You need to increase your calorie intake by increasing your carbohydrates & protein intake. You can have parathas, cheese sandwiches in your breakfast. Increase 1 chapati more in your lunch & dinner. Add rice in your lunch. Include vegetables, dal, salad ,curd in your daily meals. You can have milkshakes, cookies fruits in between your meals. Add sweet dish. Eat every 2-3 hours.

Among the World's Healthiest vegetables, spinach comes out at the top of our ranking list for nutrient richness

M/Sc Dietetics -Outstanding Grade-82%, Registration no-SRD-006/2014, Special Registered Dietician
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Pune
Among the World's Healthiest vegetables, spinach comes out at the top of our ranking list for nutrient richness.

Rich in vitamins and minerals, it is also concentrated in health-promoting phytonutrients such as carotenoids (beta-carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin) and flavonoids to provide you with powerful antioxidant protection.

Enjoy baby spinach in your favorite salads or make a salad made exclusively of baby spinach. Spinach is one of only three vegetables that we recommend boiling to help reduce its concentration of oxalic acid.

We recommend boiling for just 3 minute to minimize loss of nutrients and flavor.

There is no harm in having two eggs per day. You may have to keep a check on your cholesterol level. As I have suggested to other patients you should consume food rich in amino acids, minerals like calcium and iron, vitamins etc.

If we eat spinach 100gm a day, weekly 4-5 times. Is it good for health or will it cause any problem like stones formation? thanks in advance.

No will not cause stone problem. If you r having stones and your urine examin shows oxalate crystls than only chance of calcium stone will increase, but not necessary to totally avoid spinach or tomato.

I feel sleepy all the time. I feel very week also. I want to be healthy and muscular. What should I do to increase my health and muscles?

Registered Dietitian, M.Sc - Dietitics / Nutrition
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Hyderabad
Hi lybrate-user. To become healthy, improve the protein intake by consuming food such as soyabeans, peanuts, chicken, tuna, eggs, cheese etc. Build up your muscle through weight training i. E lifting weights as it will stimulate your appetite. The extra muscle will speed up your metabolism and so you will need to consume more calories which will enhance your weight. Every morning jog for about half an hour. Jog at a pace that causes you to sweat and allow yourselves to take breaks in between.

I am under weight. And my digestive system is not good. If I take nutritious food no results come and my stomach starts paining. I want to increase my weight. Kindly help I am a soldier.

Dear lybrate user, increasing weight does not mean that you will go fatty. In fact, extra fat serves as a precursor of many diseases. In order to increase your weight as well as stay healthy you have to increase the muscle mass of your body. Normally a muscle undergoes an increase in size when it gets hypertrophied due to weight training. Weight-training leads to the pumping of blood to the muscle resulting in increased protein synthesis in the muscles. This applies to every muscles of human body. So, weight training is a must to increase weight. Whenever a muscle gets hypertrophied it demands protein to expand. Here comes the need of protein supplement. The most effective protein supplement is whey protein. But kindly remember only taking supplement is not enough. You need to take those supplements according to a fixed schedule. For quicker & better results take 40 grams of whey just after waking from sleep at morning. Take another 20 grams of whey just 30 minutes before workout. Again take 40 grams of whey just after you have finished your workout. Kindly remember gaining weight is a time -taking process. So do not expect any result within fortnight.

Can Walking While Eating Can Lead to Weight Gain?

Dietitian,Nutritionist & Health Management, Sports Nutritionist, Health Coach

Can Walking While Eating Can Lead to Weight Gain?

Some new studies have shown that eating while you are walking can cause weight gain. The findings have said that while walking you tend to consume more food than when you are stagnant. However, not only walking but also while conversing with others or watching television increases your urge to consume more food.

The reasons for which you may consume more food while walking are:

  1. If you sometimes eat on the go then you can consume more food later in the day. Because while eating we did not concentrate how much of amount we consumed.
  2. One more reason of consuming much food can be that walking is one powerful distraction. As you do not completely concentrate on your food it falls into mindless eating.
  3. Concentrating on your food is a significant part of enjoying your food and managing weight gain.
  4. When you sit down and eat, you tend to focus on how much food you are taking in one bite, and chew properly. Nevertheless, when walking and eating none of these happens.
  5. When you walk and eat, you do not pay attention to what you are eating. While on the go you just grab whatever food satiates your hunger and this leads to weight gain later.

There are also some simple steps to avoid over eating. They are:

  1. Sit on a table and eat slowly.
  2. Chew your food properly.
  3. You should stop eating when you first start feeling that you are full.
  4. Try to eat as many vegetables as you can and try to avoid junk foods.

Weight gain and obesity is also associated with our mind. When we start consuming food, our brain takes at least 20 minutes to connect to our stomach. So, eating slowly is a much needed for avoiding weight gain.
