Why and When Should I Go for HPV Test?

Persistent infection of the uterine cervix with high risk human papilloma virus (HPV) leads to development of cervical cancer. Infection with HPV is common especially in sexually active young women, most infections are transient and spontaneously clear within 1 to 2 years without causing cancer. These transient infections may cause temporary changes in cervical cells. If a cervical infection with high risk HPV type persists the cellular changes can eventually develop into more severe precancerous lesions. If pre cancerous lesions are not treated, they can progress to cancer. Thus, an HPV DNA test is recommended to identify the high risk types of HPV.

Why is Pap Smear done?

An HPV test is done to:

Check for high-risk types of human papillomavirus (HPV) in women who had a Pap test that showed abnormal cervical cells called atypical squamous cells (ASCUS). An HPV test can help look for one or more high-risk types of HPV.
Check for HPV in women older than age 30 as part of screening for abnormal cervical cells.
Help check for abnormal cervical cells after treatment of a high-risk HPV infection.

When should one get screened for cervical cancer?

American Cancer Society does not recommend using HPV DNA test to screen for cervical cancer in females under 30. This is because females in their twenties who are sexually active are much more likely (than older females) to have a HPV infection that goes away on its own. For these young females, results of this test are not as significant and may be confusing.

For females age 30 and older, Pap & HPV co testing is less likely to miss an abnormality (i.e. lower false negative rate than pap testing alone. It also lengthens the screening interval to 5 years and still allows abnormalities to be detected in time to treat them.

Women of age >65 yrs who have had adequate screening history or those who have had total hysterectomy do not need any further screening.

HPV TEST

Is HPV test as safe and effective as Pap Smear?

The advantage of the HPV test is that the Pap test misses a fair number of carcinomas as it has a lower sensitivity. Studies have also shown that a negative HPV test is better at predicting that a woman will be free of lesions for the next three years than a negative Pap test.

And while the experience for the patient is the same for both tests, the HPV test requires less material from the cervix to detect an infection so there's less concern that a sample will be inadequate.

How is the HPV test performed?
Before an HPV test, do not douche, use tampons, or use vaginal medicines for at least 48 hours.
In the HPV test, a doctor takes a swab of cells from the cervix, just as for the Pap test. The cells are then analyzed in a laboratory. The genetic material (DNA) of the HPV virus is studied. This test can identify 13 or 14 of the high-risk HPV types associated with cervical cancer. HPV test results are generally available in 1 to 2 weeks.

You may have a small amount of vaginal bleeding or gray-green discharge after this test.

Follow these best methods to easily gain weight and get a healthy body - * to gain weight, first take a diet rich with proteins and fats. You should take high calories food that increase your muscle mass and induce growth in bones. Follow the diet chart in your daily life to fastly gain weight * in morning, take a glass of milk added with 2 teaspoons of bournvita or complan powder with breakfast. * after 2 hours of breakfast, take 2 bananas or a bowl of boiled soyabeans. To increase your hunger & proper digestion of food - take 10 gms powder of carom seeds (ajwain, 10 gm powder of cumin (jeera), 10 gm of rock salt. Mix them well and take 1/2 teaspoon (3-5 gm) of mixture daily after lunch * in lunch time, take 1 bowl of curd or 100 gm of cheese, a bowl of vegetable, with chapattis. You can take 2 bowl of careals (moong/chana daal) on the place of curd or cheese. * in evening, take 1 glass of milk (300 ml) with 10-12 pieces of dry fruits or 3-4 pieces of dates (khajoor). * in night, take a bowl of careals (daal, a bowl of salad with chapattis. 3. In morning, get up early and take awalk for 10-15 minutes and exercise light weight exercises for at least 30 minutes at home or gym. Exercise is very important so that muscles gain mass from the heathy diet. 4. For proper weight, proper sleep is very important. So you should sleep for 6-8 hours daily. 5. Avoid smoking & alcohol drinkg completely. I assure you that you definitely gain weight fastly by following them. Be healthy

Only too much eating of heavy food for weight gain is not suitable proper digestion along with proper absorption of aaharras in body is very important if aaharras absortion is poor then gold like food will be of no use take ayurvediy medications for improvement in digestion and absorption of aaharas too much eating and frequently eating habits makes your hunger poorer day by day decreasing your immunity also.

Hi Priya, The first thing which you should do right after getting up in morning is eat a healthy and wholesome breakfast (no lemon water, green or purple tea plz).This is because our bodies are at 8-9 hours of fasting when we get up,it needs real food to start up its metabolism(fat burning is also a metabolic reaction,which can't be accomplished without food). Eat poha/dosa/idli/paratha/upma/chila or anything you like to eat. you can go and exercise after that. walk is no exercise if you want to reduce weight. Please run/dance/swim/cycle or anything you enjoy. bear it in mind that it shoal be a bit challenging to your body. Start slow and be persistent. Hi, I am 47 years old male. I am facing on off health issues from last 2 years. Facing constipation indigestion problems from last 20 years plus. Whereas having BP from last 8 years was on lose then a year back doctor changed to tezloc. Was weighing 120 kg. Whereas I also taking Herbalife products from last 8-9 months initially I came down to 105kg but now i am on 109 kg at present. Even I am experiencing normal BP without BP tablets if taken i am feeling week and my BP readings shows below 100/60. Is this due Herbalife Product? Whereas now At present am facing frozen shoulder from last 4 months and during fasting month of Ramzan and after am facing a completely newly, facing joint pains everywhere. At this age height increment is not possible.But you can increase your weight by balanced diet.Eat food more frequently with extra amount.Use whole cream milk or milk shake.Use weight gainer supplement.Include more dense vegetables and fruits.Take banana 3-4pcs/day.Take yogurt everyday.Add ghee,butter,cheese,cream,jam,jelly with food.Add extra healthy fat.Eat more protein rich foods like fish like tuna and other fish,egg,lean meat,soy milk,soy product,mushroom,almond,walnut,peanut,flax seed,sunflower seed.Avoid smoking,alcohol.Proper sleep and regular exercise for be fit and healthy.

Hi, I wish your father a speedy recovery first of all. Its the hormonal response through which he doesn't feel like to eat. My suggestion would be give him the food which he used to like in his childhood and he likes now. Talking about diabetes, if its type 1 you need to make sure he's eating proper dinner and breakfast like scrambled eggs with 1 multigrain chappati etc and for breakfast ragi dosa with coconut chutney etc. Also educate him that if he doesn't eat he will not recover fast. For recovery make sure he takes all his vitamins and eat food like eggs, chicken, fish, tofu, soya, paneer, sweet potatoes, black beans, quinoa, oats, olive oil, desi ghee etc. Please make sure you take care of these things as the person who's suffering never takes care of himself so you should be the one who should be looking after it. There are many plans for a diabetic person and for a speedy recovery, if you need any assistance do not hesitate to get in touch with and ill be glad to assist you.

Hi to reduce belly fat you need to be particular about food choices & timings. Eat small & frequent meals. Include high fiber foods in your diet such as whole cereals & whole pulses. Drink plenty of water. Avoid refined foods from your diet such as maida, pasta. Keep check on your food intake.
