Hello Mr. Iyer, hypertension (high blood pressure) can be controlled by- 1. Balanced diet low in sodium- reduce intake of salt, restrict table salt on salads, drinks, restrict ppc- papad, pickle, chutnies, ketchups. Instead use more tomatoes, lemon, tamarind for the taste factor in food. Increase intake of potassium rich fruits like coconut water to bring down bp immediately. Sweetlime, orange, banana are other choices. 2. Exercise- an hour of cardio activity like walking, jogging, swimming, outdoor games like badminton, tennis which you are engaged in will help. However try to add variations in your activity. 3. Rest- a good night's for 7-8 hrs goes a long wat in controlling bp. 4. De-stress- reduction of stress on the mind and body by doing meditation or yoga atleast 3 times/week will help. All the best.

I am 18yr old female. My weight is not enough according to the age. What should I do?

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)

I am 18yr old female. My weight is not enough according to the age. What should I do?
Gaining weight is as difficult as losing it, if you are naturally thin. Skinny people complain that they can't put on any weight. If you want to build up weight, don't just eat high-calorie junk foods and rely on unnecessary supplements. Choose foods that are energy-dense and nutrient-dense whenever possible. Following are some tips to follow to increase your weight. You will take some time to gain the weight you need, but be patient. 1. If you have a rapid metabolism, then you must increase your daily intake of healthy foods (increase your intake of carbohydrates) to compensate for the rate at which you burn energy. Eat six smaller meals a day You should also eat more energy dense foods like healthy oils, dry fruits, seeds, nuts, pulses, etc. along with some starchy foods like potatoes, cereals, bread, pasta, rice, etc. 2. Consume more calories than you burn. Choose healthy calorie-dense food to add calories. Drink healthy beverages to add calories. Mangoes are rich in calories and carbohydrates, include them in your diet. 3. Eat healthy food frequently, 5-6 times a day - 3 larger meals and 3 smaller meals alternately. Separate them by at least 3 hours so you can digest each meal fully. Don't go without food for 5-6 hours after having a major meal. For example, if you wish to consume 3000 calories a day, you may eat 3 larger meals of about 650 calories and 3 smaller meals of about 450 calories. 4. Have a balanced diet. 5. Exercise regularly for putting on weight. Some thin people think that exercise is not good for them. This is not true, it keeps the metabolism high. Remember that eating alone is not sufficient. You don't want to gain fat but lean mass, so exercise is important. Resistance training exercises will help to increase your muscle mass, which in turn will increase metabolism. Learn to distinguish between weight gaining exercises and weight loss exercises. Note that if you do not get enough amino acids during exercise, the existing muscle may break down. Amino acids come from protein foods so you should eat such foods after exercise. Keep in mind that excessive exercise without putting back the energy you have used will not help you to put on weight.

Dear, if you tired very fast and feeling weakness. Then you will definitely recover from weakness by following these very useful tips. * you should take proper balanced diet first. That means you have to take vegetables, milk, chapattis or rice, butter / cream, cereals (daals) or cheese every day. Very important thing, do not miss or skip your meals at any cost and take meals on time. * proper 6-8 hours sleep is very important. If your sleep is less than 6 hours, then you feel tired very early. So complete your sleep. * do breathing execises daily in morning & evening. Just sit down in peaceful place, close your eyes, take deep and long breaths in and out. Do it atleast for 10-15 minutes daily. You can also do pranayams like anulom vilom for better results. *take a walk, in first walk normally for 10-15 minutes for 15 days. You can do it on treadmill also. * you can take ashvagandha churn of baidyanath 1 teaspoon with milk daily for 2 months atleast to get your strength back. * check out your haemoglobin level in 3 months, if it is low you get tired early. So get treatment of low haemoglobin (anemia). If you have any disease like asthma /diabetes / hypertension, then get complete treatment of them. * avoid all fast foods and habit of smoking or drinking.

You need to have diet plan based on your BMI & activities. Whatever we eat is metabolised by the body for the energy needed to do daily work and the excess is stored as fat. Abdomen is the first place to gain weight and last to disappear. In brief, Weight reduction can be achieved only by reducing the intake of food 1/3 of what you take now. And by appropriate exercise plans for each part like belly, thighs, legs / chest etc. To burn off fat. Some tips 1) Drink three or four cups of water whenever you feel hungry and just before eating food 2) Take boiled or raw vegetable like cucumber, carrot etc. As half of your diet. Then take 1/2 of your total diet as sprouted pulses / proteinaceous food like roti, cooked pulses and remaining with rice or other carbohydrates. Oil or ghee etc. Should be just bare minimum. And do aerobic exercises, running, jogging or at least walking briskly 3-5 KMs and swimming if possible, and in a gym if feasible. The most important is to burn off the energy intake by exercises. There is no short cut or medicines without exercise & dieting to take just as mush food as needed for your activities. The food we eat is utilised for our energy needs and the remaining will be stored as fat which leads to obesity. It is better to do some tests. One pound equals 3,500 calories. If you cut 500 a day from your diet, you'll lose a pound a week. People who lose weight slowly, about 1 to 2 pounds per week, are more successful at keeping the weight off. You'll also burn additional calories if you increase your physical activity. You weight-loss plan should do all of the following: •Emphasize fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free or low-fat dairy products. •Include lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts. •Contain foods low in saturated fats, avoid trans fats, and limit cholesterol and salt (sodium). •Avoid refined sugars and processed foods. Some tips to help you lose weight: •Keep a food diary. Writing down everything you eat is critical! Noting how you feel when you eat will help you identify emotional triggers that may cause you to overeat. Emotional eaters tend to overeat. •Eat when you're truly hungry rather than when you're tired, anxious or stressed. •Eat slowly. If you eat too fast, you eat more than you need to satisfy your hunger. Your brain needs time to catch up with your stomach. •Plan your meals ahead of time so you make healthy choices. When dining out, check the menu online and decide what you will order before you sit down. Ask for dressings on the side. Opt for foods that are baked, broiled or steamed versus fried or swimming in creamy sauces. Avoid chips and bread baskets—they add unnecessary calories. •Stay hydrated. People often mistake thirst for hunger. •Eat breakfast. If you skip this meal, you'll be starving by lunchtime. You'll have more difficulty making healthy choices throughout the day. Find resources to help you keep track of your food choices and nutritional values and that can offer additional support when you need it. FACIAL EXERCISES Place your fingers on your cheeks so that you can feel the movement better. Hold the position for five seconds. Then relax your face and repeat the exercise two times. The next exercise will help you to get rid of chubby cheeks Face Exercise #1 Sit up straight and drop your lower jaw. Now, push your jaw outwards, as far as it will go until you feel a tension build up in your cheeks, near your ears. Hold this position for 10 seconds and then draw your jaw inwards. Repeat this exercise 10 times. Face Exercise #2 With your mouth closed, smile as wide as you can without parting your lips. Hold for 10 seconds and then relax your lips. Repeat this exercise 10 times. Face Exercise #3 Stretch out your neck as far behind as it will go. Then, without changing the position of your head, open mouth and then close it slowly feeling the tension build in the muscles of your neck and lower chin. Hold for 10 seconds. Repeat this exercise 5 times. Face Exercise #4 When sitting upright, stick your tongue out and try to reach your chin with the tip of your tongue. Hold this position for 10 seconds and then release. Repeat this exercise 10 times. You should feel a slight tug just under the apples of your cheeks. The effectiveness of these face exercises increased nearly tenfold when combined with a moderated, well-balanced dietary regime. You can ask me personally any further doubts.

Why to follow homeopathic approach?

Hello! A warm welcome from ‘The homeopathic clinic’, I am Dr. Amit, consulting homeopath practicing since last 12 years. We have three clinics at Bhandup, Thane and Khar. Currently I am practicing in all the three places with my colleagues and co doctors. We have been practicing homeopathy since last years. Now many of you must not be aware about homeopathy. Homeopathy is a branch of science which has come out of allopathy. A lot of allopath doctors found a lot of difficulty in treating some cases completely. They found once an asthmatic patient is always an asthmatic patient, once an allergic patient is always an allergic patient, so this made them think that there should be something different so they came out with this beautiful science called homeopathy.

Homeopathy is a branch where we consider your total symptoms, right from your physical complains to your mental nature to the diseases you suffered in the past and we treat you holistically. Holistically treating helps you in improving your immunity, remove your diseases completely, and thereby curing you permanently. Nowadays we have seen people at early age develop dreadful diseases like diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol, thyroid and hormonal dysfunctions. All these are effects of stress which deteriorates our immunity. Modern medicine has got very good effects in these. Modern medicines means allopathic medicines are very good in treating these cases. But the problem with the modern medicines is that it is able to control these diseases but there is no permanent cure of these diseases. But we have good scope of homeopathy along with the modern medicines in these types of cases like cholesterol, diabetes, or thyroid, even menstrual disorders.

So a lot of these cases we have treated with homeopathy. Homeopathy is right for people of all the ages, right from a child of 2 months of age to an old person of 80 years of age, and both the sexes- male, female, it is effective for all the people. It is completely without any side effects. There is no side effect. There are some myths that homeopathy has got steroid, so there are no steroids in it also. So you can completely go for homeopathy. I am sure homeopathy will help you grow with your immunity and thereby make you focus in your life too so that you are healthy and you can focus on your other activities of life, your growth in life and enjoy the life with your family.

For further information if you need to contact us or you want to visit any of our clinic you can contact us through Lybrate.

Hi lybrate-user Healthy choice of food, proper workout routine can lead to a better you. Starting and following the steps as planned towards the beginning can be hard, but everything gets accustomed with time. Don’t ever overdo with any exercise and do as far as the body permits. Individual predisposition, natural abilities and genes should always be taken into account while implementing an exercise program. A slim person would normally have high metabolism than a not so slim person and can achieve better results working out only 3-4 times a week, 5- 6 times for the latter. We lose water via sweating, urinating and breathing, etc. Thus we lose more water during hot weather, even if you aren’t sweating. Don’t let your body get dehydrated, supply yourself with water and required fluids whenever the body demands. Do not ever skip breakfast as not eating well at the starting of the day can result in being hungry later on. Choose your food well. Snacking by sitting in front of the TV is the easiest way to hamper your diet. Thus, watch out what you eat. Burn up a particular amount of calorie to maintain the balance of your health. Settle for several mini meals than one huge meal during the day, as you tend to over eat while you are very hungry. Protein is the ultimate fill me up food as it’s both satisfying and healthier than carbohydrates or fats. Have more vegetables and fruits. Fill your stomach with more amounts of vegetables than carbohydrates. Include more fiber in your diet which would also help you lower your cholesterol. If previously you used to have one cup of pasta, try replacing it with one cup of vegetable and lesser pasta for consumption. If you are determined to lose weight, take time lose it, drastic reduction in anything is not a healthy option. Get quality sleep. Getting enough sleep may make you feel rested and full and keep you away from unnecessary snacking. Get to know portion sizes. Try to right-size your diet by using a kitchen scale or measuring cups to measure your meals for a week or two. Use smaller plates and glasses to downsize your portion and get satisfied with whatever is available in the plate. Switch your food habits if you understand it’s not quite healthy and nutritious for your body. Opt for salads tossed with pepper and lemon to add flavors to it. Try skipping alcohols and nicotine. As alcohols contain empty calories it gets converted into direct body fat. Celebrate but not with food. If success comes your way then celebration is mandatory. Do celebrate but treat yourself with assets or shopping and not with an enormous pizza or a chocolate sundae. Fill your house with healthy snack Exercise regularly and maintain the consistency. Workout with a companion. Keep a diary of your progress and check your weight at regular intervals.

What should we do to constantly be healthier? Without doing much expense on food?
Hello, We need make few changes in our life to stay fit and healthy (if there is no medical condition): - Just walking alone is a very beneficial exercise which can help you stay in shape, feel more energetic, and get healthy. Always take stairs rather than taking an elevator. -Standing while you work can help your body get more activity than if you were just sitting down. Spend at least some of your work day standing instead of sitting in order to help your blood flow and maintain your muscles. -Do more chores. Lots of household chores actually involve a lot of exercise and being better about doing chores can be a great way for you to fit activity and exercise into your day. -Aim to exercise for a total of 30 minutes per day and you’ll easily be able to maintain your fitness level. -Some exercises will be more efficient than others, and choosing these more efficient exercises means that the small amount of time that you do spend exercising will really count. Try to choose exercises that focus on your core muscles, since your legs and arms can get activity through daily activities like lifting bags of groceries and walking a longer distance from your car. Try squats, planks, burpees. -Get indulge into some activity at home like riding a bicycle, swimming, playing active games with your kids. -Eating right. Cut out unhealthy fats and take in healthy fats. The easiest way to identify unhealthy fats is to look for “solid” fats, or fats that are solid at room temperature. Get plenty of protein. Protein will help you maintain your muscles and also give you the energetic feeling that you may be missing now that you’re getting less exercise. Good protein sources include skinless chicken, salmon, sardines, almonds, walnuts, peanuts and peas. Eat properly portioned, balanced meals. Generally, about ⅓ of your plate should be fruits and vegetables and ⅓ of your plate should be grains. The final third should be a mix of protein and low-fat dairy (cottage cheese, eggs, non-fat milk, etc). -Drinking enough water also has the added bonus of keeping your hunger level down, helping you to maintain the lower calorie count that you’ll be getting now that you’re not exercising as much.
