Hi. I am Dr. Vinod Raina. I am a sexologist based in South Delhi. Today we are going to talk about Sexual Dysfunction.

What is sexual dysfunction? It is a disease in which a patient is not able to perform sex properly.

What is the meaning of proper sex? The meaning is that a person should have proper sexual intercourse for more than 45 minutes which should not include the time of foreplay. If we include the time of foreplay, then the duration of one sexual intercourse should be a minimum of 90 to 100 minutes. If a patient is not able to perform for more than 5 to 10 minutes that means that the patient is suffering from sexual dysfunction, he is suffering from premature ejaculation or early ejaculation.

What can be the causes? Nowadays the people are working from morning to evening. They do not have time for walking or to do exercise. They are smoking, drinking and their lifestyle is also not good. They do not sleep for more than 7 hours. These things create anxiety and stress upon the human beings which lead to severe sexual dysfunction.

So how can we prevent it? We have to walk properly for 45 minutes every day. You have to Brisk walk in 45 minutes and you have to complete a minimum of 5 to 6 kilometers. You have to stop smoking and drinking or you can take only 60 to 120 ml of alcohol per day. You have to take proper diet. Increase the quantity of almonds, walnuts in your daily diet. You should take 10 to 15 almonds, 1 to 2 walnuts daily. You can take flex seed, broccoli twice in a week. You can take fish if you are a non-vegetarian and if you are a vegetarian you can take Kali urad ki daal two to three times a week and you have to take 300 to 400 grams of fruits daily. If you are doing these things, then definitely your sexual desire and sexual time will increase and moreover you have to see less television because watching television for long creates problems.

So guys, remember, in order to have a very good sex life walk for 45 minutes, take good diet including walnuts, almonds, and fish and have a normal stress less life. Then definitely your life will be cool and you will have a longer sexual intercourse time. Even if the problem persists then definitely you have to go to a sexologist doctor. My name is Dr Vinod Raina. I’m a sexologist. We will be talking today on the topic of ED.

What can be the causes for ED?

Basically, it has been seen that number of patients who are chain smokers, who smoke approximate 10-15 or 20 cigarettes a day, they have this disease called ED.

What happens, what are the causes? And why smoking is responsible for ED?

Basically, when a patient smokes, the smoke goes into the lungs, and then from the lungs, the smoke is transported to all the parts of the body through the vessels. These vessels are choked by the smoke, and the microvessels, present in all the parts of the body gets stenosed and then the blood circulation does not take place properly. So, a penis is the first and foremost part of the body which gets affected because there are a number of micro-vessels present in the penis and these arteries, or veins, or micro-vessels get choked and the circulation of blood gets compensated and then this process of ED starts in the body.

So what we can do?

Definitely, you have to stop smoking. There are people who smoke 15-20 cigarettes per day, it is very high. You please stop smoking.

Moreover, it has been seen that some patients who are drinking, who drink heavily and been drinking with smoke, the WHO recommendation is only 2 pegs per day. That means, not more than 60-90 ml of alcohol. But there are people, youngsters, who drink, 5 to 8 to 10 pegs a day, so there’s a huge consumption of alcohol.

What it leads?

It leads to severe stress in the body and this stress leads to the erectile dysfunction. Moreover, it has been seen that there are people who work from morning to evening, they don’t have time for a walk, their lifestyle is not good, they take junk food, they drink carbonated drinks, these things also effect Erectile dysfunction. So, if you want to lead a healthy life:

  • You have to walk for 45 minutes a day
  • You have to take a proper diet.
  • You have to take at least 10-15 almonds every day
  •  2-3 walnuts every day, and if you are a non-vegetarian.
  • You can take fish two times a week, and if you are a vegetarian, then definitely, you can take broccoli, two to three times a week or you can take kaali urad ki daal.

That definitely will solve your problem.

And if the problem is not solved by these things, then definitely you have to visit a sexologist who can treat your problem.

My name is Dr. Vinod Raina, you can meet me on the platform of Lybrate. You can visit www.lybrate.com/Dr. Vinod Raina

Bent Penis Ruining Your Sex Life? What Men Need to Know About Peyronie's Disease

Fibrosis is a term many people are familiar with but don't really know much about or understand. Most people know that it's often associated with the liver and too much alcohol (on a long-term basis), but few men would think it could have any connection with penis health at all. Surprisingly, however, fibrosis can be an issue in the penis.

What is fibrosis?

This makes sense if one has a better understanding of just what fibrosis is. According to Wikipedia, fibrosis is "the formation of excess fibrous connective tissue in an organ or tissue in a reparative or reactive process." Connective tissue is one of the four basic types of tissue found in animals. As the name implies, it's there to connect different tissues together. Fibrous connective tissue is therefore a good thing - but excess fibrous connective tissue is not.

Most people are already familiar with fibrous tissue without knowing it. When a person gets a scar, that's due to fibrous tissue. A scar that helps a wound to heal is good - but too much fibrous tissue in an organ may not be good. To use the liver example, when fibrosis sets in, all that scarring keeps the liver from doing its job properly, and that can lead to all sorts of problems.

Penile fibrosis

Some men may already be familiar with fibrosis in the penis without realizing it. Peyronie's disease, a condition is which the penis is severely bent, is most often caused by a build-up of scar tissue - by fibrosis, in other words.

But fibrosis may be present in other parts of the genitals than just the shaft of the penis. And some doctors believe that fibrosis may in some cases play a role in erectile dysfunction.

In the erectile process, the smooth muscles have to be in good working order. When they are damaged, the penis' ability to obtain or maintain an erection can be significantly curtailed. (There can be other factors which contribute to erectile dysfunction as well.) Damage to the smooth muscles often comes about as a result of insufficient oxygen flow, which tends to naturally occur in most men as a consequence of aging. That's one reason an older man may have a more difficult time with erections than a younger one. This decrease in the amount of oxygen over time causes fibrosis to appear on the smooth muscles, inhibiting their ability to function properly and thereby inhibiting the erection.

Treatment

When fibrosis results in Peyronie's disease, there are numerous treatment modalities a man can try, including oral medications and surgery. There is a varying degree of success with any of these methods.

Penile fibrosis related to the smooth muscles or fibrotic damage to other nearby areas of the penis is less advanced, with many treatments in early stages. Use of penile prostheses or surgery to remove fibrosis and reconstruct the damaged area is sometimes used. Studies are looking at the use of specific products in animal models which may one day provide a less invasive alternative for humans.

Preventing penile fibrosis by maintaining overall good health is urged. It also pays to pay specific attention to penis health, and daily use of a superior penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) helps maintain that organ's health. Seek out a good crème that contains both L-arginine and L-carnitine. L-arginine is an amino acid that helps produce nitric oxide, an ingredient needed for helping penile blood vessels stay open and receptive to oxygen-rich blood. L-carnitine is a neuroprotective ingredient with an affinity for helping restore diminished sensation in overworked penises.

Ejaculation Problems: When Orgasms Are Dry

Men tend to have many different feelings about ejaculation, most of them positive. True, sometimes the timing of a guy's ejaculation may be a little off, but in general men look forward to the experience with anticipation and glee. And, of course, aspects of ejaculation are tied into matters of penis health as well. All of which explains why a man who experiences ejaculation problems such as anejaculation may feel worried and anxious.

What is anejaculation?

When a man has anejaculation, he is unable to ejaculate, even when the penis is directly stimulated during either partner-based sex of masturbation. There are two different kinds of anejaculation, one of which has two further categories:

- Situational anejaculation. In this kind of anejaculation, a man is capable of ejaculating when he masturbates or having an ejaculation through nocturnal emission, but not through forms of partner-based sexual activity. This may mean no form of partner-based sex produces an ejaculation, or it may mean only specific forms are ineffective. For example, a man might not be able to ejaculate during vaginal sex but may through oral sex or through the partner's physical manipulation of his penis.

- Total or complete anejaculation. As the name implies, with total or complete anejaculation, there is no ejaculation at all. There are two categories of importance here. One is orgasmic anejaculation, in which a man still experiences an orgasm even without ejaculation. The other is inorgasmic anejaculation, in which neither ejaculation nor orgasm is experienced, even when masturbating.

Exactly how common anejaculation may be is difficult to determine. However, one study that looked at various ejaculatory issues in men found that 37% of the men with ejaculatory problems included anejaculation among their issues.

It should also be noted that sometimes what is diagnosed as orgasmic anejaculation may in fact be retrograde ejaculation, a situation in which semen is rerouted into the bladder rather eliminated via urethral ejaculation. Measuring urine for semen content can verify the proper diagnosis.

What causes it?

Why might a man experience anejaculation? There can be numerous causes. It may be due to a psychological factor which causes discomfort that interferes with the penis' ability to react. Sometimes it may be due to a partner not being able to provide stimulation in such a way as to bring about the desired effect; for example, they may be stimulating a less sensitive part of the penis, maybe be unable to enfold the penis in a snug enough manner, or the penis may have been de-sensitized due to rough handling.

There can be some specific physical causes, such as an obstruction in the ejaculatory duct that prevents the semen from flowing through. A spinal cord injury can also make ejaculation difficult and in some cases impossible, depending upon the severity of the injury. Or if there is damage to the autonomic nervous system, which regulates "unconscious" nervous system responses, this can impede ejaculation as well.

Some neurological diseases, such as Parkinson's and multiple sclerosis, also can bring this about, as can diabetes. And in some cases, antidepressant or antipsychotic medications may be the culprit.

When the cause is physical or medicine-related, doctors can sometimes take management steps that can reduce or eliminate the problem. If the anejaculation is due to psychological factors, a man will need to undergo psychological counseling and/or sex therapy. Often cognitive-behavioral therapy is useful in identifying the psychological cause and determining how to overcome the problem.

Working out the reasons for and treatment of anejaculation is crucial. Things are made easier if steps are taken to keep the penis in good general health, such as regularly using a penis health creme (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin). Men should definitely seek out a crème that include L-carnitine, an amino acid shown to protect against peripheral nerve damage caused by friction, compression, and other common injuries, which can lead to reduced sensation or numbness. The crème should also include vitamin B5. Also called pantothenic acid, this vitamin is required for cell metabolism and maintenance of healthy tissue.

Orgasm Problem In Men: What Is POIS?

Orgasm Problem In Men: What Is POIS?

Orgasm Problem in Men: What Is POIS?

All the activity leading up to an orgasm usually leaves a man feeling satisfied, contented and a little tired after the big event finally occurs, especially if a guy practices proper penis care and keeps his equipment in good working order. But not every man feels so good after an orgasm. As a matter of fact, some men suffer from a rare orgasm problem called post-orgasmic illness syndrome (or POIS) that makes them feel downright bad.

About POIS

POIS was first diagnosed in 2002, and since that time the medical literature has reported 50 cases of it. However, there have been few actual studies of POIS, and so the exact number of cases and how common it may be are unknown at this time. Although considered a rare disorder, it is also likely under-reported. So while it's doubtful it will ever be classified as "common," it is likely that there are more men out there suffering from it than is currently known.

Flu

So what is POIS, then? It's a condition in which a man ejaculates - either through masturbation or with a partner - and soon thereafter experiences symptoms that are usually similar to those of the flu. These symptoms may start up within a few minutes of orgasm or may not occur for a few hours. The duration is unpredictable, with some cases going away relatively quickly and others lasting for up to a week.

Symptoms

The symptoms commonly associated with POIS include extreme fatigue, muscle weakness, fever, sweatiness and/or chills, itchy eyes, mood disturbances and irritability. There may be cognitive disturbances, as well. These may take the form of difficulty concentrating and remembering things, as well as problems speaking coherently.

In some men, POIS begins in puberty and is called primary POIS. If it starts later in life, it is considered secondary POIS. As mentioned, there are few studies involving POIS, but case reports do indicate that men with POIS are much more likely to experience premature ejaculation on a regular basis, with time between penetration and ejaculation typically a minute or less. The reason for this link is not known at this time.

Causes

The cause or causes of POIS are not understood yet; however, in many cases it is hypothesized that POIS is an autoimmune disorder in which the body has an allergic reaction to semen. In autoimmune disorders, the body mistakes a natural component or function of the body for an alien entity and therefore creates antibodies to try to get rid of it. In one experiment, 33 POIS sufferers were pricked with a pin that contained their own semen; 29 of them experienced a negative skin reaction to this. This seems to support the autoimmune allergic reaction theory.

Another theory is that chemical imbalances in the brain - which would occur after orgasm - might be responsible for POIS.

POIS has thus far almost always been diagnosed in men; there have been very few cases of POIS in women, although it may be that there are more which have simply not been reported.

At the time, there are no treatments, but scientists are experimenting with various protocols which may bear fruit in the future.

Fortunately, most men do not suffer from POIS - but they still need to keep their penises healthy. Daily use of a superior penis health creme (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) can help. Look for a crème with L-arginine, which helps to boost nitric oxide production and thereby enables penile blood vessels to expand and receive greater blood flows. The crème should also include vitamin A, the anti-bacterial properties of which can fight one of the causes of persistent and unappealing penis odor.

The Aging Penis And Its Impact On Sexual Health

The Aging Penis and Its Impact on Sexual Health

When a guy is in his prime of life, it's hard to even imagine that a day could come when his interest in sex might have died down. Young guys feel "up and at 'em" on what seems like a 24-hour-a-day basis. But what about when they get older? Society's perception of older men tends to be one of guys who have much less sexual desire than they used to; worse, the stereotype is that even when they do feet hot and bothered, they often can't attain the erectile status that they need to satisfy the desire. But is there a basis for this view? Can keeping an eye on proper care have an impact on a man's aging penis?

Research

A 2009 article from the Journal of Sex Research provides a good starting point for looking into this issue. The article states that "biological factors have an indisputable effect on sexual activity among the elderly, but they do not directly determine it." Yes, aging does have a direct impact on the physical functioning of the male sexual apparatus, and other indirect health factors, such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes, which may increase in prevalence among an aging population, can also play a big role.

With information drawn from two national sex surveys from Finland in the 1990s, the study found that aging men had more sex than aging women and that sexual activity among aging men depended largely on an individual's sexual self-esteem, good health and an active sexual history. In other words, those who took care of themselves physically, had a good opinion of their general sexual ability and had been sexually active earlier in life generally continued to be more sexually active later in life.

More recent research

A 2016 study ("Sexual Quality of Life and Aging: A Prospective Study of a Nationally Representative Sample") looked at this perceived problem and came up with a different point of view. Analyzing data from more than 6200 men and women from the Midlife in the United State study, the scientists sought to include aging with such sexual factors as frequency, number of sexual partners, etc. When incorporating all of these factors, aging went from being negatively correlated with sexual quality of life to being positively correlated with it. It was felt that the sexual quality of life of older adults (both male and female) was affected more by the quality rather than the quantity of sexual activity. In other words, aging brought with it a kind of sexual wisdom in which sexual satisfaction had a changing definition for the participants.

More recently, a 2018 article looked at the sex lives of elderly men and women in Europe. "Seventy-Five Years Old and Still Going Strong: Stability and Change in Sexual Interest and Sexual Enjoyment in Elderly Men and Women Across Europe" examined about 3800 people in Denmark, Norway, Belgium and Portugal. It concluded that "good health, an active sex life throughout the lifespan, direction of relationship, and feeling emotionally close to partner during sex" were the major factors for sexual satisfaction among the aging set.

All these studies indicate that, while there may be some changes as one ages, it is quite possible to have a satisfying sex life in the later years.

One common factor is the state of one's penis health, so men should really consistently make use of a top drawer penis health creme (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin). The most sought-after cremes will include a wide range of healthy, beneficial vitamins, including A, B5, C, D and E, the topical application of which can more directly target the penis. Also desirable in a crème is L-arginine, which helps boost nitric oxide production and thereby aids in keeping penile blood vessels open for increased blood volume.

Male Multiple Orgasms: Myth Or Fact?

Male Multiple Orgasms: Myth Or Fact?

Male Multiple Orgasms: Myth or Fact?

Men have long been fascinated by the fact that women are capable of having multiple orgasms. Perhaps because so many men find their own orgasms to be so enjoyable, males are often curious as to whether they could ever be capable of experiencing those multiple waves of pleasure. And if so, how? Is it a matter of some lucky physical trait? Or is a man simply going to have to get used to the fact that one wonderful orgasm is enough and not be greedy about having more?

Multiple orgasms

What exactly is a multiple orgasm? There is debate over the exact definition of this oft-used phrase, but in general it refers to the ability to experience more than one orgasm during the same sexual situation (whether through partner sex or through masturbation). In general, there is some "down time" between the orgasms, usually a few minutes - although it can be shorter or longer.

Hard statistics are difficult to come by. One survey found that 15% of women have experienced multiple orgasms at least once, where another found the figure was 26%.

In women, the multiple orgasm is essentially dependent upon proper stimulation of the clitoris - which means that it needs to be neither over- nor under-stimulated. Since the clitoris can become very sensitive as a consequence of a first orgasm, finding the "just right" level of stimulation to achieve a second is especially tricky.

Men

Meanwhile, men are not usually built for multiple orgasms. Although it is possible to orgasm without ejaculation, usually the two are linked - and after ejaculation, a man's physical processes typically begin making a second ejaculation difficult. Most notably, the penis tends to lose its erection rather quickly as blood is released from the organ.

Very few scientific studies have focused on male multiple orgasms. One 2016 study could only locate 15 peer-reviewed, published documents. Some of the documents are single case studies, such as a 2015 paper which examined a man who has regularly experienced multiple orgasms since he began ejaculating at age 15. During the study, he experienced six orgasms in the space of 36 minutes, maintaining his erection throughout. Another study documented an individual who experienced three orgasms, though he did not ejaculate until the final one.

Most studies seem to indicate that men who do experience multiple orgasms experience the first one with ejaculation, but that the subsequent ones are "dry." However, there are exceptions to this.

Although this has not been definitively proven, it appears that a man's prolactin levels may determine whether he can orgasm multiple times. Prolactin is a hormone, the levels of which tend to rise in men after they orgasm. This seems to have a "dampening" effect on their libido. So while studies have not been done to prove this, it appears that men who can experience multiple orgasms may be doing so because they produce less prolactin - or perhaps because something overrides the prolactin after it is produced.

All of which is to say that yes, some men can indeed experience multiple orgasms - and perhaps one day, science will find a way to make this more achievable for more men.

When that day comes, a man wants his penis to be in good enough shape to withstand such ecstasy - so guys should daily apply a first class penis health creme (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin). There are two ingredients in particular to watch out for in a crème: vitamin C and L-arginine. A guy wants vitamin C because it is a component of collagen, which keeps penis skin elastic and is vital for erections (as well as helpful for cardiovascular health). And L-arginine is an amino acid which helps the body produce nitric oxide - which in turn keeps penile blood vessels open for the increased blood flow which enables erections to occur.

Protecting Penis Skin From Free Radicals

Healthy, good looking penis skin is not only a sign of penis health, it also is one of the key attractors that can make a partner appreciate a penis and want to get to know it better. That's why taking excellent care of penis skin should be on every man's care regimen. And that's also why men should be taking steps to protect that delicate penis skin from the damage that can be inflicted by free radicals.

What are free radicals(FR's)?

While the name "FR's" conjures up images of politically active youth from the 1960s, the term actually means something quite different. But to better understand free radicals, a little basic science is needed.

Molecules are composed of atoms, and atoms contain pairs of electrons. But sometimes an atom is missing one of those electrons, and when that happens, it is considered a FR's.

But atoms prefer to be "complete" and have both electrons, so when they are FR's, they try to grab an electron to stabilize them. When they grab these needed electrons from the skin, they can damage the skin. Specifically, it weakens the DNA in such a way that aging occurs more rapidly in the skin. This can account for why penis skin may have an older, unhealthy appearance.

Skin damaged by FR's may be splotchy or have an unhealthy color, or it may be loose and saggy. And free radical damage isn't limited to the skin; FR's are also thought to contribute to other health conditions, such as heart disease and cancer. They can cause damage to cell walls and to DNA, given enough time.

Causes:

So FR's come about when an atom is missing an electron. But since people can't see atoms and electrons with the naked eye, are there things they can avoid to help prevent FR's from attacking them? Fortunately, yes. A person is more likely to encounter FR's due to factors such as excess stress, an unhealthy diet, too much alcohol consumption, smoking, pollution and exposure to harsh UV sunlight.

Fighting FR's

Now in order to help fight the FR's, it behooves a man to make lifestyle changes - such as stopping smoking or making sure he wears sufficient sunscreen when going outdoors in the summer or learning how to meditate to relieve stress. Another of the most important things a man can do is to make sure he gets enough antioxidants.

Antioxidants are nutrients and enzymes that can help strengthen and repair skin tissue. They are able to pass on an extra electron to a free radical, turning it back into a normal atom. Antioxidants may be found naturally in certain foods, or they may be obtained from chemically-made sources. So adding plenty of antioxidant-rich foods to the diet can make a difference.

If a man wants to target free radical damage that has caused penis skin issues, one of the best ways to do so if by using on a daily basis a first rate penis health creme (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin). The key, of course, is to be sure that the crème in question contains plenty of antioxidants. For example, an "ACE" crème - one with vitamins A,C and E - is best, as these vitamins have excellent antioxidant properties. It's even better if the crème also contains alpha lipoic acid, which is considered one of the most potent antioxidants around. The topical application of a crème rich in antioxidants directly to the penis can help to strengthen and smooth penis skin and help it regain its youthful appearance.

Low Testosterone Levels Can Cause Erectile Dysfunction - Here's How To Naturally Boost Your Sex Life

Erectile dysfunction is the mostly consistent inability to achieve or maintain an erection. Inadequate blood flow to the manhood due to weak circulation or narrowing arteries is a cause and low testosterone levels can be the culprit.

Testosterone, also more known as the male sex hormone, has multiple roles in the body for a man. The major function is how your sexual life performs. After your early twenties you will start to lose 1-2% of your testosterone every year.

When testosterone levels decrease, you may see an effect on your emotional state of mind, energy levels, general body strength and vitality.

What are the signs?

It is beneficial to understand the symptoms, so that you can boost levels naturally. Some of the more common symptoms are:

• Loss in early morning erections: Waking with an erection is common for men, but does a lack of morning wood mean erectile dysfunction? If you find you are losing morning erections, then you might have low testosterone levels. It can be the initial symptom noticed in men. Since the levels are higher during the morning, you need to wake up regularly with an erection. If they no longer happen, you should immediately seek help. There are herbal medicines available such as Malaysian ginseng which can increase libido. enhance sexual performance.

• Enhanced body fat: Low testosterone seems to cause weight gain in men and is one of the risk factors for lower than normal levels of hormones. If there is additional weight and in the absence of testosterone, the hormone estrogen takes over. Estrogen is said to be feminizing, thereby can bring about male breasts and excess weight on other parts of the body.

• Muscle mass loss: Maintaining muscle can be a problem as symptoms of low testosterone can also include decreased muscle and strength. Testosterone is required for building and maintaining lean body mass and if levels get decrease too much, then lethargy, and fatigue can develop.

• Lack of libido: Lack of sex drive can result from low testosterone. Low testosterone can reduce your ability to have a fulfilling sex life. Just as low levels of testosterone can restrict erectile function, it can inhibit sex drive too. Testosterone is what sparks a man's sex drive and if levels are low, likely to become less interested in having sex.

So how do you increase levels?

Changing your diet and boosting certain deficiencies may be the natural alternative that may work the best for men in the longer term.

Healthy oils are also good
Certain fats like virgin coconut oil and olive oil can help to increase testosterone levels. Coconut oil is mainly saturated and these fats are considered the best type for increased testosterone levels.

Zinc can restore your sex life
Vital nutrients are required and one important minerals by far is zinc. Taking zinc supplements can help increase serum testosterone levels.

Fatty fish for vitamin D
To keep testosterone pumping, sufficient levels of Vitamin D is required. Excess weight and hormonal imbalances can be a result of a deficiency. Fatty fish like tuna, mackerel and salmon, are a great sources of vitamin D.

Avoid:
1. Too much alcohol damaging effects of too much alcohol consumption as this can affect testosterone levels in the body.

2.Excessive amounts of refined carbohydrates.

3. Too much stress, as this can affect your sex life.

If low testosterone levels is the issue then pills like Viagra may not be the answer on its own. There are many pills, available such as Viagra and Cialis, but these simply mask over the symptoms, and do not resolve the underlying cause of the problem.

Milder erection concerns including softer erections and low libido can often be enhanced with the use of natural remedies.

Penis Health Matters: The Impact of Estrogen in Men

Most men know about testosterone, which is often called the "male hormone," largely because of the role it plays in penis health and because the word has become associated with a kind of aggressive masculinity. Many men have also heard of estrogen, often referred to as the "female hormone." In fact, both sexes carry both testosterone and estrogen, so the nicknames are a bit misleading. And because estrogen is more popularly associated with women, many males are not aware of the role that estrogen in men plays with respect to their health and wellbeing.

Estrogen

As mentioned, estrogen is a hormone, but what exactly is a hormone?

According to the Hormone Health Network, hormones are:

... the body's chemical messengers and are part of the endocrine system. Endocrine glands make hormones, which travel through the bloodstream to tissues and organs, and control most of our body's major systems. The endocrine system regulates our heart rate, metabolism - how the body gets energy from the foods we eat - appetite, mood, sexual function, reproduction, growth and development, sleep cycles, and more.

For women, estrogen is of crucial importance. It promotes the growth of breasts and pubic hair and starts and controls the menstrual cycle, among other functions.

In men

In women, estrogen is produced in the ovaries. Clearly, that's not the case in men. Instead, in men an enzyme called aromatase takes testosterone (which men produce in the testes) and converts some of it into estrogen.

Since men don't get pregnant or breastfeed, why do they need estrogen? Because, as with most things, it's important to have the right balance of hormones in the body. Essentially, men who have an appropriate mix of both estrogen and testosterone tend to have fewer problems in certain areas.

Too little estrogen is associated with weak bones and a tendency to fracture. It also is associated with heart problems. For example, in one study, men who had chronic heart failure and low estrogen levels were 317% more likely to die in the next few years. But ironically, too much estrogen is also linked with heart problems, including the risk of stroke. In addition, too much estrogen increases the risk of an enlarged prostate or prostate cancer. So striking a happy balance between too much and too little estrogen is important.

In terms of penis health, too much estrogen (and the resultant decrease in testosterone) can be linked to penis function concerns. The most common issues associated with increased estrogen in men are a decrease in sex drive and erectile dysfunction. In terms of the latter, this can be compounded because the high estrogen levels may bring about cardiac issues which affect blood flow to the penis. Higher estrogen levels also often bring about an increase in body fat, which can in turn interfere with normal sexual functioning.

Some scientists believe that high estrogen levels may also lead to a reduction in the size of the penis, although this is generally associated with very high levels consistent over an extended period of time.

Men concerned about potential estrogen problems should consult with a doctor about their concerns.

Estrogen levels are only one thing that can impact penis heath. Maintaining general penis health is crucial, as is use of a superior penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin). When choosing a crème, one that includes vitamin C is advised, as this is a key component of collagen, a tissue in the body that gives skin its tone and elasticity and is vital for penile erections. It also pays to find a crème that includes pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), which is a vital nutrient required for cell metabolism and the maintenance of healthy tissue.
