Hi, I am a diabetic patient in its initial stage.
What should I do to prevent it from getting it severe?
Firstly you take your food with 2 to 3 hr intervals, devided into 3 main meals and 3 small meals. Main meals should consist of 1/4 portion of protein and 1/4 portion of carbohydrates and 2 portion of vegetables more or less at the same time of the day to make your biological clock perfect. Avoid high calorie food such as fried things, mango, banana, sapota, juices, sweets. Secondly do regular exercise, yoga or walk. Thirdly always take your medicine in time as advised by your doctor. Keep your self hydrated and take enough sleep.

For a diabetic it is best advised to have a diet planned as per the sugar levels, lifestyle and history. Though you can follow some guidelines - have small frequent meals. Do not fast for long hours. Avoid a very heavy meal at one time. Avoid fruit juices, aerated drinks or sugarcane juice, honey, jaggery or sugar. Avoid junk foods. Eat local and seasonal foods. Fruits are fine as long as eaten in moderation as a midmeal. Exercise and stay active. Do not attempt to try out too many remedies as you could go into hypoglycaemia. Sleep well. It's all a matter of discipline.

What is the funtion of protein in human body?

Proteins are the building blocks in your body- these are made up of smaller fractions called amino acids. There are different types of amino acids and may be present in different combinations in the body. Some of the are essential amino acid, which means these are not produced in our body and so need to be taken through diet in the form of protein foods. There are others which are non essential, which are produced in the body and so need not be present in the diet. Proteins build muscle in your body and give you the strength to work. The protein requirement of our body is normally 1 gm per kg normal weight. If proteins are less your metabolism also slows down which results in weight gain also. Good sources of protein in the diet are milk and milk products, eggs, meat, fish and chicken, legumes or pulses, nuts and dry fruits, mushrooms, soya bean etc.

To reduce belly fat you need to be particular about food choices & timings. Eat small & frequent meals. Include high fiber foods in your diet such as whole cereals & whole pulses. Drink plenty of water. Avoid refined foods from your diet such as maida, pasta. Keep check on your food intake.

Hi lybrate-user WEIGHT GAIN It is not a good idea to eat mega-meals at fast food joints or high- in- fat foods to gain weight. An effort like this will increase your body fat, putting you at risk for health problems. Rather work on improving the quality of your diet. Focus on eating healthy, growing strong and staying fit. Try eating six small healthy meals per day. Include 2 to 3 servings of fruits and vegetables in the day. Drink juice and smoothies made with milk and fresh fruit. Snack on dried fruit and nuts and high-fiber savories. If you are an exerciser, eat before and after workouts, and keep yourself hydrated. Here are some ideas: •Use whole fat dairy products such as whole milk, regular cheese and yogurt, cottage cheese. •Modify Cooking: Experiment by adding almonds to salads, cashews to a trail mix, or granola to yogurt. •Use "Extras" Try mixing in Ovaltine or almonds with a glass of milk. Add dried fruit or granola to yogurt. Mix in nuts, such as cashews or almonds to salads, trail mixes or cottage cheese. •Increase portion size gradually: Slowly try to increase the overall volume of the food at each meal, starting with one meal. For example, try adding one food item to a typical breakfast such as - add some fruit to cereal and milk. Then try increasing the amount of cereal. do one thing whenever u feel urself hungry try to take coconut water/roasted gram/poha/cucumber/fruit juices. during hunger avoid taking biscuits,coffee,choclates,junk food etc. u can take fenugreek seeds soaked in morning[1 teaspoonful] take jeera powder. do exercises. try to sit on the floor[avoid sitting on chair] use 2 teaspoonful karela juice daily. consult from dietician also.

Dear you can easily gain weight and get a healthy muscular body by following these best things - 1. To gain weight, your digestion should work properly. If you have any disease of digestive system you should treat disease first. For proper digestion - take 10 gms powder of carom seeds (ajwain, 10 gm powder of cumin (jeera), 10 gm of rock salt. Mix them well and take 1/2 teaspoon (3-5 gm) of mixture daily after meal. Or take 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper (kali mirch), 1/ 2 tea spoon of jeera (cumin), 2-3 slice of ginger. Boil it in one glass of water for 2-3 minutes. Drink 5-10 teaspoons (15-20 ml) in morning and evening for strong digestive system. Or you can take amla powder 1 teaspoon with water for strong digestion. 2. Take a diet rich with proteins and fats. You should take high calorie food that increase your muscle mass and induce growth in bones. I am sending the diet chart. Follow it in your daily life to fastly gain weight * in morning, take a glass of milk added with 2 teaspoons of protein powder with breakfast. * in lunch time, take 1 bowl of curd or 100 gm of cheese, a bowl of vegetable, with chapattis. * in evening, take 1 glass of milk (300 ml) with 2 bananas. * in night, take a bowl of careals (daal, a bowl of salad with chapattis. 3. In morning, get up early and take awalk for 10-15 minutes and exercise light weight exercises for at least 30 minutes at home or gym. 4. For proper weight, proper sleep is very important. So you should sleep for 6-8 hours daily. 5. Avoid soft drinks, western fast food (burgers, french fries, pizza etc. They disturb your digestion. 6. You can try protein powders like endura mass, milk powder, soya protein. And creatinine for weight gain by taking 1 tea spoon added in milk once a day.

My wife is diebetic since 40 years, bp/sugar is under controle. But she has too much pain and swelling in both knees. She walks within the house only. Knees can not be replaced as she has multiple blocks & heart does not permit that.

It depends on d set up. In our set up I have replaced both knee with multiple valvular cardiac disease n also in patients wit optd for bypass surgery also. Think positive . If she will not walk. Then cardiac function will also compromised. Even newer drugs n anesthesia permits any high risk pt. Optd comfortably.

I am diabetic with moderate neuropathy. Bs levels are around 100-110 and 140-150. I am on mixtard insulin 15 15 and gluformin-500 1 1 1/2 1 1/2 per day. Also pregabelin75, 1 1 daily. I am feeling muscle stiffness to walk initially for about 5 minutes then moderately normal. Feet are normal with slight tingling. Suggest homeo medicine.

It's a symptoms of indigestion. Your diet is not fully digesting. You should also lose some weight start following * take ajvayan & jeera 1 tsp each after each meal * take ginger & turmeric before food * take hot water * quantity is much important, assume 4 part of your appetite & take food only 3 part of it * avoid day sleep, stress, night awaking * keep excersice. * do not take dinner to late. Need more information for perfect diagnosis & treatment.
