Tips For A Healthy Stomach!

Tips For A Healthy Stomach!

Due to poor dietary habits you feel with bloated stomach, nausea, constipation, etc. By changing your dietary habits one can get relief from such symptoms.

Here are some few tips to get rid of these symptoms:

  • High fiber diet: increase fiber in the diet by adding green veggies and seasonal fruits in your daily diet. Include fiber of both the kinds that is soluble and insoluble as it will help retain the water in the gut resulting in softer stools. Include cereals like daliya, oats, multi grain flour, etc in your diet.
  • Avoid fried foods: keeping diet low in fat will not only keep your waist line in check but also keep your tummy healthy. Frying the food changes oil composition of the food which is harmful for stomach. So better go for grilled, baked, sauteed and steamed varieties of food.
  • Lean meats: chicken and fish are easily digested as compared to mutton due to low fat content in them. Try chicken and fish varieties in the form of salads for daily requirement of proteins, vitamins and minerals.
  • Pro-biotics and fermented foods: our digestive system has presence of good bacteria. They not only help in digestion and better nutrient absorption but also strengthen immunity.
  • Regular intervals: for a healthy gut one should always eat on time and at regular intervals. The absorption of nutrients is higher. Also these helps in keeping the weight in check and also helps in increasing your metabolism.
  • Water: it keeps you hydrated, helps in flushing out the toxins from body and ensures that one is not constipated. Make sure that it is cleaned and filtered properly otherwise contaminated water can harm the gut.
  • Processed and junk food: due to urbanization and food technology advancement, our food is highly processed. Avoid refined and junk food as it contains maida and maida will cause constipation and other digestive issues. Refined and processed food also contains other food adulterates which are not good for body.
  • Chew thoroughly: every bite you eat should be chewed properly. Enjoy the taste of the food without any distraction and stress. Small portion sizes help in aiding digestion process. Rather than eating large meals at one go. Smaller meals keeps the gut healthy.
  • Avoid excess of alcohol, tea, coffee and packaged drinks as they interfere with the absorption of nutrients.
  • Avoid distractions while eating.

Enjoy journey to health!

I recommend to control your sugar level 1) a healthy and well balanced diet having regular meals. Divide your meals into 5 to 6 times. 2) one teaspoon of methi seeds soaked overnight in 100 ml of water is very effective in controlling diabetes 3) good fats such as omega-3 and monounsaturated fats (mufa) should be consumed as they are good for the body like olive oil 4) diet should be high in fiber. Let whole grain cereals & flour, salad vegetables, green leafy vegetables & fruits be an integral part of your meals ex. Oatmeal, broccoli, flaxseed, avocado, berries, barley, carrot.

My husband is a diabetic for the last 17 years. How can he control his sugar apart from taking medicines?

My husband is a diabetic for the last 17 years. How can he control his sugar apart from taking medicines?
If you have type 2 diabetes and your blood sugar levels are racing up and down like a roller coaster, it's time to get off the ride. Big swings in your blood sugar can make you feel lousy. But even if you aren't aware of them, they can still increase your risk for a number of serious health problems. By making simple but specific adjustments to your lifestyle and diet, you can gain better blood-sugar control. Your body uses the sugar, also known as glucose, in the foods you eat for energy. Think of it as a fuel that keeps your body moving throughout the day. Blood sugar highs and lows

Obesity Due To Eating Disorders!

Obesity Due To Eating Disorders!

Obesity is a serious, chronic disease that can have a negative effect on many systems in your body. People who are overweight or obese have a much greater risk of developing serious conditions, including:

  • Heart disease
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Bone and joint disease

The prevalence of childhood obesity has increased dramatically over the past few decades, and obesity during adolescence is associated with significant medical morbidity during adulthood. Eating disorders and obesity are usually seen as very different problems but actually share many similarities. Eating disorders (EDs) are the third most common chronic condition in adolescents, after obesity and asthma.

In fact, eating disorders, obesity, and other weight-related disorders may overlap as girls move from one problem, such as unhealthy dieting, to another, such as obesity. Understand the links between eating disorders and obesity and promote healthy attitudes and behaviors related to weight and eating.

What is an Eating Disorder?

Eating Disorders describe illnesses that are characterized by irregular eating habits and severe distress or concern about body weight or shape. Eating disturbances may include inadequate or excessive food intake which can ultimately damage an individual’s well-being. The most common forms of eating disorders include Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and Binge Eating Disorder and affect both females and males.

Signs & Symptoms of an Eating Disorder:

A man or woman suffering from an eating disorder may reveal several signs and symptoms, some which are:

  1. Chronic dieting despite being hazardously underweight
  2. Constant weight fluctuations
  3. Obsession with calories and fat contents of food
  4. Engaging in ritualistic eating patterns, such as cutting food into tiny pieces, eating alone, and/or hiding food
  5. Continued fixation with food, recipes, or cooking; the individual may cook intricate meals for others but refrain from partaking
  6. Depression or lethargic stage
  7. Avoidance of social functions, family and friends. May become isolated and withdrawn
  8. Switching between periods of overeating and fasting

What are the health risks associated with these disorders?

  1. Stunted growth.
  2. Delayed menstruation.
  3. Damage to vital organs such as the heart and brain.
  4. Nutritional deficiencies, including starvation.
  5. Cardiac arrest.
  6. Emotional problems such as depression and anxiety.

What is Obesity?

Obesity means being overweight by the accumulation of excess fat within the body. Obesity is defined to some extent by measuring Body Mass Index (BMI). People become obese by consumption of excess calories, imbalance between calories intake and calories outgoing, leading a sedentary life, lack of sleep , disturbances in lipid metabolism and intake of medications that put on obese.

What are the risks associated with obesity?

Obesity increases the risk for:

  1. High blood pressure
  2. Stroke
  3. Cardiovascular disease
  4. Gallbladder disease
  5. Diabetes
  6. Respiratory problems
  7. Arthritis
  8. Cancer
  9. Emotional problems such as depression and anxiety

How eating disorder and obesity are related?

Eating disorders and obesity are part of a range of weight-related problems.

  1. Body dissatisfaction and unhealthy dieting practices are linked to the development of eating disorders, obesity, and other problems.
  2. Binge eating is common among people with eating disorders and people who are obese.
  3. Depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders are associated with both eating disorders and obesity.
  4. The environment may contribute to both eating disorders and obesity.

Help adolescents develop healthy eating habits:

  • Help children learn to control their own eating.
  • Offer children a variety of healthy foods at meal and snack times.
  • Eat dinner together as a family most days of the week.
  • Be aware of your child's emotional health or else consult a psychologist
  • Encourage children to participate in sports, dance, swimming and other physical activities.
  • Counteract harmful media messages about body image.

The splendid approach:

The approach should be quite simple. A proper diet plan, nutritious foods and fruits with proper exercise can do a world of good to you. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Dietitian/Nutritionist.

How Hymenoplasty Can Help You Regain Your Virginity?

MBBS, DGO, FICOG, Master of Population Studies (MPS)
Gynaecologist, Ghaziabad
How Hymenoplasty Can Help You Regain Your Virginity?

Hymenoplasty, a medical term for hymen repair surgery, is a procedure of reconstructing the thin skin membrane made of elastic and fibrous tissue known as the hymen. Colloquially termed as revirgination, the purpose of hymenoplasty is to reconstruct the hymen, which often gets torn due to injury or extensive exercise. In some countries, the surgery is illegal due to social and cultural reasons.

How is hymenoplasty performed?
The hymen may be torn while cycling or performing gymnastics. In some cases, it is seen that a woman’s hymen is torn even before the first intercourse. In this surgery, the edges of the torn hymen are stitched together to make it whole again. The tissues involved gradually grow back and take the appearance of a natural hymen. In some cases, the vaginal walls are also tightened for achieving a virgin-like form. The process typically takes around half an hour, and the area is coated with antibiotic ointment so that it heals within a short span of time. At times, there are no hymeneal remnants, or the available parts cannot be used. In such a situation, the surgeon reduces the opening of the vagina with the help of vaginal mucous tissue. When it becomes impossible to reconstruct the hymen, surgeons opt for hymen implantation, which functions in a similar way as that of a natural hymen.

What are the benefits of hymenoplasty?
For many women, hymenoplasty is nothing but a useless extravagance; but for some, this aesthetic surgery brings a host of benefits which may include making the first night of courtship special by regaining that symbol of virginity and possessing a sense of personal comfort and ownership. In some cultures as well as religious communities, a high value is imposed on virgins before marriage. In communities that consider hymen to be a proof of sexual status, rupture of the same can bring about a social disaster. In such situations, hymenoplasty can come to the rescue.

Who is a good candidate for hymenoplasty?
Women who are healthy enough and have realistic expectations about the surgery are the best candidates for hymenoplasty. Hymen reconstruction can help a woman to enjoy her virginity once again. In case the woman is suffering from any relationship crisis owing to rupture of the hymen, then experts suggest that she must consult with a family and a relationship counselor as well.

How long does it take it recover from hymenoplasty?
In most cases, patients can return to their usual routines the day following the surgery. But it is crucial to avoid strenuous work or exercise. If you have undergone dissolvable suture, then there is no need to remove it. Regardless of the type of stitch, it is critical to attend to the follow-up treatment to ensure a safe and effortless healing of the hymen. One must wait at least 3 to 4 weeks before indulging in sexual intercourse.

In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!
