afford to cry over a girl that was just a crush and not even a relationship! Time does definitely Heal but you need to have faith and be patient. If you feel low, talk it out with some good-meaning friend or consult a counselor/therapist who can "uplift" you. Common, get up, dress up, cheer up & show up!

Hello Doctor, give me some tips to reduce stress?

DNB, DPM, MBBS
Psychiatrist,
Hello Doctor, give me some tips to reduce stress?
The term stress is both an advantage and a disadvantage. It is advantageous because it is all-embracing and allows a synthesis of many aspects of life's experiences; it is disadvantageous because its referents are diverse. Pharmacological approaches to stress management- it should be started after proper evaluation. Stress-management training-- it is important to highlight five skills that form the core of almost all stress-management programs: self-observation, cognitive restructuring, relaxation training, time management, and problem solving. This training can be done on individual basis and also online. If any further details are required let me know.

Dear, as you are already aware smoking is dangerous. Apart from the nicotine related addiction and health hazards, you inhale more than 4000 carcinogenic chemicals when you smoke. There is also a high risk of developing these problems to other people near you through passive smoking. Awareness is the basic for quitting smoking. Awareness provides will power. Know more about tobacco smoking health effects. For craving or withdrawal symptoms you can use nicotine chewing gums or nicotine patches. There are other way by gradual reducing and keeping some promises. Promise yourself, that you will not smoke in office, at home, in front of family members and dear friends etc. Never buy cigerettes in packets. Whenever you feel like smoking, go to the shop and buy one. Keep these promises strictly and you will see the quantity reduces drastically. Then you can stop it gradually. Take care.
