My 15 year old son is highly obese, weighing at 90 kgs. What tests should I do to find if there are any underlying hormonal causes for the obesity? , I need to know what medical tests should be done to find the cause of obesity.

Weight reduction can be achieved only by reducing the intake of food 1/3 of what you take now. Some tips 1) drink three or four cups of water whenever you feel hungry and just before eating food 2) take boiled or raw vegetable like cucumber, carrot etc. As half of your diet. Then take of your total as sprouted pulses / proteinaceous food like roti, cooked pulses and remaining with rice or other carbohydrates. Oil or ghee etc. Should be just bare minimum. The most important is to burn off the energy intake by exercises. There is no short cut or medicines without exercise. The food we eat is utilised for our energy needs and the remaining will be stored as fat which leads to obesity. It is better to do some tests. For more detailed and personal advice ask me privately.

If you want any specific advice please come back with following details: Fasting, PP glucose levels, HbA1c%, drugs being taken with dosage, present dietary pattern, extent of exercise being done daily. You can take green coffee two times daily Also avoid fatty and spices food and skip lunch with mild breakfast and dinner take warm water with lemon and honey 2 glass daily empty stomach walk for at least 4-5 km daily with mild exercise and diet control avoid non veg and fast food do exercise and take plenty of water and papaya every day.

Dear lybrate-user ji At your age, the safest, best, most enjoyable and effective is natural walking on the ground for 45 mins. Such machines are a fad. And maybe ok for people who are very much younger and with very strong spines. I will definitely recommend NO to such walkers. They do not prevent BP, sugar on their own. Regards.

Avoidance of high fatty food which is basically oily stuff with ghee, butter or oil is to be avoided for reduction of cholesterol level. This is the best remedy. You don't reduce anything by adding something to it. You reduce it by diminishing it from the body by means of reduction it in your diet.

Modern society is getting rid of communicable diseases like malaria, typhoid, cholera, measles, chickenpox etc. Diseases of 21st century are ncds like diabetes, hypertension, obesity, cholesterol, coronary artery diseases, stroke and mental illnesses.

Do consultant family physician for these ncds. It is most important to do preventive health check up' every year once you cross 40 years.

Whatever your mode of weight loss, make sure the person u are consulting is trained enough in treating humans; has a thorough full time knowledge in the filed of dietetics and sports nutrition.

Going to any one just based on reference may not do you good.

You need to check that person academic qualifications personally. Else you might just end of losing more n more of muscle mass n make weight loss more n more difficult.

This is a very natural process. The body has gone through a major physical change during pregnancy. Also the change in body shape and fat distribution is a need to maintain the immunity of mother and child. You must try to eat healthy and keep physically fit after a period of time the body will gradually go back to your almost previous shape and weight.

There are no short cuts to health. Herbal life is a meal replacement with some energy drink which is mainly caffeine. If you do this for some time you will lose fat but once you start eating whole foods there is full chance of gaining the fat back.

If you feel you are grossly underweight and not gaining weight, first of all you have to check if you have any disease like anaemia or thyroid disease by a blood tests CBC, PBS and TSH. If the tests are normal, you have to do this for gaining weight and follow these steps .1) Estimate your calorie needs for weight gain. First, you need to determine your total energy expenditure (TEE). For thin men, multiply your weight in pounds by 11, and for thin women, multiply your weight in pounds by 10. Then multiply this number by an activity factor. If you get very little activity, use a factor of 1.3; if you get a little exercise or have a job that requires standing, use 1.6 if you're a man and 1.5 if you're a woman; or if you are moderately active, such as with a light labour job, use an activity factor of 1.7 if you're male and 1.6 if you're female. Once you've determined your TEE, add 500 to this number for your total calorie needs for weight gain. 2) Eat five to six small meals a day. Eating smaller meals more often helps prevent you from getting too full, which might help you get in more calories and help you reach your weight-gain goals. 3) Balance your intake. Even though you need to eat more calories to help you fill out, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics says it's still important that you include a variety of foods from all the food groups, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, protein foods and dairy products. 4) Add calories to your usual foods. For example, at breakfast make your oatmeal with milk instead of water; add cheese and avocado to your sandwich at lunch; and instead of steaming your veggies at dinner, sauté them in olive oil. 5) Snack on high-calorie foods. Fruit and nut mixes, peanut butter on whole-wheat toast, cheese and crackers are all nutrient-rich, high-calorie snack options that can help you gain weight. 6) Drink your calories -- but in a nutritious way. While water is good for hydration, when you want to gain weight it's better to drink beverages that supply calories. Milk and 100 percent fruit juice make the healthiest drink choices. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics also suggests that you drink your fluids in between meals so that it doesn't affect your appetite during mealtimes. 7) The most important gist of the weight gain programme is to Keep a food diary or use an online calorie tracker to help make sure you are meeting your calorie needs. Add non-fat dried milk powder to your milk, soup, yogurt, mashed potatoes and hot cereal. A 1/4-cup serving of the powder adds 109 calories and 11 grams of protein. To help make sure you gain muscle and not fat, add strength training to your exercise routine.

Increase you weight and stay healthy. Eat extra amount of foods. Do not skip meals. Eat more frequently than before. Avoid smoking, alcohol. Use extra refined foods. Extra protein like egg, fish, meat etc will help you. Add ghee, cream etc with foods. Add extra healthy fats in cooking. No water just before or during meals. Take quality sleep. These will help but for quick guaranteed result consult me privately on lybrate.

I suggest you easy method of weight gain just follow it for year you will gain weigh defiantly 1. Start exercise regularly for 3 month and then after 3 month leave it for 3 month at the time of exercise your diet will increase but same diet continue after 3 month when you stop exercise so thats why your weight will increase automatically now we discus about diet 2.take dates with milk in the morning breakfast 3.triphala kadha 4 tsp beore lunch and dinner 4.amala juice 4 tsp + 2tsp sugar + 2tsp honey in the morning empty stomach this take for 1.5 month only your weight gain will take definitely note=avoid over eating. When you are trying to gain weight, you should eat food the rich in vitamins and minerals. 1. Healthy food includes meat, egg, milk, fruit vegetables, fruits, and nuts. Cashews, almonds, dates, walnuts, dry grapes, apricots, peaches are some of the dried fruits and nuts that can be added to breakfast, salads, cereal and desserts. Sesame seeds, ground nuts, and peanuts also contain fats in them and can help in adding that extra pounds you desire. 2. Sometimes loss of appetite may also cause weight loss. So you should take following remedies improving weight A]triphala kadha 4tsp before lunch and dinner B]amala juice 4 tsp + sugar 2 tsp+ honey 2 tsp empty stomach in the morning umami flavor increases satiety and enhances appetite. Due to improving hunger and digestion whatever you will eat more and even you eat more it will digest properly and your weight will increase naturally without any supplement.

Bleeding can stop after 2 days, but as you said belly size is increasing, your doctor should be told about this as in rare cases blood instead of coming out can get collected in the uterus causing increase in belly size.

AV FISTULA Surgery And Alternate Access Options For Dialysis Patients

An AV Fistula  is the term used for a surgically created connection between an artery and a vein, usually on the arm or forearm.

Vascular Surgeon is the specialist for creating an AV Fistula, which serves as a lifeline for patients with end-stage disease of the kidneys requiring dialysis.

There are many options of the combination of artery and vein to be used for AV fistula on both arms. A good ultrasound doppler of the arm veins helps us to decide which is the best site for an AV Fistula surgery.

After an AV fistula is surgically created,  it needs a maturation time of about 4 - 6 weeks, after which it may be used for dialysis access.

The biggest advantage of an AV fistula is that it is a permanent solution for Dialysis throughout the lifetime of a patient, and carries minimal chances of failure and infection as it does not involve any artificial tube or graft to be placed inside the body.

If an AV fistula surgery is not possible due to unsuitable veins on the arms, a synthetic tube graft known as an AV graft may be surgically placed on the arm.

If an AV Fistula is failing, does not mature or gets blocked, there are many options for salvage of the fistula both surgically (thrombus removal) and endovascularly (Balloon angioplasty), to make it functional again.

A temporary venous access using different types of catheters may also be attained for dialysis, and involves placement of simple (Temporary) as well as complex (Permanent) catheters such as the PERMACATH for dialysis patients.

Hi lybrate-user deposition of fat 1. Avoid using direct and simple sugars. Try to include complex carbs in your diet so the digestion process will take some time to work to convert it into glucose. 2. Avoid junk foods such as pizza, burger, french fries and alike food stuffs. 3. Avoid processed foods. 4. Avoid sodas. 5. Restrict down the intake of artificial sweeteners. Instead you can crab on natural sugars, such as stevia. 6. Include protein of good biological value. 7. Add insoluble and soluble fiber in your diet. 8. Have plenty of cold water. 9. Have 2 portions of fruits and salads daily. 10. Inclusion of omega family fatty acids and especially omega 3 and omega 6 11. One must rotate the oil used for cooking purposes and should not stick to one oil product. One must not change the brand but the source of the oil like palm oil, almond oil, coconut oil, soy oil, sesame oil, corn oil, groundnut oil, olive oil etc. 12. Citrus fruits must also be taken in proportions. 13. Add almonds to your diet. 14. Have coconut water once a day. 15. Eat at regular intervals.
