Hi lybrate user, you mentioned having protrusion of intervertebral disc l3-4, it is important to understand the disease & prognosis first. Having protrusion is not a normal phenomenon, it occurs due to weakness of posterior part of disc (mainly annulus fibrosus, causing central gelly part nucleus to leak/ protrude backward) either due to trauma or degeneration of body due to age or lifestyle. Most of patients get relief from pain in 2-3 weeks time with conservative management (rest, medication, physio), but the main problem of disc bulge never gets healed unless some intervention is done inside. Your nucleus does not go back, neither your weak/ broken fibre of annulus gets repaired on its own. Your pain might have gone or reduced but let me assure you, your disc protrusion will remain there, till something is done (take mri after 6 months or 1 year & you will find protrusion still there),& if nothing is done you will be always prone to develop extrusion or further foraminal / canal stenosis. If you play sports make sure you take opinion from either orthopedician/ interventional pain specialist who can assess how likely your protrusion can aggravate depending upon current mri. We can not say with 100% surety batting, bowling or fielding will cause further aggravation, even sudden forward bending can aggravate it & even dive during cricket fielding might not cause aggravation. Advise would be take opinion on which activity can be easily done & which activity needs precaution. Try building back muscles, which will nit only protect spine but also distribute load from disc to other parts, mainly muscles. Hope it helps.

I live in hostel in Chandigarh. My age is 20 and my weight is 57. Sometimes I got breathing problems. From last 3-4 days I am not able to breath properly. I am able to inhale breath but not properly exhale. Sometime in a day or after one day. My body becomes hot but my hands nd feet are normal. And after sometime my heart beats also become fast and sweating is also there. Nd mind become numb like there is no soul in my body. I become so lazy. On Tuesday same thing happened to me. I went immediately to College's dispensary. I was not able to breath properly. Then doctor in dispensary check my BP. It was normal 122/82 but my pulse rate was 112 at that time. After sometime when my body stops warming up. My body starts shivering. I feel cold. And after sometime it becomes normal. At that time doctor checked my body temperature it was normal 98. No fever nothing. Same yesterday also happened the same. I was in my hostel room. Certainly my ears nd body and face become red nd hot. I put my hands on my heart. It was pumping high heart beats. Then I went to doctor again. He checked my BP it was normal 117/83 and pulse rate was 85. Today I went to dispensary again they checked my BP it was normal 122/87. But my pulse rate was 98. At that time I also feel the body becomes hot. I don't know what is happening with me. On 19th Jan. Consult a doctor. He gave me some test. Next day I went for those test nd reports are: 25-OH Vitamin D (Total): 17.68 nd range is 30-100 units Thyroid Stimulating Hormones (TSH): 1.875 and range is 0.35-5.50 hemoglobin: 12.6gm/dL and range is 12-14 TLC: 6000/cumm Total Cholesterol: 153.30 mg/dL and range is 123-200 Triglycerides: 326.10 mg/dL and range is 50-165 HDL: 49.8 mg/dL and range is 40-79.4 LDL: 129.3 mg/dL and range is 0-129 Total Cholesterol Ratio is 3.1 and Range is 0-4.97 VLDL: 65.2mg/dL and range is 7-35 LDL/HDL cholesterol ratio is 2.6 and range is 0-3.55 What should I do? I am not able breath properly. I am very worried abt my health. Please help me out and tell me abt my short breathing.

You are very tuned into what is happening with your body. But you need to tune into how the mind affects your body as well. If you are undergoing through any tension, stress, anxiety or fear, your body can react in a similar way (your body is showing symptoms of" flight" mode which is a natural body reaction to stress). You need to learn to manage stress effectively so that you can be productive and healthy. Please see a counsellor and discuss your problems with her to learn how to deal and cope with whatever is your problem.

Inspite of taking muscle gaining powder or capsules you can make your body (muscle gain) by regulating your diet naturally. Eat foods that are rich in calories like pulses, cereals, meat, bread, rice, dry fruits, and nuts. U can also follow by adding vegetables like French beans, broccoli, Chinese cabbage, carrots, lettuce, spinach, asparagus, pumpkins, and eggplants to your diet. Add a healthy portion of red meat to your diet too if you are non vegetarian. But keep in mind not to overdo it. The aim is to add weight, not cholesterol! You can even add olive oil in generous quantities to your salads. Another way to add calories to your diet is by increasing the consumption of dairy products. Donot cut back on the fat content in your milk. Do not ask for low-fat curd, paneer, cheese, at the store. Make sure you consume a full calorie dairy product. DIET CHART TO GAIN WEIGHT - Breakfast: • One, big glass of orange juice or banana shake • A bowl of oatmeal to which dried nuts like almonds, walnuts and raisins are added—using skimmed or low-fat milk and some sugar • 2-3 whole eggs, scrambled or boiled if non- vegetarian • 2-3 slices of multi-grain bread coated with a bit of butter Pre-Lunch/Mid-day Snack: A bowl of yogurt made from low-fat milk Or A few granola bars that are fortified with raisins and sesame seeds Or Whole fruits like apples or chiku or mango Lunch: • At least one form of animal meat like chicken or meat, i.e. One to two servings.(if non- vegetarian) • 4-5 rotis made from whole wheat or multi-grain flour, smeared slightly with ghee. • A big bowl of dal • A cup full of boiled rice • If eating meats is a problem, supplement it with cottage cheese made from tofu or low-fat milk Early Evening Snack: The better choice is a glass of low-fat milk to which an energy-inducing mix has been added. You can choose from a variety of malted mixtures. Try to add more of the malted mix rather than using synthetic sugar. You can use a few high-fiber biscuits or cookies to dip and munch upon. Dinner Options for Gaining Weight Dinner needs some planning since you need to end your day on a calorie high. You should combine at least one type of green vegetable along with a dal or a serving of chicken or fish with some gravy. It is better to have more of rice for dinner rather than rotis from the perspective of gaining weight. Ensure you ask the person cooking meals to use lentils with higher calorie content. This includes black grams and kidney beans. Options for Post-Dinner Snack • A few bites of dark chocolate with high cocoa content • A smoothie of fruits and yogurt • Fruits like strawberries, apples, mangoes or grapes I hope the above diet chart will help you. Hi, Weight loss is a multifactorial affair and if not done properly it keeps bouncing back. Exercise is also a important part of the same. Drink 5-6ltrs of water. Eating 5-6small frequent meals Get your diet evaluated and do the weight loss under supervision of a dietician.

No .weight loss pills are just a gimmick. It has side effects also better to take high fiber low fat diet. Drink lot of water everyday. Take small and frequent meals at regular intervals of 2-3 hrs. Avoid outside food completely. Ask me privately for customized diet plan for you.

Dear lybrateuser, -There is not much difference between whisky & vodka as both contain about the same amount of alcohol -once a week is fine if taken in limits, if you have more quantity(binging) then it is harmful for the body, preferably avoid taking it as it usually increases the craving for more over sometime & then the person can't resist taking increased quantity.

Soft drinks contain very high amounts of sugar which increases weight, phosphoric acid & caffeine which cause osteoporosis, pesticides which are very harmful for health. You can instead have coconut water, buttermilk, lassi, milk, fresh fruit juice. Exercise daily for an hour. Include some sports in your daily routine. Increase your physical activity level. Have plenty of whole fruits, raw vegetables & water. Avoid junk/ street/ fast/ processed/ packaged/ sweet foods/ chocolates/ ice cream/ sugar/ excess salt.

Go ahead and do work outs for loosing weight. Your healthy diet will help. Apart from methi will help to increase iron and regulate sugar, good for health but not the altemate medicine. So keep follow up in proper way.

If you have not exercised for a while it is worth visiting you Doctor to get a check-up before you get into any fitness program. Start your fitness programme slowly, many people rush back into their exercise programs at exactly the same level of intensity that they where at when they last exercised –remember that muscles tighten as we get older and we need to build up our level of intensity gradually – I suggest no more than a 10% increase in time, speed or intensity each week. Stretching is very important before starting your exercises. Make sure you get good instruction on the correct technique for all of your exercises before you get serious and increase the weights. Speak to one of the Physio & Fitness gym trainers if you are at all concerned about how to do any of the exercises in your program. Best wishes.

Hi, My body pains and dullness in body from 1 week. 4 months ago I had checked my blood due to some illness. In that report my HB was very low that is 6% and iron was 13%. That's it. I don't have fever or cold until today. Please advise.
