Panic Attack Not a Heart Attack!

A panic attack is a sudden surge of overwhelming anxiety and fear. Your heart pounds and you can’t breathe. You may even feel like you’re dying or going crazy. Left untreated, panic attacks can lead to panic disorder and other problems. They may even cause you to withdraw from normal activities. But panic attacks can be cured and the sooner you seek help, the better. With treatment, you can reduce or eliminate the symptoms of panic and regain control of your life.

Signs and symptoms of a panic attack-

Panic attacks often strike when you’re away from home, but they can happen anywhere and at any time. You may have one while you’re in a store shopping, walking down the street, driving in your car, or sitting on the couch at home.

The signs and symptoms of a panic attack develop abruptly and usually reach their peak within 10 minutes. Most panic attacks end within 20 to 30 minutes, and they rarely last more than an hour.

A full-blown panic attack includes a combination of the following signs and symptoms:

 Shortness of breath or hyperventilation

 Heart palpitations or racing heart

 Chest pain or discomfort

 Trembling or shaking

 Choking feeling

Feeling unreal or detached from your surroundings

 Sweating

 Nausea or upset stomach

 Feeling dizzy, light-headed, or faint

 Numbness or tingling sensations

 Hot or cold flashes

Fear of dying, losing control, or going crazy

Thank you!

Hi, I am a 25 years old male. I am having mild chest pains; sometimes on left side, sometimes on right side. Usually the pains are while I'm laying down or sleeping. It's not so painful but it comes and goes, sometimes down the breast left side or right side. I did x ray and went to a doctor 2 weeks ago but he said my lungs and heart are fine. 3 weeks before I had sore throat and then cough for 2 weeks and then stomach pains, diarrhoea; my friend suggested it's from gastritis; so, I take medication, my stomach is fine now, and coughing is almost cured But still I'm feeling pains! Is there something I should be worried about? Do I need a urgent check up? Regards.

Dear lybrateuser, - Along with medication more important is to take dietary precaution, - avoid spicy, fried, sour & junk foods, also restrict intake of tea, coffee to 1-2 cups per day, also avoid citrus fruits, raw onion, garlic, chocolate & mint - do not skip meals, have meals on time, chew your food well, have 4-5 small meals including snacks rather than three large meals, do not lye down for at least 1-2 hrs after meals, have dinner 3-4 hrs before bedtime, raise pillow end by 4-6 inches while sleeping - have 7-8 glasses of water per day for proper digestion - do regular exercise like walking, jogging, yoga, deep breathing to reduce acidity & keep the body fit - if pain doesn't reduce then consult your doctor you may require a change of medication.

My father iz 55 years old. He smokes and drinks a lot and is suffering from high cholesterol.
Treatment for high cholesterol is lipid lowering drugs. But it is prudent to rather treat the cause than the effect. Which means if he avoids alcohol eats low fat diet and exercises regularly he might not need to take medicines.

Hye. Food planning will depend on the amount of proteins that you need for the day. To decide the proteins, other nutrients many parameters need to be considered. This requires personalised planning. You don't want to end up eating low amounts of protein too. Cornflakes is not low protein, neither is it low sodium or potassium as well. You might want to skip packaged foods.
