Hi All, Kindly suggest is it safe to have sex during first trimester or not? Also suggest what kind of precautions we should take for safe pregnancy?

Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicines and Surgery(BAMS), Post Graduation Diploma in Emergency Medicines And Services(PGDEMS), MD - Alternate Medicine
Ayurveda, Ghaziabad
Your developing baby is protected by the amniotic fluid in your uterus, as well as the strong muscles of the uterus itself. Sexual activity won't affect your baby...so it is completely safe to sex during pregnancy....

I happen to see small traces of blood in my stool even while cleaning too, had kind of burning and pain in anal area a week back, no nausea, proper appetite. Constipation issues from 2 days. Kind of feverish. What is the issue, reason and treatment for it.

PGDMLS, PGDHHM, LLB, PhD Surgery, MS - General Surgery
General Surgeon, Gurgaon
This could be a fissure or piles. Anal fissure improves with general measures but may require surgery. The general measures I would suggest are 1. Take lot of vegetables & fruits in your diet 2. Avoid chillies & spices 3. Take lot of fluids 4. Avoid constipation 5 periodically do anal exercises (alternately contracting & relaxing the buttocks, anal area & upper thighs) 6. Take sitz bath 3-4 times a day. This means sitting in a tub of warm water & doing anal exercises 7. Atleast once get it examined by a general surgeon. Whether it is piles or fissure or something else needs to be confirmed. If it is piles one needs to know its grade because treatment will depend on that. The surgeon will find it on examination.

5 Symptoms That Indicate Your Heart Is in Trouble!

5 Symptoms That Indicate Your Heart Is in Trouble!

Your heart gives you warning signs before the onset of a major problem. You may not even know that you are at risk of one or more heart diseases if you fail to notice these small signs that your heart sends out. Even a minor symptom, like chest pain, can indicate that your heart may be in trouble. While there could be many causal factors for a heart condition, here some symptoms, which are possible indications of a heart disease and should not be ignored in any case.

1. Chest pain or discomfort - This symptom is the most common one, which indicates that your heart is not healthy. It usually comes in the form of a pain, pressure or tightness in the chest and may happen due to a blocked artery. This may be an early warning sign of a heart attack and you should seek professional advice before it turns into a major problem.

2. Excessive sweating - If you often sweat without any valid reason, it might be a sign to be concerned for. The sweating experienced will feel more like the one that arises due to stress rather than common perspiration experienced due to any vigorous physical activity.

3. Difficulty in breathing - Shortness of breath is an indication that you are at high risk of getting a heart attack. The symptom includes having difficulty in breathing and feels similar to the panting experienced after a long run.

4. Nausea and frequent stomach problems - If you experience nausea, heartburn, indigestion or abdominal pain frequently, it may be the result of an unhealthy heart. Of course, these signs may be due to other diseases as well, but if you experience any of the other symptoms of heart problems too, it's highly probable that your heart is in trouble.

5. Exhaustion - If you fall into the high-risk zone of being a potential heart patient, you may feel exhausted after doing some simple chores, which didn't tire you earlier. Common examples may be climbing the stairs or carrying something from your doorstep inside the house to name a few.

Neck Pain & Stiffness - How To Get Rid Of It?

MBBS, MD - Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation

Neck Pain & Stiffness - How To Get Rid Of It?

Neck pain and stiffness can give you a harrowing time. From children to aged people, the condition is a common problem that can affect all and sundry. In addition to the pain and discomfort, the condition also restricts the head movement. The neck bones and muscles are important as they not only give support to the head but also ensures its free and unrestricted movement.

Stiff neck and neck pain can be an amalgamation of various factors such as
Our professional commitments often demand spending hours before the computer. The sedentary lifestyle is the main wrecker in chief, giving rise to many health complications, with neck pain and stiffness being one amongst them. Sitting in one position for long often results in muscle pull (tension) and strain. The muscle tension can also be an outcome of incorrect sleeping posture.

  • Neck injury and inflammation sustained during an exercise or due to an accident can also result in neck pain.
  • Neck injury followed by pain and stiffness can also be an outcome of Whiplash (a condition where a person suddenly jerks the head).
  • Stiffness and neck pain can also be triggered by medical conditions such as Meningitis, Rheumatoid Arthritis (of the neck), Heart attack, Fibromyalgia (muscular pain particularly in the shoulder and neck area), Cancer (of the spine), Spondylosis, and Spinal stenosis, to name a few.

Seek a medical assistance in case

  • The condition aggravates and persists for long.
  • The pain and stiffness are sudden and unexplained.
  • Pain that slowly moves down the arms and legs.
  • In addition to the neck pain and stiffness, a person complains of a headache, nausea, vomiting, fever, difficulty in eating food, a bowel disorder.
  • A lump (in the neck) accompanied by pain and stiffness needs immediate and thorough investigation.

Diagnosis and treatment
Neck pain and stiffness are often diagnosed by

  • Physical examination.
  • A lumbar puncture can also aid in the diagnosis.
  • Imaging tests such as X-rays, MRI, CT scans, Electromyography
  • Blood tests.

Depending on the severity, a doctor decides upon the course and mode of treatment

  1. The use of ice packs or heat pads (avoid very high temperature) on the affected area every 2-3 hours (for 15-20 minutes) can provide great relief.
  2. Gentle massaging can go a long way to relieve the pain and stiffness. It only helps to improve the blood circulation.
  3. Neck exercises and stretching play a pivotal role in strengthening the neck muscles, thereby reducing the pain and stiffness. However, in an endeavor to achieve maximum results, do not overdo yourself.
  4. Medicines such as Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID), Tylenol, Advil, corticosteroid injections, come in handy in case of severe pain and inflammation.
  5. Use of a neck collar provides support to the affected area.
  6. Surgery may be recommended (very rare) in the case of serious complications.
  7. Some patients also benefit from Acupuncture and Chiropractic (alternate medicines). Consult an Expert & get answers to your questions!

1. It could be a tension headache due to anxiety/stress, depression inadequate sleep, low bp/high bp, migraine, prolonged use of cell phone/computer, chronic anaemia, refractive error, chronic sinusitis, organic brain lesion 2. Avoid stress, physical and mental exertion, have adequate sound sleep for 7-8 hours daily in the night 3. Go for regular exercise 4. Practice yoga, meditation and deep breathing exercise to calm your mind, control your emotion and relieve stress 5. Check for refractive error, sinusitis hemoglobin, bp 6. Avoid prolonged use of cell phone/computer 7. Consult neurologist to rule out other causes of headache, if required take a ct scan of head to exclude any brain lesion 8. Steam inhalation carefully by steam inhaler twice a day for 2-3 days continuous cold may be because of many reasons like: 1. Any ENT problem like DNS, polyp, sinusitis 2. Low immunity 3. Feeling sad for your loss is okay but feeling continuously depressed is not healthy for you. Loss of someone you love is a trauma that you are suffering from. If you are not able to concentrate on other things then you should consider seeking help from a psychiatrist for counselling. You might need some help with cbt, a form of counseling that would certainly help you. Medicines can be given if necessary. Take care.

Post bypass surgery it is very essential to control diabetes with suitable medicine as per your ejection fraction of heart along with diet and exercise. Patients who had developed heart problems requiring bypass because of diabetes some times also have leg problems or kidney or eye problems requiring lnsulin along with oral drugs to maintain normal blood sugars and hba1c.
