Hi, Ms. Lybrate-user toothcaries affecting a tooth can be treated only at the clinic. But prevention can be done at home. Preventive measures 1. Daily twice brushing your teeth. 2. Using mouth wash (chlorhexidin) after brushing 3. Cleaning your mouth after every meal / sweets or anything.

I have a problem in gum so I want to ask to you that how should I get well good of my gums.
Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need deep cleaning along with surgical curettage meals. Use pepsodent tooth paste & gum paint for 2 to 3 weeks. Advance procedures can be done with laser. You may consult me in person. Advise investigation (OPG x-ray) with clinical examination for the treatment to check for bone loss & pockets.

If there is no tooth above the gum line, the tooth should be removed and a false tooth placed. You can go for an implant to be placed at the same time as removal of your tooth. The filling in your other tooth can be replaced. Get it done immediately before it breaks any further and requires removal too.

My wisdom teeth is paining, so what I have to do, is it necessary to extract my teeth, or it can be done later.

BDS
Dentist, Ahmedabad
1- wisdom tooth If the wisdom tooth has erupted fully and in a proper position then we can save it by dental cement filling. If the cavity is deep and near or into the pulp then we can save it by root canal treatment. Ideally we should save natural tooth structure if its fits in above criterias. If the wisdom teeth has erupted in a such way that it's disturbing other tooth structures and we don't have any option left for saving it then only you should go for removal. The wisdom tooth usually causes pain because of its uneven position distrubing adjacent teeth and some times swelling of the tissues around the tooth causing pericoronitis ( i.e inflamation of the surrounding soft tissues ) causing pain. Wisdom tooth which is usually considered as an extra tooth having no role in mastication (i.e chewing of food) On other hand removal of wisdom tooth have much advantages rather than any disadvantage.. Retaining wisdom tooth some times results in food lodgement within and between adjacent tooth ,results in caries ( decay ) of the adjacent tooth. So for improper erupted wisdom tooth, removal is the only and best available option to the date. Which in turn also helps in preserving other tooth structures. Jay Swaminarayan.

•If your cavity in the tooth is caused by decay, your dentist will remove the decayed area and replace it with a filling. •If the pulp inside your tooth is infected, you may need root canal treatment. This procedure involves removing the infected pulp and then inserting a special type of filling to seal the tooth and prevent re-infection.

Salt can also be used to treat cavities due to its antiseptic and antibacterial properties. It can reduce inflammation, ease pain, draw out any infection and prevent growth of bacteria in the mouth. Dissolve 1 teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water. Swish a mouthful of this solution around in your mouth for 1 minute, concentrating on the affected tooth. Follow this treatment 3 times a day until your symptoms subside. Brush your teeth after each meal with fingers.

Hello lybrate-user! You are 23 years old and according to you your upper lateral incisor is tilted. Well tilting or crowded teeth are a part of malocclusion (improper alignment of teeth) and extraction is not always the best line of management. Since you are young and we are looking at the upper front tooth which forms a major component of a persons appearence (smile) I would advise you to see a competent Orthodontist (braces specialist). He will take appropriate measures (xrays, impressions etc.) and help in advising you the correct line of treatment. May be the tooth can be brought out and aligned properly in the arch. Or if there is no space there could be space creation by extraction of a Premolar tooth and subsequently moving the adjacent teeth behind to make space for the lateral incisor. (All this is valid if the tooth you are mentioning is not a deciduous tooth. If it is a milk tooth then your permanent tooth might have been stuck inside the bone and there could be the possibility to bring that tooth out and align it. All in all these descisions can be only made after the orthodontist examines. So please do visit a good orthodontist and he will give you good options to your problem. Thanks, take care, Cheers.

What is the ayurvedic and naturopathic way for disinfection of the mouth instead of using chemical gargling?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Fellow of Academy of General Education (FAGE), BDS

The answer is little weird and difficult to do. It has been proved recently through various scientific experiments that doing mouthwash by coconut oil helps to reduce the number of bacteria present in your mouth.

I am 21 years old male, wearing braces for almost a year to fix reverse overjet of 1mm (i had my lower 2 bicuspids removed for the same). Recently my dentist applied a lower archwire 0.016" x 0.022" stainless steel. Is rectangular archwire better than the round archwire and how much more time can I expect to continue wearing braces?

During braces treatment you have to go through a sequence of archwire changes of which 0.016 x 0.022 stainless steel archwire is a part. Treatment is usually started with round niti archwires for alignment of your teeth which is followed by rectangular archwires for retraction and torque control. Hence both types of archwires are important. Treatment has to be continued till the primary objective of achieving proper overjet is completed.

Go for scaling and root planning procedure. It will remove plaque and calculus and will heal your inflammed gums to stop bleeding. Medicines will help but first the cause has to be treated. Pain may be due to decay so may go for filling or rct. Intraoral examination will reveal the clear picture. Visit your dentist.

Kindly get scaling and polishing done and use mouth wash twice daily for 15 days. Also notice that you are not constipated most of the times as this is also one of the reasons for bad breath. Brush your teeth twice daily using correct brushing technique.

To lessen the degree of pain or soreness in the mouth during the orthodontic treatment, you can gargle with 8 ounces of lukewarm water with one teaspoonful of salt dissolved in it. Swish it around your mouth and then spit it out. It will dull the pain and provide relief.
