For the ‘average’ person, you need around 3500 calories to gain a pound. That’s 3500 calories over and above your maintenance weight! Likewise, for every 3500 calories of deficit your body has, you will potentially lose a pound of fat reserves.

Mr., Thanks for the query. Diabetes is caused by deficiency of insulin secretion plus resistance to its action. Resistance occurs due to excess fat (being over weight or obese). Other contributing factors are inactivity, taking junk foods, pastries, bakery items and foods made out of maida. Plus excess consumption of sweetened aerated drinks like colas. There is also positive family history which contributes to a great extent. Eating healthy food is never a problem. Dates eating (unless one consumes too many) is unlikely to be causing any problem. It will not lead to diabetes. Thanks.

Sir I have diabetes since 8 years. I have tested my blood samples in lab and readings are FBS 100 and PPBS 190. Sometimes, I will have itching in my foot and it may starting stage of diabetic foot problems. Will you advise any solution or blood sample testing to check diabetic foot problem or I should consult dietician on this problem. Please advise solution to it.

Mr. lybrate-user, thanks for the query. Your blood glucose levels look fairly good. (PP ideally should be <170 mg). What is the HbA1c%? It should be < 6.8. Usually when diabetes continues for a number of years, it does cause peripheral neuropathy. This can lead to burning sensation in the feet or tingling and numbness also. Most important is to maintain a strict blood glucose control and see that no injury occurs to the feet. Because in some people due to severe neuropathy there may be lack of sensation in the feet, and injuries are not noticed. Then there is a serious problem. Presently there is no such issue with you. Do not worry unnecessarily. Thanks.

Dear sir, Please add Jou or barley flour in your diet. Roast this flour and mix 1/4th of it in normal wheat flour. Prepare chapaties wit it and Eat it daily. Eat more of fiber containing food like green leafy vegies, more of fresh seasonal fruits, drink less water with meals instead take sips of water while eating food and don?t drink before and after. Take 1 teaspoon of Fengrueek Seed Powder ( Methi Dana Powder) with water daily will control diabetes and its complications. You can also chew 4-5 leaves of curry patta daily as it will reduce your blood pressure, protects liver and works as antioxidants along with increasing Hb which will overcome you weakness. If a physically very weak person do exercise regularly. Then is there any bad effect to her body ? I have listen that , if a physically weak person do hard exercise regularly, then their blood level will be diminished.

Dear lybrate-user you are totally wrong. Always exercise should be done till you get sweat under arms. At this stage you have to stop exercise. You regularly do pranayama meditation and exercise take leafy vegetables sprouts and seasonal fruits. Maintain diet timings. You can take ashwagandha powder for general strength twice a day with milk. Review after one month.

Dear lybrateuser, - To develop your body & to keep fit you have to consume a well balanced diet & do regular exercise - it is not necessary to join a gym, you can also do exercises at home, do jogging, swimming, play an outdoor game, do weight bearing exercises like pushups, pull ups, squats, crunches, also can lift light dumbbells to develop muscles 2-3 times a week, do different group of muscles each day, give rest to that part for 1-2 days then again repeat - have a well balanced diet with more of protein rich foods like eggs, non veg, milk & milk products, soya products, beans, lentils, pulses, sprouts, nuts like almonds, walnuts, pista, cashews, peanuts - include a protein food in each of your meals & also have as snack in between meals when you feel hungry - also sleep well for 8-9 hrs at night as sleep is very important for proper development of the body.
