Dear lybrate-user, procrastination is a common problem, but if not dealt with soon enough, can result in serious consequences in the future. First thing you should know is that you are not able to concentrate, not because your procrastinate, but because you procrastinate, and thus you are not able to concentrate. Procrastination, fidgeting and all sbuch distractive phenomena arise when either your brain is anxious, or your brain is unable to work out a way from a problem you are facing or just because you might not have anything to do. For instance let us say your exams just got over and you don't do any work for a long time, making the recently finished exams a reason for not working. Now what happens is your brain gets used to this routine of" no work" for a long time. And thus, when you start working again, you suddenly realise you had to do so much more. Because your brain starts picking up the fragments of works which were left undone. And this happens to a lot of people. There are multitudinous ways you can control procrastination. But by far the best solution is" meditation" and it is exactly this phenomenon which we intend to control by meditating. And meditation has many forms. You don't have to sit on the floor for hours in" dhayn mudras" meditation is the art of learning how to focus. You can start with anything you like (reading, music. Start with 15 min. Every day. And then, increase it to 30 min. And then an hour or two. You might not have observed but people don't generally procrastinate while doing something they love. Hope this will help you. With best wishes.

Diabetic Macular Edema - Know More About It!

Diabetic Macular Edema - Know More About It!

Diabetic Macular Edema (DME) is an accumulation of fluid in the macula(part of the retina that controls our most detailed vision abilities)due to leaking blood vessels. DME develops in eyes wth diabetic retinopathy. Diabetic retinopathy is a disease that damages the blood vessels in the retina, resulting in vision impairment. Left untreated, these blood vessels begin to build up pressure in the eye and leak fluid, causing DME.

DME is associated with:

  1. Those who have had diabetes for an extended amount of time
  2. Severe hypertension (high blood pressure)
  3. Fluid retention
  4. Hypoalbuminemia (low levels of protein in body fluids)
  5. Hyperlipidemia (high levels of fats in the blood)

Symptoms: Common symptoms of DME are

  1. Blurry vision
  2. Floaters
  3. Double vision
  4. Eventually blindness if it goes untreated

Who is at risk of diabetic macular oedema:

About 1 in 3 people with diabetes develop macular Eedema. People with type 1 and type 2 diabetes are at a higher risk of getting diabetic macular oedema. Also other risk factors are:

  1. Poor control of blood sugars
  2. High blood pressure
  3. High cholesterol level
  4. Pregnancy
  5. In smokers

How is diabetic macular oedema detected:
Diabetic macular oedema can be detected during regular visits to the doctor. Patients with diabetes should be offered screening tests. Digital photographs of the patients can be taken as they show the early signs of diabetic macular oedema, though changes in vision might not be noticed at this time.

What happens when you attend the medical retina clinic:
When you go for an eye checkup you will undergo a comprehensive examination which includes:

  1. Visual acuity test: This is a sight test which measures how well you can see the different distances
  2. Eye pressure test: This test is done to measure the pressure of the eyes and usually drops which numb the eyes are used when this test is conducted
  3. Dilated eye examination: In this the drops are placed in the eye to dilate the pupils and then the back of the eye is examined.
  4. Fluorescein angiography: This is a diagnostic test in which an injection of fluorescein dye is given in the hand and then the photographs are taken.
  5. Optical coherence tomography: This is done to measure the retinal swelling

How to reduce the risks of diabetic macula oedema:
The risk of diabetic macula oedema can be reduced by quitting smoking, and to make sure that blood sugar and cholesterol levels are under control. This is achieved by regularly measuring the cholesterol and blood sugar levels. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an ophthalmologist.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. I have gone through the details given. I learn that you have T2 DM, and you are on Insulin plus oral drugs. But there is absolutely no mention about blood glucose levels, & HbA1c%, to know whether diabetes is in control. Usually if blood glucose is in control, then proper diet and exercise do help in improving weight. Plus occasionally there may be a need for taking some protein supplements. Unless all the necessary details are given, there is no way to give any suggestions or any advise. Thanks.

Ni I don't think nail paint affects it. It can be a fungal infection or some vitamin deficiency. You may take homoeopathic medicine Silicea 6C TDs for 3 days. Report after 10 days.

It's a myth. Masturbation does not causes memory issues but anxiety definitely cases memory problems. So we must rule out anxiey due this myth. Do regular exert n deep breathing exercises. Consultant for complete care.

For permanent cure homoeopathic treatment is best.. the only thing it requires is the medicine should be prescribed on detailed case... considering all the details of the patient and not only the disease name.. So you will need to consult... You may consult any homoeopath of your choice.... If you want you may try taking Tuberculinum 1M 1 dose...

Hello Drs, am suffering from varicose veins for 30 years up to now no pain but some times scratching my self, under doppler, it showered damaged valves and perforation. And the Dr. told me that I should go under surgery, I would like to know where I can do laser surgery in kolkata-west bengali, and again I would also like to ask is there is no re-occurrence after use of laser treatment, Thank you.

MBBS, MS - General Surgery, MCh - Vascular Surgery
Vascular Surgeon, Bangalore
I understand that you have been fairly alright with having varicose veins for the last 30 years. But body has a tolerance. If your scan is showing damage which requires it to be treated, it is better to undergo the procedure in order to avoid complications. Skin damage in Varicose veins is not completely reversible. Any procedure associated with Varicose veins has a 10-15% risk of recurrence. I am not sure as to who does laser varicose vein procedure at Kolkata.

I have a baby of 4 years, he has A+ blood group & I am AB-. My husband is O+. Is there any problem in 2nd baby. One laproscopy surgery was done for ovarian cycst 3 years before the delivery of first baby. I am 34 years old. What is the limit of age so that I try for the 2nd baby.

Don't delay 2nd pregnancy. Get repeat usg to know whether there is any cyst or not. All the cysts do not need treatment. Now regarding blood group, did you receive any injection (anti rh-d) after delivery of 1st baby. In that case, chance of affection of 2nd baby is low. Still after pregnancy you need close observation and serial monitoring of blood and sometimes usg to detect the baby's condition by the earliest.
