Here are some tips to help you look after your teeth.

1. Brush at least twice a day.
The best time to brush teeth is after meals. Choose a toothbrush with a small head for better access to back teeth. Soft bristles are kinder on your gums.

2. Use fluoridated toothpaste.
Fluoride helps to harden tooth enamel and reduces your risk of decay.

3. Brush thoroughly.
Tooth brushing should take between two and three minutes.

4. Floss your teeth daily.
Use a slow and gentle sawing motion.

5. Limit acidic drinks like soft drinks, cordials and fruit juices.
Food acids soften tooth material and dissolve the minerals in tooth enamel, causing holes (cavities or caries). In severe cases, teeth may be ‘eaten’ right down to the gum.

6. Limit sugary foods.
Bacteria in dental plaque change sugars into acids.

7. Protect your teeth from injury.
Wear a mouth guard or full-face helmet when playing sports.

8. Try to save a knocked out tooth.
If possible, hold the tooth back in place while you seek immediate dental advice. If this is not possible, wrap the tooth in plastic or place it in milk and seek dental advice immediately.

9. Avoid using your teeth for anything other than chewing food.
If you use them to crack nuts, remove bottle tops or rip open packaging, you risk chipping or even breaking your teeth.

10. See your dentist for regular check-ups.
You should also visit your dentist if you have a dental problem such as a toothache or bleeding gums.

Will it wear fully lower tooth after having crowns on upper teeth that is zinconia metal.

BDS, PG Diploma In PG Advance Course Of Oral Implantology On New Generation Implants, PGDHHM
Dentist, Gurgaon
Hello No it will not wear your opposing tooth porcelain is almost same wear resistance as enamel(outermost layer of tooth) but if a full metal crown is present opposing a natural tooth there are chances of abrasion of natural tooth

I am 28 years male. Suffering from dental pain at left upper m1 and m2. The dentist took the xray and explained as m2 is completely infected and m1 is infected but in the outermost layer of enamel. What should i do now?

MDS - Orthodontics
Dentist, Mumbai
For the upper first molar you need to get it filled to prevent further infection and for second molar the teeth would need root canal treatment.

Hi , I am 21 year old , my jaw is not open perfectly, I chewing tobacco, so please tell me treatment.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
Quit habits strictly. Seems like you have oral submucous fibrosis (osmf). Kindly consult an oral & maxillo facial surgeon in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need conservative or surgical management for mouth opening depending upon the stage of osmf. Advise full mouth opening, ballooning exercise & side to side movement of the jaw. Wrap 25 to 30 ice-cream sticks, make a bundle, put it between upper & lower front teeth for 15 minutes thrice a day increase 1 sticks each day.

Hello doctor I have teeth problem as usual a little bleeding in the morning while brushing the teeth and a little awkward small as well as.

BDS
Dentist, Bangalore
There are so many causes of bleeding gums - - brushing too hard - poor oral hygiene. - vitamin deficiency - taking blood thinners or other medications - bleeding or clotting disorders - mouth sores - other medical problems, including diabetes, heart disease, leukemia or scurvy few advice to stop bleeding gums-- - visit to a dentist for professional cleaning once in a year - use a soft toothbrush -- and brush properly! brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day and after meals. Hard brushing can further damage the soft tissues of your mouth. - floss at least once a day and be sure to floss beyond the gum line to remove more plaque. - control bleeding by applying pressure to the area with a cold compress. - rinse with salt water to keep the area clean. - Avoid mouthwashes that contain alcohol, which can dry out your mouth. - stay away from smoking and other tobacco products, which can aggravate bleeding gums.

I am 45 yrs old male. Rashes developed in the inner wall of my cheek. Please tell me the remedies.

MDS - Orthodontics, BDS
Dentist,
Rashes developing in the inner wall of the cheek may be due to a variety of reasons. Mostly it occurs due to chemicals released from tobacco products or may be due to decreased immunity or prolonged use of antibiotics. Kindly consult the dentist to identify the factor responsible for it.

I had a dental problem I am suffering long enough with the same problem when should I different your types.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Root canal treatment is needed when the blood or nerve supply of the tooth (called the ‘pulp') is infected through decay or injury. You may not feel any pain in the early stages of the infection. In some cases your tooth could darken in colour, which may mean that the nerve of the tooth has died (or is dying). This would need root canal treatment.

You can exercise for healthier gums as well. Gently bite down so as to make sure that your teeth make a clinking sound when they meet. Repeat this 30 to 40 times continously. This exercise will stimulate the flow of blood and will keep your gums healthy.

My one front teeth has changed in yellow color and in my front uper gum has swel. Kindly suggest me.

Foods/drinks. Coffee, tea, colas, wines, and certain fruits and vegetables (for example, apples and potatoes) can stain your teeth. Tobacco use. Smoking or chewing tobacco can stain teeth. Poor dental hygiene. Inadequate brushing, flossing, and rinsing with an antiseptic mouthwash to remove plaque and stain-producing substances like coffee and tobacco can cause tooth discoloration. Disease. Several diseases that affect enamel (the hard surface of the teeth) and dentin (the underlying material under enamel) can lead to tooth discoloration. The best treatment for swelling gums is to remove from your teeth the plaque bacteria that causes gum disease. When dental plaque builds up, it turns into tartar, a hard, sticky substance that adheres to your teeth. Without regular teeth cleanings, dental tartar can become a breeding ground for even more plaque, which can creep below the gum line and lead to an infection that causes swelling gums. DENTAL TIPS: - Visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

I am 25 years old, I have yellow spots in my teeth. How to remove it? Please advise.

MDS - Prosthodontist and Implantologist, Root canal certificate, BDS
Dentist, Noida
Hi , yellow spots on the gum level towards the tooth must be calculus. Calculus is formed due to accumulation of plaque. It cannot be removed by brushing. You need to visit a dentist to get ultrasonic scaling (cleaning) done for healthy gums and a beautiful smile. If the spots are on the tooth surface it might be stains. Please visit a dentist for an evaluation for a better diagnosis.

How to remove discoloration of teeth. They are turning brown gradually? Is it due to heavy intake of coffee?

BDS
Dentist, Kolar
Yes heavy intake of coffee discolours your teeth. These discolourations may not be successfully removed by scalling alone n hence may require bleaching. Meanwhile reduce coffee intake n try snowdent toothpaste.

BDS
Dentist, Durgapur
If there is not any difficulty while swallowing or talking then you don't need to worry abt it. It will get normal with time. In the meantime make a habit of gargling with warm saline once a day.

My teeth are very paining from last two month. I think it is cavity effect. What is your suggestion?

BDS (GOLD MEDALIST)
Dentist, Jamshedpur
Hi, if there is caries or cavity get it filled as early as possible because if cavity grows deeper pulp will expose, you will have more pain and discomfort. And then rct will be only option for you. Painkillers are not for permanent cure.
